I have seen some lessons about genitive case of masculine gender says. If it is not countable it should be у or ю. But in your lesson I realized that bank is countable but you used A , so i think there are plenty of exceptions. I always prefer reading and listening practices over grammar rules. But at least Ukrainian language is phonetic I can easily read a book, most of the time I can correctly guess the tonation of the word. You helped a lot Ira. Thank you so much. You are the perfect Ukrainian teacher on the web. Much love.

This was a wonderful explanation of what Genitive actually means. Can you do videos on all 7 cases. I see you have done dative and accusative. Did I miss the others? (instrumental/locative/vocative) (nominative is obvious). As a side note, I hope you are safe in this horrible time.

If for the masculine gender, the usage of is similar to Polish genitive case, than a/я will be for animals, human beings (professions/names etc.) and some of masc. objects.
-У/ю would be for some of the masc. objects as well so only the inanimate objects are problematic in terms of use.

In Czech, -u is the normal genitive ending for inanimated masculine nouns with hard consonant.
For example: hrad - hradu.
