Wow, this is the advanced level course. Very detailed and on-target technically. I'm doing my Craftsman YS4500 spindles today. I'll incorporate the thrust washer grease grind-outs in my installation. Thanks.
The devil is in the details for sure here Kar. If things aren't level or you can't get grease to the needle bearings, they'll fail pretty quickly. Good luck on the install! Cheers! Zip~
You're very welcome. I enjoy helping out and I'm never at a loss for videos to make as many of my subscribers ask for different "how-toos" Good luck with your upgrade!!
Really good idea to prolong the life & ease of the steering on all lawn tractors . I bet, on some, it would work on the steering column shaft in someway .
Hi Zippo I live in new jersey watched your Tutorials on Allis Chalmers Tractors great insight into what to look for and repairs great video's and very clear to see I have a 1974 Allis Chalmers that i just went over every part that's in your tutorials and they are in good shape thanks for your tutorials keep up the good job your doing. were can i get parts for this tractor if needed do you no a web site.
Hey Chunk! Good to hear from you again. Allis and Simplicity was sold outside the US. I'm not sure who to or if they kept the same badging, but I do know of a person in Austrailia and quite a few in Canada who have them.
+DetectorOCD lol...Thanks OCD, but The Government couldn't handle me as it's leader...I'd fire the lot of them and hire real world, hard working Blue Collar workers who earn a living. Then, maybe, the Nation could get back on track. Cheers!! Zip~
Hello, I am currently rebuilding one of the these front axles from a SImplicity 725, and I was wondering if I need to order the splindle washers with the keyway, or if a regular 3/4 flat washer would work? Thanks.
Wish you could do this sorta thing to newer garden tractors. Im going to totally ditch my stock steering on my mudding tractor. It'll be harder to steer but it'll get rid of allll that slop. I have a question, can you send me a Allis free of charge? lol. I'd really love one. Nothing like that in the UK
Nice that you remember me (: I've yet to ever see one, but hopefully if I do, I'm in the position to snap it up, I know I'd kick myself forever if I missed a chance.
Correct. Also, when I grease spindles, I always jack up the front of the tractors so the spindles drop in the king pin sleeves, blocking grease from spewing out the top and forcing it to travel down to the area where the grease is needed most. Cheers my Friend! Sean~
My order came in today but the needle thrust bearing didn't show. So I have #8 .060 and #10 .030. That is cool though . They said tomorrow. Hopefully a video in the making. My tolerances are a bit different than yours but it will be fun.
And the results are well worth it! I've been under the weather for a while and haven't gotten to the post office yet. Went to the doctors today for some blood work. I've got to get to the shop tomorrow, so I'll grab your goodies and a box and get things ready to go. Hopefully in time! Sean~
The thrust washers are killer strong metal, so it'll take time to grind the grease reliefs. Should give you something to do until the needle bearings arrive. Looking forward to seeing your videos on your installation on the Deere!
Both Deere's eventually The one is a little 180 17HP Kawasaki 1986 model snow plow purpose and the other is actually a great little tractor. Liquid cooled 2 cylinder Kawasaki opposed twin with hydro 1996 model , new this year (too me haha). I can go to a cab and heater with a snowblower (that is the plan).
I'm my own worst critic!! I was holding things out of shot and upside down and topsey turvey! Just shows.....I can laugh at my screw ups! Try to get the idea through my up side down explanations and if you're at all lost, please ask and I'll try to help out.
The whole steering system should be gone through. Often, drag can come from the steering gears, steering column and worn spindle bushings. This trick works well, but only if the rest of the steering components are healthy. Keep at it...it will get better. Cheers! Zip~
Man I am learning a lot from all your vids ..I am glad I found one of these big garden tractors
Aren't they awesome! Glad the videos are helping my Friend! Zip~
Just another "to-do" for the Landlord list. Both the needle bearings and the front axle fix. Thanks for the expert info.

You got it! They allow the grease to penetrate the needle bearings.
You rock man! I was looking for this info and BAM there you have it yet again. ZIPPO for president! :)

No keyway needed, but you do need to grind the reliefs so grease can get to the thrust bearings. Zip~

I have a 1962 Allis Chalmers B1, and my King pin Bushings are very worn. Do you have any information on where to find new bushings?
Nice that you remember me (: I've yet to ever see one, but hopefully if I do, I'm in the position to snap it up, I know I'd kick myself forever if I missed a chance.
So you don't need needle bearings on the top? There is no weight there.
Correct. Also, when I grease spindles, I always jack up the front of the tractors so the spindles drop in the king pin sleeves, blocking grease from spewing out the top and forcing it to travel down to the area where the grease is needed most. Cheers my Friend! Sean~

great video, as usual. have to admit though.....I have done this "improvement" and noticed no difference :-(

Can I have your email so I can email you a few of my questions?
