No one can tell for sure the number of American expatriates. The United States does not keep track of its citizens who choose to emigrate. The Department of State estimates that between 3 and 9 million Americans live somewhere in the world, the United Nations places that number at a little over 3 million. We met with two American expatriates who, at the time of the interview in November 2021, called Durrës, Albania home. Vyckie Garrison of Norfolk, Nebraska and Sam Lopez of Seattle, Washington share their experience.
    - Why did they leave the United States?
    - Why did they choose Albania?
    - What is the cost of living in Albania?
    - How is the health service?
    - Do you need a car in Albania or Europe?
Watch this episode of America with an Accent, hosted by Enkela Vehbiu and produced in the diMTV studio of the University “Aleksandër Moisiu,” Durrës, Albania. You can watch America with an Accent, every Monday, at 6pm, on KPAO-TV (Channel Cox22/1-22) in Omaha, Nebraska, or worldwide at newamericansmedia.com or on this channel.

I am so happy to have found your interview! Enkela and team! A great effort and it was very helpful. So many TH-camrs want to show only the best side of life and I felt this was very objective and fair. On a separate note, I am one of many newly retired Americans seeking a new country outside the USA, to bring my resources and skills and start a new business in a land that paves the way for foreign tech entrepreneurs instead of building roadblocks and imposing fees that in the end, tend to make a country seem less inviting and less competitive. After extensive research, Albania is on my very short list of countries where I am considering investing the next chapter of life. Thank you for the information you presented here.

Thank you for the video. I 'Like'd it, subscribed and hit the 🔔 I've been retired from Lis Angeles for over 10 years, a world traveler (over 50 countries) and a volunteer worker.
Recently I saw a posting of a Canadian TH-camr saying, "Bad bews to Americans; now you can only stay in Albania for 90 days" as most others... Is it true? I am planning to travel to Albania and it does matter.

At moment, to live in Japan is good. Because of depopulation in small towin, there are very good offers some times free of charge an old house with land if you are not in hurry. If you prefer to
go to Albania, it is recommended to chose not in Durres but Greece side. Sea water and land view are much better and clearn.

Why do you call yourself expats, the term is immigrants. There is nothing wrong with that term, use it.

Expats are basically just immigrants, just with more money and they usually only mix with other people who are from where they are.

For the sake of irony, I will assume they are illegal immigrants in Albania.

This is my honest gut feeling: If you decided to reply with your negative assumption plus a blunt accusation, you ought to support your reasonable doubts why... That is a minimum etiquette in social media, I believe. Otherwise, I would classify it as junk or trash, to say the least.

@@Flat_Earth_Addy Because Albanians are by large numbers illegal immigrants in pretty much every European country. And even if they eventually became legal immigrants they started out as illegal immigrants crossing borders illegally.
That’s the irony, in case you didn’t get it. (Of course we all know that you actually knew exactly what I mean, but you just got offended by the truth).
