Great interview. I'll share my experience in case it's helpful to anyone reading.
Tore my right ACL in March 2022 (Grade 3 full thickness tear). Met with a surgeon in Sydney who spent 5 minutes assessing the knee and looking at MRI - "Yep, you're cooked. If you've got the money I'll do the surgery next week". I had no private health cover and didn't want to wait 18 months for public, so opted to self fund surgery in Europe as it was a third of the price even after flights.
I began intensive prehab to strengthen the leg and three months later flew to Europe.
The overseas surgeon did his own tests (around 45 minutes worth) and told me the knee was as stable as the good one, so he wasn't going to operate after all as it wouldn't actually help with stability or flexion. I returned to sport three months later (6 months off in total). I continued rehab and strengthening as I assumed I was operating without a ligament.
Tore my other ACL two weeks ago and have begun conservative management. Dr did a follow up MRI on the old knee and it has fully recovered. Hoping for the same with the new injury.
TLDR: ACLs heal. Don't rush for the knife.

@@treeland5162 The first injury? Not really sure to be honest. I assumed I was operating without an ACL until the second MRI showed healing.
Took around 6 months to get full range of motion back and I was doing daily rehab to strengthen the supporting muscles.
Started light sport again (jiu jitsu) around the 6 month mark and got back to full intensity training shortly after, at which point it felt like nothing had ever happened.
I continued the daily rehab regime as a preventative measure. The assumption was that the knee would be functional provided I continued rehab (squats, lunges, etc).
The treatment I'm on now for the new injury involves wearing a brace for three months which is a bit intense but initial trial shows good results - the study should be published in a few months.
Will get another MRI at the three month mark to see if it has healed, at which point I do a few more months of rehab then hopefully back to sport with medical clearance.

Feel to reply back..... And let me know if I can do anything to heal it

@@avinashn8912 Some heal, depending on the location of the tear. Apparently if it's fully detatched at the femur your prospects of healing are low. If you're not into sports you can possibly do without surgery, but rehab is always required. In my case, I got in early (within two weeks of injury), which I'm told is good. They're still researching all of this so don't take what I'm saying as medical advice, just one experience.
I can give you guys an update in 6 weeks when I get another MRI on the new injury and let you know how the bracing worked.

I partially torn my ACL , based on MRI , the doctor says I need to take the surgery. I felt my knee stable , no pain , I can walk & run normally . Will wait for a year to take another MRI and decided wether to take surgery or not, for now I just do the rehab and careful not to reinjured my knee.

Hi, I’m sorry how long did it take for the pain and all to stop? And if you don’t mind can you share your rehab process and timeline? I’m also going through an ACL (and PCL :/) partial tear and I don’t want to go for surgery.

Thank you for this explanation. There is very little information on non-surgical treatment out there. I am currently recovering of my second ACL tear. First tear was reconstructed. But now we try the non-surgical way to get back to crossfit. I did crossfit before besides playing footbal. Unfortunetly I decided to quit playing footbal after getting advise from my orthopedic surgeon. It is now 4 months after the injury and I am getting stronger every week. I guess my leg strength is at 60% now from what is was before the injury.

@@kieranrichardson8454 I want to say pretty good compared to most. It’s more I’ve lost a lot of confidence in it and am worried on what was hurt. I got kicked pretty hard on a partially bent knee during a martial arts class and it really shook me. I had a swollen knee for like 6 months I went really strict on the ice recently and it’s gone. I have a weird feeling going down the middle of the knee but usually not too painful. I need to get back on the strict rehab because I think my quad turned off for awhile. I’m at month 7.5 and an mri in a week
