    Dude, my hat is off to you. I watched your "day working at subway" video and it looked like a lot of hard and tedious work. You deserved a lot more money for that. My last job was a trucking job. It was extremely easy and I made $27 an hour. I wouldn't want to deal with what you had to deal with on a daily basis. People that work those types of jobs deserve a lot more. Dealing with the public is one of the worst situations in my opinion. I recommend you go into driving a truck. It's solitary and isn't hard work once you learn the basics. Good luck to you.

    I've worked Subway and other retail and food service gigs, so when you say you were there for 5 years, that's the equivalent of 15 in any other job, no joke. 5 years working in fast food is monumental. You were clearly such a good employee that went in with a good attitude even when you didn't want to be there. They were lucky to have you and I'm glad you stood up for yourself and chose a better path. If they wanted to keep you, they should have treated you like it.

      @Deloria 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@alextaylor1220 Damn! When I was 13 I started at Taco Bell and worked there until I was about 15/16. I credit the reason being how amazingly supportive and compassionate the management was. But damn, we saw it all. Because of that job I became very disillusioned and jaded at a very young age lol.
      However, I still haven't experienced such an amazing manager or management team since then, despite drastically pivoting to more white collar careers.
      Management truly is the backbone of every single job. Shit management = unsatisfied employees, extremely high turnover rates and toxic work environments- and that goes from Taco Bell to construction to accounting to computer engineering to any career field. It doesn't matter the job, it's about management.
      That Subway won't keep any decent employees because they show in their actions that they don't value them as people. It's really that simple, it's not rocket surgery lol

    Sorry to hear...I used to work at Arby's...and while I didn't get paid a lot, there were some things that we NEVER did. First of all, we NEVER, ever, ever changed the date dots. If we didn't sell a product before the date dot expired, then it was tossed. Second, when the refrigeration unit was broken, we brought in a special refrigerated truck so the cold chain was never broken. Third, management wasn't always perfect, but we got along and they accommodated my schedule while I was in college. Equipment breaks? It was replaced by the company. Day's off? No problem. Sometimes I would walk across the street to the Subway and talk to one of my high school friends there. He made more than I did at Arby's, but it wasn't worth all of the shit that he had to deal with. Glad you got a new job. That Cloud standee looks sweet. Are there Tifa and Aerith ones?

    As a former subway employee of 2 years I agree that the owners really make or break the store. My manager would work 6:30am-9pm somedays because my owner didn’t want to hire anymore people. I was so happy to leave subway (even though my co workers were awesome) because i didn’t have to deal with the rude customers, horrible hours, and shifts spent working by myself in the store anymore. You really don’t get paid enough at for the crap you have to deal with at subway

    Probably for the best, I had no choice but to tough it out when I worked at KFC, it really took a tole on me. I had to deal with lousy management for the longest time and toxic coworkers that threw me under the bus. I put up with this for 5 years. It was an epic waste of time, I think a lot of parents need to realize that your just doing your children a disservice by not helping them get into school and instead just kicking them out of the house prematurely and just work crappy jobs with no opportunity, it's a waste of time and wears at the soul. And ultimately you're not learning anything. Also the fact that most of those jobs especially fast food don't pay enough, they barely pay enough to get by, most people have to work 2 jobs, and so it doesn't even matter.

    Your original subway video was in my recommended list for a long long time, so I finally watched tonight. Your enthusiasm and work ethic, regardless of the fact that you didn't want to be there, was inspiring to say the least. You had a job to do, and you showed up and did your very best & even made it seem fun in the vlog. It's a sad shame that they treated you the way they did. Glad to hear that you've gotten out of there, as they didn't deserve a diligent & hard working employee such as yourself. Also, it's great to hear you talking about Freddi Fish and Pajama Sam. I used to play those games for hours with my brother in the 90's.. such good nostalgia & memories. Take care, brother!

    I know exactly how you feel although I didn’t go through 5 years of it. I left when I felt I had an escape. It was so toxic I felt like my life was consumed by subway. I never had a break, mentally and physically. We never took breaks and if you did you were looked down upon like some disgrace. He would make us find something to do when in actuality everything was done ahead of time. Things like get on a latter in the open store and dust the ceiling, I wish I was joking. Much like your situation my owner was so cheap and the manager was actually taking my money. I didn’t notice until I got my first paystub. I was making $1.25 less than minimum wage and the money was probably going right into my managers pocket. The owner “cleared up the problem” by paying me the money he owed me, and the manager still got away with it. Thank god I’m out of that hell hole.

    This video really hit home. I recently quit my job a week ago working in a small restaurant business ( with chefs, bussers, and FOH all of that) and everything you mentioned is by far all true not only for fast food joints. I only worked with about 5-6 people and we all were paid below minimum wage and treated poorly, some of us have been there for 3+ years and they wouldn't budge to give us an extra dollar raise, by state law it should be 11$ an hour and we were getting paid 8-9$. it was pretty ridiculous, no care about time management whatsoever or paid-leaves or time off, forget asking for a vacation. It's been mentally challenging trying to find a new job these few days especially with my living situation and trying to find a place to move, COVID has been 100% making it worse, but it all comes down to cash, so hopefully, I can find an establishment that I'm fully committed to and has an equal appreciation with work and employee needs and care. Well, that's enough of my TedTalk for one day.

    The ethics (or lack thereof) of a lot of business people would make your head spin. My wife (RIP) worked for 20 years at a family owned auto dealership (Buick, Chevy and Saturn and later other brands), and they inherited it from their dad. She was so dedicated she even did paperwork from her hospital room a few times when she had pneamonia. One of the owner's sons took the helm as general manager. He quickly dumped my wife as the office manager and put a 20 something young lady buddy of his as the office manager. After 20 years of dedicated service, they gave her a whopping $500 severance check. :) These people are worth tens of millions of dollars. They now own like 10 dealerships. Treating people like s--t isn't really detrimental to business. Poor ethics = higher profits. Sadly I have to hear their obnoxious ads when I listen to local radio, so I switched to Apple Music on my iPhone for my music. I have heard horror stories about how horrible these people treat customers and employees. I have many friends who almost bought cars from them who ended up going elsewhere over shady practices.

    I own a franchise and when we do our books we literally don’t have much room to give people raises. The turnover rate is so high in fast food that we really don’t expect people to be there longer than a year or 2. The return we get really doesn’t allow us to be like whataburger and hire people at $15/hr. I wish we had those kind of profits. I could show you the books and you’d be surprised what we take home in a year

    • @ianh1984

      I'd believe that. In one of his videos he said after the "lunch rush" that they had 15 customers, which is NOTHING. You need customers in order to even think about raises. At an extremely busy location, where the employees don't have time to breath, raises should be a given. Depends on location.

Plus the angry customers each day really didn't make anything better. Kept raising the sales goals but wouldn't raise the commission amount. Finally found something better, now I'm an electrician making way more money and actually enjoy it :)

    • @PatrickRatman
      @PatrickRatman 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@crazy808ish Well Subway for a while was exploding with growth and they offered franchises to everybody who was willing to buy one. but part of buying a subway franchise is you have to pay the franchise fees which you NEVER get to stop paying because they take it directly out of your profits. This causes owners to do really stupid and unnecessary things to save money like not involve themselves in buying promo materials for new sandwiches or be stingy with certain kinds of cheeses (if you've ever been refused swiss, this is why).
      Personally i had to haggle my raise by applying to another job, getting the job offer and dropping it infront of the owner and saying that i'd be gone if i didn't get raised to that amount (11.50 an hour to be precise, at the time owner was paying slightly higher than min wage in CO at 9.50). he never let me catch a break for that but by the end of the year i ended up leaving Subway for that job anyway. when you live in corporate hell you gotta learn to play the assholes, and in this day and age being a "loyal employee" that does everything their told without ever directly asking for a raise is a situation just begging for you to grow spiteful and angry at your job anyway.
      What people don't understand is that by trying to be the low wage worker that will work for less and work harder (i.e. most mass unskilled immigrant workers being forced into a population that doesn't need them) not only earns YOU less money, but makes it harder for anybody else to earn more money as well. if EVERYBODY and i mean EVERYBODY knew to argue their own worth then we wouldn't have these bullshit commie unions where they take even more of your money to give you the illusion of "owning the means of production"
