I actually cried when I first heard Monster. It was truly a remarkable song about Odysseus's journey and how it changed him. 😢
Ah, so many things that would help, especially with Ismarus where it introduces characters and how they relate back to Odysseus.
Edit: Can definitely hear the Hamilton vibes :)
I feel like Full Speed ahead does what Ismarus but with less exposition. And in an already 40 song long musical, you can't really afford to have too much fluff.
@@aliendilo3105 Understandable about the 'fluff'. But knowing that Ismarus was a song that was written makes me enjoy EPIC even more, because I did wonder where that part of the Odyssey had gone in the musical.
I'm just a little bit sad that unless you know more about the Odyssey externally, you don't quickly know who the characters (shipmates/crew/soldiers) are in relation to Odysseus.
@@aliendilo3105to add on to this, when EPIC does eventually get adapted into a real life stage musical, a lot of things are going to be introduced and explained through spoken word in between songs. So trying to cram a whole lot of info into 1 song would seem kinda redundant

Objectively, Open Arms does better at conveying what it’s supposed to convey and does better in all aspects compared to your light, although Your Light would’ve helped polities personal character and relationship with Odysseus
@@GrayDayMystic yeah, Open Arms, does better at helping the narrative, but it came at the cost of having a less fleshed out Polites. I’m definitely hoping for a cut song saga though so we can hear it in Steven’s voice

I am very sad that royal wisdom burst and olive tree got cut. Royal wisdom burst just has awesome vibes and I almost cried when i first heard olive tree. :(

@arandompersonontheinternet8690 I just checked the older songlist and I Can't Help But Wonder replaced Royal Wisdom Burst. And I'm pretty sure Mr jalapeño said that royal wisdom burst didn't like convey the story the same way or something

I wonder which saga would have included “Suffering” (which I think was a duet between Odysseus and Penelope, in which Odysseus sang something about how he felt like he was drowning while Penelope sang about how she was willing to take away her husband’s suffering if she could)?
I kind of imagine it as an expansion on the dream he has during Keep Your Friends Close

I think it was cut because there's no place to put it in the musical. I'm sad it got cut too though.
Also I think is ironic how the "Maybe you can learn to forgive" in "In Vain" has basically the same melody as "Ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves"

Does anyone know who Olive Tree is about? It’s probably Odysseus singing it, but Jorge sings all the characters that don’t have vas yet, either that or it’s Penelope who is singing, but “we were just kids” so I don’t think it’d be her either… Maybe if Odysseus is singing it it’s about him and Polites? “I won’t forget, he’d invite me like this” so the other person is obviously a guy. Does anyone have an idea of who it is?
I believe that it’s being sung by Penelope and when she says he it’s referring to Odysseus. I’m pretty sure certain lines were meant to be Odysseus as well. Could be wrong though. I’m just sort of going off the fact that Jorge said it was intended to be a duet between Ody and Penelope

0:00 - Ismarus: I love the Hamilton vibes but I'm glad he went a more unique route. But I'll admit, I kinda love the idea of Athena being the narrator. Also-- HOLD UP THE "ALL I HEAR ARE SCREMS" PART IS FROM ISMARUS??? I had NO idea, but this makes me excited for other bits of cut songs making it into the musical (Maybe Telemachus'? please?)
3:29 - Your Light: Still one of my favorites; it would've made Polites' death so much more painful... I hope Polites gets some mention in the later sagas.

I was listening to Just a Man and this both ruined it for me and made me laugh out loud

10:38 - Unnamed Telemachus song: ...no words. i'll never understand why this was cut. the reaction for the last one was a joke as anyone could see, but this... this just kind of hurts.

11:26 - Unnamed Odysseus song: I love the "There are other ways" callback; Odysseus is using his experience with Circe as inspiration to deceive Calypso in the same way that almost worked on him (Kind of like how he used the Cyclops against the Chimera in Puppeteer)-- difference is, Calypso is a lot more desperate than Odysseus was. Its a bit harsh, but my man has been stuck there for 7 years so I'll forgive him.
12:20 - Love Me Too: Dang. Gotta feel a little bad for Calypso here, but then again she ignored the fact that he's a married man and tried to use magic to seduce him, so... kind of deserved it?
13:13 - Unnamed Odysseus song: This song SLAPS. I love the music in this, the weird disco reversed piano/synth thing is so cool. Wish it wasn't removed, but I understand why it was.
13:31 - In Vain: I assume this is Poseidon? Idk this clip is too short to care about.

13:38 - Pick Me: This feels like an alternate dimension EPIC. But I love the Odysseus-Menelaus dynamic, that could've been a cool character that starts out friends with Odysseus and then eventually turns against him from their differences. Menelaus lets his heart take control, and Odysseus lets his mind take control. It'd be an interesting story arc for the both of them.
14:07 - Royal Wisdom Burst: It's a big EPIC family reunion, and everyone's invited! (No but in all seriousness this song is sick. Telemachus saving his dad is an awesome concept; It'd be cool to see Odysseus get overwhelmed by a planned attack by the suitors, and then Telemachus steps in and throws a wrench in their plans. Since Telemachus was always ignored and belittled by Antinous, it would make sense that they never even considered seeing him as a threat, which would only make this even more awesome when he exceeds their expectations.)
14:53 - Olive Tree: I love the bit of background/lore this uncovers, which gives a deeper connection to Odysseus and Penelope's dynamic. But I felt this was a little underwhelming for a reunion after 20+ years, so I'm kind of glad it was cut.

The video I linked in the description which I used for Ismarus I’m guessing was taken from a demo after Perimedes’ verse was cut and it didn’t really fit anywhere so I decided not to add it
