I Wish my greenhouses were bigger, you can't do things like this in a 14' x 32', i would have to split the tank into two 6 foot wide tanks 25-32 foot long. I Got a much needed shot of encouragement from your video. I'll probably go broke but i'm gonna try it. I Do have 3- 950 gallon aquaculture tanks to play with also. All i need is a simplified design.
You've been so generous in answering all these questions all these years. Thanks for your patience. The floats, they are polysterene ? If so are they they regular ones from the hardware store? Thanks again.
Amazing! Please do you mind if I ask your lab journal for this project ? I would like to build the similar here at my home place in Tchad where we have a serious problem with water. Because of desert. Thanks in advance.
I don't get it. Where is the water exactly? No visual of that. You go from liner to floating plates? There is some steps missing. Am i that simple or is the core idea missing?
I’m doing something similar in my basement. I have 4 50 ga reservoirs. One for each variety or do you think I could mix several in one and harvest several varieties at once vs more of a single cultivar per reservoir.
What is the purpose of the blue vertical pipes at 6:26 ? Also - the fluid re-enters the tank at the top. Does it also flow down to the sump from near the top? Otherwise - what stops it from all draining into the sump? Is there some sort of valve anywhere that does this?
Hello! how are you? Thanks for sharing these videos, they are great! How does ph behave with the reduction of water in your system? Thank you very much!
Thank you very much for the answer! when the water level drops, you put in water and adjust the ec? or do you put prepared solution? sorry for so many questions and thank you again.
we do have overflow outlets on the sump tanks so the water level remains the same. The only problem is that the nutrients are diluted after the rain which is not a big issue and can be resolved easily.
At the 3:00 mark where you hold a net pot, I see you have a white holder that is probably used to raise the pot and improve root air flow - what is it called? Where do you get it in RSA?
@@VisionCarrierDreamCatcher Sorry about that. It looks like it may be a commercial product made for this purpose. Maybe use a jar lid to prototype your own and have a factory make them for you?
How do you harvest the greens at the center of the system? It’s unreachable. Do you remove the whole styrofoam? That’s a lot of trouble and inefficient. So, how do you gather the greens from the center?
we found better and faster growth plus our crop size was much larger comparatively using the RDWC system but this is on a personal level some people have found great results using the vertical system.
Yes, but not completely underwater or the plant will drown, There has to be a small gap between water and top of the net pot which is not underwater, this usually is the case because the polystyrene which is 200mm or more allows this breathing area for the plants roots if not then your water level should be lowed to allow for this gap.
not quite understanding the build. I see you mention floats...is the styrofoam holding up the lettuce in the netpot on top of the water on the table? Is the table built at a slight slant? also is the table ever drained of water or just recirculate when the plants are growing? I have space in my yard I could do this but not sure I understand fully
Regarding the floats, Yes the Styrofoam holds up the net pots with the lettuce they basically float on the water. Is the table built at a slight slant? No it is as level as possible (otherwise one side would have alot of water and the other little to no water) Is the table ever drained of water? occasionally we do drain the water but in reality the water is always being replenished by the plants consuming most of it or the sun evaporating it we are on a daily basis filling/topping up the system. And we do recirculate the water also.
Hi! Thanks for sharing your videos! Could you please explain what do you mean when you say the system should be drained up every 14 days?! Should the grow bad became empty of water, and filled up again with fresh water? Should the recirculating pump be working all day long 24/24 nonstop from the beginning (planting) until harvesting? Thanks in advance for your reply!
As was mentioned in the video its recommended that you change the water but not entirely necessary if its above 1000L and your plants are doing well, in that case you can change it every month or two or when you feel necessary depending on your system. by change I mean drain and fill new water. No the pump can be turned on at leased 4-6 times a day for about 5+ minutes
Beautiful build and excellent looking plants. How deep are your beds? Looks kind of like what I call shallow-water culture. Honestly, though, all the lines are blurred these days. Nice looking setup!
Thanks, The beds are not very deep, about 3 to 4 inches (it is in fact a shallow water system) . But people are accustom to the name deep water culture (DWC) so not to confuse I left it as RDWC , the only difference is the depth.
One quick question. How do you manage the EC level of your solution when you have various growing stages. I know that plants requires various solutions strength according to their growing stages.
The beds are 60 sq meters and hold aprox. 3000L of water and they also have there own sump tanks below which are automatically topped up when the water is depleted.
Have you ever thought about introducing oxygen into your water. I've heard of people buying oxygen tanks or buying oxygen concentrators and hooking them up to their air tubes.
the weight would be enormous ,, i dont know where you are but you must have cheap plywood,, here its a fortune,, better to build on the ground with just 12 inch sides and the liner,, this is nice but very time consuming to build and expensive.
Amazing it served as a source of inspiration for my system
Liked that system. The simple is always the best.
Awsome. From a small city here in Brazil called Ibiporã

Hi there mate, thanks for the awesome video info. Can I get info on where to get the floating raft? Thanks again, Ben
Awesome setup

Yes they are regular Styrofoam, But if you can get a high density Styrofoam it would last longer.

Very interesting.
How often do you have to remove the old water and replace with fresh water in the RDWC compared to the DWC system?

Is it possible to get whole setup dimensions and how to connect those pvc?

What ppm do u run at ? Mostly a nitrogen fertilizer or more a balanced 20-20-20 or better yet what fertilizer do you use. Thanks!

How do you get to the middle of the bench when it's time to cut your plants? Just walk on the white foam?
Predivno👍
Do you drain the water on one end and pour water in on the other end to keep the water flowing? and how often do you completely change the water?
Can you please explain the depth water regulators work, and how to build it. In Venezuela, South America.

Do you need aeratorion pumps or you're using the sump tanks for aeratorion?
Hi, would rain water change the chemical levels in the water beds? Or do you keep checking after a rainy season?

Thank you
we will work on a simplified guide soon , thanks
explain how you built the drainage system waterproof please?
How does one harvest the produce from such large grow tables?
I really love your videos, but one question how did you design your drainage? Is it possible that the system may overflow?
You have to use siphon drainage system. It's automatically drain when it's come to overflow. Siphon drainage system doesn't required any electricity.
What is the spacing of holes? From center ot center.

Approximately 10 meters by 6 meters

may i ask for the size of the raft and the spacing for the holes? thank you

hello! With this RDWC, Do you have any problem with pathogens? How do you fix or prevent?
This is really great . Thank you for sharing. How often do you clean the whole system?
After every harvest.

we use a basic hydroponic nutrient solution which you can find at a hydroponic store

with a long pole ,like a pool net without the net

One question. Does the roots always submerge in water?
