- Australian DOP Kate Cornish tests out the Canon Cinema EOS C70 during a live performance video shoot of musician Kim Churchill. The EOS C70 packs in some seriously impressive specs in the smallest Cinema EOS body yet from Canon:

I’m buying this I thought I was going to buy the r5 but looking at this camera I love the dynamic range that the r5 don’t have and also the 4k 120 with audio that’s a good thing with ND filters

As a long term C100/c300 shooter the only thing I miss is a relocateable handgrip and I need to look into the weight compared to the C100. Ergonomics-wise I am not 100% convinced but specs-wise this is a beast. Congrats Canon

s b how is it terrible and still in 2010? This camera absolutely changes the game and it is a breed of its own. No other company created this type of camera yet. I would personally consider selling my A7III and BMPCC4K and get only this as it can do anything in any situation. And this is coming from a guy who hates changing cameras but this one is just so unreal. No need to use ND filter anymore, no more step up rings. No more adding lots of stuff to the bmpcc4k to make it work, just take it out of the camera bag and tell your story rightaway. Absolute genius move from canon
The footage does the camera no justice. If you wanted to exhibit the capabilities of this camera (which I assume you'd want to do in a promotional video), don't use "artsy" footage that could be shot with any mirrorless camera. Don't get me wrong, there's time and place for that kind of footage. Just not in the promotional video of a professional video/"cinema" camera. This video fails to display two main strengths of this camera: dynamic range and Canon colors. Other videos on TH-cam (made by TH-cam reviewers or Canon Europe) do a much better job at promoting this camera than Canon Australia's marketing department. I'd be fired if I did an oopsie like this. Just my 2c.

They did colour graded it with some ugly LUTs, giving it washed out semi cross-processed Instagram look. Seen to bazillion times. Hate it personally. Would prefer if they could give it more natural look but that's just me. Footage wise, when i first time seen it i thought that it was done by some amatuer trying to get into video and not whole bunch of people including director. There is loads of out of focus footage and all they did was to get too close to band faces and hovered around. Kinda amateurish approach.

Kate Cornish does some amazing work ! . The C70 though was announced way too late. Ive already jumped ship to Sony now after spending my whole career with canon, and still not disappointed having seen this. The camera is looking to be $8500+ with no raw internal or external recording capabilities while the a7siii offers this with the atomos. On top of this, they decided with such a body theyd use SD cards as opposed to the great CF cards, the IBIS is toilet, so freehand clearly as shown is rough as guts. Also funny how there is no mention of low light capabilities. Also, what was going on with the edit of this piece? the grade was everywhere.

We actually chose not to use the IBIS on this video, just used lens IS because we wanted to keep the organic handheld look instead of the smooth stabilised one.
@@TallstoryfilmsAus What you call "organic handheld look" is justified only in war when bullets are flying. Otherwise it only makes the audience sea sick.
On paper, Sony specs always look better. But Canon C cameras have a better image to me. The skin tones look healthy and vibrant (instead of ashy and grey) and the color science is awesome. They usually have better ergonomics and practical applications, too. The 4 tracks of audio on the C70 is incredible.
What lenses were used and possibly when in the video?

J Chritina an US Vlogger analysed the above video and was critical of the camera's inability to hold focus on Kim's face during your shoot hunting in and out. Having watched his vlog I have to agree. Is this an issue with the camera's AF system?
Hi Paul, we actually chose to use manual focus on all the shots except for the gimbal one at the start, just felt it would suit the vibe of the music and handheld coverage. The AF on these cameras is the best we've ever used, CVP have done a pretty exhaustive autofocus test which might be of interest:

We used a mix of RF 15-35 2.8, RF 35 1.8 and RF 70-200
To me the C70 footage of the musicians does not look as nice as the filming of Kate talking on camera, incl. her presentation. Same camera?
Hi Magee we filmed the behind the scenes on a mix of C300MKIII and C70, the image from both cameras looks pretty much identical. The grade for the behind the scenes is less stylised than the performance video but you can definitely make C70 footage look more like that if you prefer it.
This makes me want to sell my c100 mark ii and buy this!

Hmm debating if I should sell my r6 for this.
Yes. I am so glad I didn't buy the R5 or R6. So many of my friends are beating themselves for spending so much cash on the R5 and R6 bodies. Not that it was a mistake, its just we had no idea this was around the corner. This is what I wanted the R5 and R6 to act like. I can stop sending on photo cameras and keep the RP and R and now focus on getting a C70. Would you agree? Are you thinking of getting it? I hope you do.

@Maciej Jan Długosz I don't know about that. My point is that this camera is more towards run and gun and also gimbal work. An EVF would look stupid on this camera:)

Say what you guys want, the director, and cinematographer did an amazing job. I had tears listening to this song and over and over, and part of that was the visuals created by the team who filmed this. Granted it could have been any camera, but it was still great. Very shallow dof.
