I literally started sobbing during this. I've never been able to do a barre chord because my finger bends, and it just doesn't hold the strings, but i did #2, and it worked, and i straight up started sobbing on my floor. THANK YOU 😭
Another one I would add, although it applies to right hand fingering in general, is to keep the guitar face more vertical. As a beginner it is natural to tip the lower edge of guitar out so that you can see the strings better, but this means your fingers have to curve more - if only about 10 degrees, it makes a lot of difference. I picked up this small tip recently and it is definitely producing cleaner chords, much less damping from fingers lying on strings.
Yeah I just realized this happened. Also my posture while playing the guitar makes it harder for me to produce clean barre chords sound. Thank u for the tip.
Love your channel. Even though I suffered a devastating hand and arm injury and can barely play I still watch your videos. Thanks you are helping a lot of guitarists.
Marty, you are amazing! You give very concise instructions, and how someone who does this so naturally, yet can break it down for a beginner, is a gift.
What a truly great and gifted teacher who obviously loves sharing knowledge. Marty, I hope you are blessed with all that you seek in life. Thank you for doing what you do.
#2 solved my biggest problem too, i had trouble with forming any barre chords. now i can finally hit the F chord and play my favorite song. thanks man, you're fr the best guitar youtuber
Additional tip I've found: use the elbow of your strumming hand to pin the guitar against your body and thereby leverage the guitar into your fretting hand, and you won't need to clamp so hard. This should lessen the fatigue. (Wish I'd known it sooner.)
#4. Play on taller frets. Much easier on medium jumbos than flat vintage style. Yea i know you cant change frets but if you have a couple guitars with different sized frets, go for the taller ones
thank you so much! i’ve been self learning guitar for a couple years now and have always just skipped bar chords .. and I’m finally wanting to move onto the harder stuff, so this helps!!
I gotta start paying marty, buy a dvd or something..martys given me so much free knowlege. That pulling ur elbow in lol..ive been playing for 12 yrs i dont remember anyone telling me that. Thanks again Marty.
