Dani thanks for reacting to this song. Please watch the official Music Video even if you can't react to it. Her emotions on it were real. She was going through a Divorce and the Director wanted to reshoot because of the Raw emotion. The Guitarist stepped in and said the real emotion should be shown and Jennifer Nettles agreed.
You gave the 1st reaction I have seen that understood this song. When the relationship starts to crumble... (it can happen for a lot of reasons) Unrequited love... that is all you need to experience to relate to this song, not literally every lyric and there never ends up being a reason to stay. Without that love returned heartbreak is the only road...
This song is written from the perspective of the other woman. She wrote it after realizing that there were plenty of songs about cheating, but none coming from that direction. You should watch the video (even if you can't react to it). She was going through a divorce at the time she recorded the video - not because this was her real life situation - but her real life emotions spill into that video and are super powerful. She's a brilliant singer and performer with one of those distinctive voices that doesn't sound like anyone else's. I kind of wonder if she was lip syncing here, though ... ? She does a good job of it if she is, but I wonder ... 🤔
Nobody ever point out one of the first lines.. "It's just another call from home, and you'll get it and be gone, and I'll be cryin'". I know it's all down to interpretation. But I hear it a, he's had the call from his wife. So they have had a "quickie". He got what he wanted and left and now she's crying. If you think of it from that direction, it hits a little harder. Yes I know she's "the other woman" but shes in love at this stage and can't help herself being in love, which is why she gives herself up so easily to him.
She's an amazing vocalist and the emotion put into the official video, is real due to her personal life at that time. She started crying during the recording and they kept the footage in the video. It's heartbreaking. Then the turn of phrase on the last verse and chorus is genius.
Part of the choice to sing it from the other woman's perspective given she was cheated on was the realization the cheater isn't just using and hurting one person a lot of the time. Sometimes the cheater is lying to both of them. Shows quite a lot character on Jennifer's part to understand that and empathize given what she's gone though as the wife.
Jennifer Nettles is on🔥she can capture audiences From far and wide and they will feel every word she sings 🎶🎙🎶 music to my ears🎧🇨🇦🇨🇦 GREAT song💕 Well written📀🤗BEAUTIFUL🤗📀one of this songs you must hear it all💕💕🇨🇦to get it🤔
I really hate that this is the first song reactors do. It gives the wrong first impression of Jennifer Nettles, try Down in Mississippi and up to no good to get a real feel for what she is all about which is fun and happy.
Yes hello it's me again hey there yeah you're right about the singer well I'm late getting to your but I got to you two thumbs up by Carl Supertramp Garnett it bloody well right hide in your shell logical by Supertramp Carl
Love her voice. But this is really like sympathy for the devil. She is cheating with a man who is anothers. She knows it, so she is as guilty as he is. The victim is the other woman.
Beautiful lady Beautiful song.

This woman's emotion makes anyone listening feel what she's going through. Learning to leave, sometimes is the best way to heal!

Hey Dani, take a look at the offical video, so much emotion.
She lived it but she was not the other woman
Make sure you DO see the real video because it is far more powerful.
Excellent review. This is a great gut wrenching song.
A soulful song, thank you Dani 👍🎧

At least watch original for yourself of what a nice basic beautiful video can be when kept simple
