@@gundamzerostrike That's great dude! I remember struggling a lot with chord changes the first like 3 months. I only practiced like 15 minutes a day though. I think it's alright if you don't really search for tips and tricks. For me, some things just come naturally with time. Like a light bulb lights up above my head. After reading up a bit online, it seems playing guitar is full of those eureka moments.
I think it's important you try to learn the songs you want to through TH-cam tutorials. Even if you don't search for tips and tricks, most of the videos always give you one without it being the main focus and you'll easily pick it up because you're actually concentrating, trying to learn that song voluntarily. Most importantly though, do whatever you want, you'll get the hang of everything given enough time. Have fun playing!

For me I wanted to learn a lot of songs that had a B-chord or B-minor, as I also started learning violin and music theory I realized how versatile barre chords could be and the range of additional chords and variations that could be opened up even by knowing the simplest 4 major and minor chord shapes as barres- A, C, D and E. My main tip is, get your barring finger right up against the fret, that way you need minimum pressure and get maximum reach, you really don't have to press hard at all, in fact if you are against the fret it's counter productive. Once you get it there's so much stuff opens up, right away, I could play absolutely any key just using A-shape, E-shape, E-minor and A minor shapes, adding D/Dm and C decrease the amount of shifting but the Amaj/min and Emaj/min will usually be the go tos! They are just so easy to transition between and slide around!

I love your practical tips and good for you for learning barre chords! I am learning barre chords and here is the the most helpful tip that has helped me, which I learned literally last night when for the first time I had a "PHYSICAL" lesson with a good teacher. What I found was that the reason I sucked at barre chords was because of the position I was holding my guitar in. When he corrected how I held the guitar and where I held it in relation to my body, I could put my left hand in the right position for the first time, which until then I could never do. Gone was the grabby thumb and my thumb was now on the back of the neck for the FIRST TIME EVER! I would not have learned this and would have carried on as I was if I had not taken a physical lesson where the teacher could see what I was doing, spot my mistake (that I was completely oblivious to) and correct me. Obviously I now have to practice long and hard, but because I am now physically positioned correctly the mechanics will no longer be getting in my way. Peace and love to all guitar players!

You can also use your tumb to push down on the low e string. That way you only have to barre the high e and b string with your index finger. This makes chords low on the neck (where the tension is higher) easier to play.
But you can only do that with major chords with the base note on the e string. (With minor chords and 7th chords you'd have to barre the highest 3 strings with your index finger wich makes it not that mutch easier than just barre the whole chord)
Barre chords with the base note on the a string are often already easier to play :)

Barre chords seem dificult for beginners.
here is a tip for everyone that hasn't mastered them yet :
barre chords mostly use the index finger as base for the barre, think of your finger like a capo, it's there just for the chord to sound higher pitched, also a mistake i used to do as a beginner, was to play barre chords directly on the fret markers instead in the fret, that said, barre chords will stil be a pain because most people are not used to them, so a good practice for it is to play open chords (G, C, A), in their barre version, that helps a lot, by a week or two you should already have barre chords mastered

  • @dmaikibujin
    @dmaikibujin ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Notes:
Start with an A rather than an F - less tension
    Tune down - less tension
Use a capo - less tension
Don't suck again - less tension...
    Push the body back
Don't focus too much on proper form - what feels good - loosey goosey
    Have fun!
Switch to an electric - or ok...
Don't foucs too much on perfection - pros suck too
Remove your high E string - or no... or maybe just cut off your leg - yeah!
    Great lesson! 😁

After learning the basic chords and notes and such, barre chords were one of the first things I learned. The minors, normals, maj7, everything as far as they go. Mainly cause the music I like using those mostly. I really just learned to play some songs I like and since then, I’ve just figured out the rest.

I liked your part about singing man cause ive been feeling pretty meh at singing recently, good reminder to keep doing it.
Also 3:50 actually cracked me up, instead of jamming a new string on the guitar you were like "meh whatever i dont need it."

The song that made me want to learn barre chords was the acoustic 'my hero' rendition by dave grohl on the HSS so that was hilarious to see

Dude! Memory flowing! I got a boxer fracture this year in my fretting hand, so your pinkie reach looking fab. Also, I snapped the high e on my Gretsch Jim Dandy four years ago & it's during that stint I experimented most with barre chords. I liked C into C7 into jazzy barred upper Cs & trills with my pinkie fing. Or whatever. I'm on the hunt for a new acoustic now, but that's whatever too. Anyway, you keep it up. Make sure to get your steam wishlist packed with Rocksmith DLC btw. 🤴

I've now been playing for over two years and I still can't do open chords. I play barre chords in all kinds of jazz variations and like a solo every now and then. But f*****g open chords. They are horribly unrhythmic and unmutable and the chord functions are so hidden and every second song I can't even play because they don't fit open chords. Also my fingers don't go were they should.
Anyway, I can't really do them but I should.

I do suggest fingerplucked songs with barre chords. You'll learn to keep your finger in place and tight on every atring. Also, use the curvature of your finger. Place it flat on the board, roll it a bit to the side and position the other fingers, you'll feel it's more "natural"

Lol, exactly what you said right at the start. Once you've learned to play most of the normal, open chords and learned a load of songs so you don't bother trying to push yourself. I've only just managed to get the F major after thinking I'd NEVER be able to play barre chords. The best tip that I ever learned was making an E major shape with the 2nd, 3rd and 4th fingers, slide them up a fret each leaving the first fret and your 1st finger free to make your barre. It worked so quick for me.

Definitely. The learning books and such should learn you to play A and E major chords with 2, 3 and 4 fingers. It's really hard to get out of the habit of playing them with your index finger after taking all that time to learn it. So I think you're absolutely 100% spot on, learning them with your index finger free means you have a huge head start when moving on to barre chords 👍👍

So I'm just dedicating myself to learning bar chords. I have to practice every day in Januari (also makes me play guitar more as I haven't been playing a lot lately). Anyways I have to do a bar chord riff every day in Januari which hopefully will make this easier haha

do a vid on all the different forms of barre chords like shapes and stuff and explain about how if you move up two frets, the chord goes up one (like fret 1 barre chord is an F and up two frets gives you a G and then A and B and so on). I didn't figure this out till like a year into playing guitar and it's a life saver to know because it means you dont have to memorize positions and makes everything so intuitive

every two frets does not = a new note, look at 5th position barre chord on fret 2 then 3, it's B then C, no Cb

This is a good video, it made me laugh. I believe that everyone's success is different from others, true success takes a lot of experiments. If it works, it is not necessarily a wrong way, it only might be wrong to others. Good video, I liked it. Never thought about taking a string off. I have practiced this bar chord thing for like about close to an hour now, I got it. However, the pain on my left hand sabotage the sound, it makes me don't want press it when it hurts.
