  • Details and tips for rebuilding an Allis Chalmers / Simplicity garden tractor transmission. This one is from a early B10. It's similar to other 1960s Allis/Simplicity transmissions such as Landlords. It's my first rebuild - so there are incorrect terms used in a few places.

Thank you for this video Jason. I've been looking into doing a restoration of my old B-10 and it's gonna need some seals replaced. I've never been inside the B-10 gearbox so this video will be very helpful and educational. It makes a BIG difference to be able to watch a video of the disassembly of yours before I begin work on mine. Top shelf work my friend. Best Chris B.

Honestly one of the best informative, concise videos I have ever seen and pertaining to something abnormal as an old tractor gearbox. Yes it gave me mostly all the information I needed to do the same as you did (gearshift stuck, seals leaking). Hey I stripped that darn paint first thing, Thought I had good snap ring pliers till that second one Whoa... Jason, SIR, I wish you were my teacher growing up. Unfortunately, I have a locking differential right now and have to take step "1" apart again and see where I messed up staggering the gears. This tractor was a mess when I got it but I completely took it apart; cleaned , painted and replaced all the bad stuff. Guess I will become a subscriber.

Thanks so much, I have a 61 Simplicity 725, and for me this is a preview of coming attractions. Love the down to earth basics technect.we are not all master mechnics, I have been a shade tree mechanic for many years so I appreciate all the tips! Great video!

When I do a gearbox like these, I add about 2oz. Lucus stabilizer just to fill the airspaces until it gets warm enough to lube every inch

Do you know the part numbers for the axle seals and the seal for the shaft that the pulley goes on?

I have been told that when replacing seals, it is wise to put them in your freezer for a day before installing. Then they slip right in.

Perhaps. It's a trick I've never tried. I'm guessing it shrinks the outer diameter slightly making the seal fit into the case opening easier.

Source for axles seals, www.jackssmallengines.com/ , part number 2154269SM (which is what I used in this video). OR on Amazon, look up National seal part number 473157 SSR. I believe the dimensions are 2.453 OD, 1.750 ID, 0.312 width.

Hi Jason. Great video and much needed. I would speculate your video will help a lot of people. I never came across one on transmission and axle seal replacement. Now I am confident I can split the case. Could you provide the brake seal part number and the power shaft seal number? I believe they would be the same. I already ordered the axle seal from Jacks.

Glad this has given you confidence! The oil seal for the brake and power input shaft are indeed the same. I purchased it from Amazon. Search for "Briggs and Stratton 1612093SM Seal".

Nice video. Where could someone get the service manual for this. Really could use it. Thanks!

It seems these manuals are more difficult to find online than I thought. I suggest searching through the forums at simpletractors.com
