My career has been so similar. Did delivery for 3.5 years before deciding to get my CDL. Did a year regional with a mega carrier to get my experience then came back to the same terminal to start local line haul. Easiest job I’ve ever had!!
Congrats on getting your CDL and the new gig. I drove for fedex ground for about a year before I called it quits and got a trucking job driving for a grocery chain. That’s the great thing about having your CDL. You can pretty much work wherever you want.

With working in Phoenix with the extreme heat in the Summer months I think it was a great decision to move from driving Residential delivery to driving across country with a Semi. Hope one day you will start your channel again and hope that all is well with your employment since this video was made. I am subscribing as I think you have great talent in narrating, filming and once again connecting with your viewing audience. Really appreciate the comment! My wife and I have a 41’ Bluebird bus that we’d like to renovate next year and I plan on filming the renovation and making videos about our journey. I know it’s not quite the same niche but my goal is they’ll be enjoyable to watch even for viewers not particularly interested in “bus life” and that it will develop into much more for us. I really do enjoy the process of filming and telling a story/creating a video.

@thomaswilson8634 absolutely no desire to buy a motorcoach. Half of the reason I’m doing it is for the conversion process. Not really worried, I have just about the best engine and transmission combo out there.
My dad was a long haul truck driver - and this reminded me of my summers as a kid when I'd go with him and spend 5 days at a time on the road. My dad and I haven't spoken in years - Just remembering these times brought a smile to my face.
Love the video, man! I worked for FedEx freight for 14 years as a jockey and almost entered the driver program if it weren't for a huge loss in seniority. The drivers at my terminal in PA were legends with dealing with bad PA winters and 14 hour days. The pay was off the charts though. Talking $125K easy for the higher seniority drivers. Not a bad career all things considered. Keep up the great content!

Losing seniority is a bummer, I feel like companies should have more fair ways to allow transfers but I guess it’s only fair to the guy who’s been in that department longer.
Good job on the upgrade! I, too, am a linehaul driver, but for a contractor in the Philly area. I've been doing it for 3 years now. I've been driving trucks for almost 18 years. The contractor I work for is one of those golden unicorns. Turnover isn't a thing at this one and pay is pretty damn good compared to the companies around the area, and my work-life balance is second to none. Don't be afraid to drive slow in inclement weather. There are too many out there who are in a hurry to drive through it. You'll get there when you do. It's better than becoming a spectacle for everybody else. Develop solid fundamentals and stick to them, and you'll be golden for the rest of your career wherever you decide to take your experience in the future. When it comes to sticking the dolly underneath the rear trailer. I always make sure to lower the trailer enough to the point where the dolly won't lodge itself underneath. I like making sure the dolly is at least a few inches or half a foot off the ground. That way, I know when I hook to the trailer, it's a solid one and leaves no lingering doubts in the back of my mind. I also ALWAYS get under and check to see if the jaw is locked. A simple tug test isn't going to cut it. I've seen way too many drivers dump a trailer in the yard, at the exit gates, and sometimes on the freeway on-ramp. Why? Because they were either in a hurry, don't care enough to do their job properly, or sadly weren't trained properly. Don't become one of those ones. Always take pride in what you're doing. Anyway, hope you're still out there somewhere. Maybe we'll run into one another at 219 (Hagerstown, MD) one of these nights or early mornings.
Been to Hagerstown quite a few times! One of the better tan stations for sure! Plus it’s so large they have a lot of good freight and miles🙌🏻 I feel like I also work for one of those companies. Top pay even coming on board with no experience. 401k matching and healthcare, life insurance, etc. and working to make the company employee owned in the next few years. I’m actually in my last 2 weeks of employment in the linehaul profession though. Getting ready to get married and settle down so I just accepted a position in the real estate industry with a base pay of more than I’d ever make driving for a company and with potential to make a lot more throughout the year with bonuses. Loved my time driving and seeing the country. Always found it to be somewhat exciting waking up in new cities with different views, but I want to have kids and build a life with my fiancé and spending most nights away from her was never a long term solution❤️

I remember mistaking it for Hillsborough, OR and had to do a double take to make sure I saw CA right. It was an older guy in the driver seat. Looked just like your co-driver. I'm actually working on getting on with one the Teamsters outfits back home (Phoenix). I've gotten callbacks on all the places I've applied. The two I'm eying are Sysco and US Foods. Did food service for some years in WA. I miss that side of trucking. I miss the customer interactions and physical work. It's damn great money, too! Besides, AZ is where the vast majority of my people are. I'm sick of the non-riding weather this time of the year and I'm simply ready to finally come home. Knowing you served, I hope you didn't get exposed to the burn pits. My cousin, who lives in PV, has terminal cancer due to the exposure while serving in Iraq. If you were, please get checked on at least once a month. Not only for your sake but your future wife and kids y'all may have. Stay swell! Maybe we'll cross each other's paths over there.
@@XxGyromancerXx I haven’t been to Hagerstown in a few months and have had a different co driver for the past 6 months but it could’ve very well been him! Luckily just Army National Guard, no war time and no ptsd or any other injuries for that matter🙏🏻 Sysco and US Foods are great options. Thought about them as well since I enjoy having some physical work and like working a route like that, but didn’t want to work a night shift since that’s when my girl is home. But they’re great for working local and still making good money!🙌🏻
@@mutchler87 You're fortunate. Well, if you know some people who were exposed, it wouldn't hurt to maybe tell them to get regular checkups. Night time is what I prefer. I don't care if I have to work weekends or act as a cover driver for those who are off or on vacation. As long as I get at least 48hrs off, consecutively, I don't care. 34hrs doesn't cut it.

I think most people tired of FedEx ground/home delivery should get their cdl. It's a choice maybe someday I'll make. Love the good vibe energy from you.
I am a retired Fedex Freight city driver and I could not be a road driver because I am also retired military which required me to travel across the USA and Europe. Enjoy your travels!

Got my CDL in 2003. Drove OTR for 6 years, then done with that. Still have my CDL it alway has priority over someone who doesn't have one. Good driving record and CDL, you'll always have employment.
Not sure I’ll make that switch, but I imagine it would be. As of now the plan is becoming an operations manager.. home every day and no driving. (Except the occasional covering for a driver)

Pretty new to the industry myself so not really sure of how different of an industry it is.. my last co driver previously drove tanker for a few years but it’s was a concrete truck so I imagine it would be less stress than hauling something explosive/hazardous!

Try getting on with fedex freight. We’re making 33 an hour, and home every night. Off the weekends and 2 bonuses a year plus all kinds of other benefits and they do safety cookouts and all Kinda of stuff for us
I’ve considered it and it’s still an option but my current company has plans for me to be an operations manager.. it’s $104k a year salary plus benefits and they’re in the process of becoming employee owned and said the ops managers would be closer to $120k a year in the next 2 years. Most of the work can be done from home over the phone with the occasional trip to the station to get trucks scheduled for maintenance. If that doesn’t pan out it would be at the top of my list!🙌🏻

How hard is it driving the semis? Considered doing it for YEARS, but i always liked being active and moving around a lot so i stayed delivering with fedex express...
I definitely enjoyed my days of delivering for keeping active but the money is quite a bit better with driving semi. It’s like anything, can take some getting use to but then you get so use to it you forget you’re driving a big truck.
Not sure what Express pays, but I make $1875 a week with FedEx linehaul. Now that’s 11 hours a day for 5 days.. so it works out to $34/hr.. the hourly isn’t crazy but it way less exhausting than delivering and since it’s flat pay and not overtime it doesn’t get overly taxed like it would at an hourly job.
I’ve been really lucky to be with really good teammates so far. But I think it helps that: 1. I was in the military and slept in the same room as 50+ people while in basic training. 2. I’ve always been a really good sleeper. 3. My company CEO vets drivers and hires competent individuals, but realistically you get to know them pretty quick while still having plenty of time to yourself while they sleep or vice versa🙏🏻
I’ve got quite a few on my GoPro and it’s n storage devices but I feel like they’re all very random.. anytime I’d start filming I’d have a random 48 hr breakdown, or I’d have to wait for freight for too long and then forget to film.

You’ll need to go to your local Craigslist or Indeed (I prefer Craigslist as you typically get in contact faster) and search FedEx. Craigslist will pop up driver and Linehaul positions.👌🏼
I haven’t been driving for 3 months. I drove for FedEx Linehaul for 10 months and really enjoyed it but was given an opportunity for a better paying job that allows me to be home.
I don’t drive a truck anymore. I drove as a team driver for 10 months and then transitioned into working sales/investor relations for a Private Equity company.

It kind of depends..if you know someone with a CDL you can absolutely team with them as long as they’re able to be hired by FedEx. Otherwise you just get paired with whoever and if the match isn’t working they’ll do their best to change your driver. You get use to working with just about anyone though.. only thing I can’t do is work in a truck with a heavy smoker.😵💫

Like would I be riding around with a delivery driver for the first few days or something?
Totally depends on the contractor. Typically you’ll ride along with another driver for a day or 2, and then you’ll have someone go with you for at least a day but every company does things a bit different when it comes to training. If you do go along with a driver, don’t let them abuse your help. Some drivers will sit in the truck and point to the door and make you take every stop. Let them know you’re there to help and to learn but you’re not doing their job. (Use your own best judgement) If you’re enjoying yourself or don’t feel like they’re being a jerk, then do what works best for you. Just a thought👌🏼
How do you get into FedEx CDL school? Do you have to work as a delivery driver for 1-2 years, prove that you're a reliable employee, and then ask your manager for that opportunity? Or how does it work?
You just go to an approved CDL school and once you graduate and get your CDL you can apply to work for a FedEx Linehaul contractor. I’ve heard FedEx Freight will put your through school but I’m not confident on that.
Lol, a contractor wants another week out of you, heard that many times when a driver leaves. And fed ex management messing up the hiring process, guess it’s not just my terminal, they are terrible and take their sweet time, good luck on your new journey
To be fair, that’s gonna happen at any job, and contractors had the worst year or 2 recently due to fuel prices.. but if it’s not making financial sense any more I totally get it! If you’re wanting to try FedEx linehaul I work for one of the best companies there is..highest pay, benefits, and becoming an employee owned company within the next few years.👌🏼
Can you get a CDL license through FedEx. I just started with FedEx ground 2 weeks ago and I’m already thinking of doing this but I’m not sure if they can help you if the company is contracted.
No, you have to go to an approved CDL school and then get hired by a contractor after the fact. Some contractors will pay for your school but I’ve found most pay way less to make their money back. My contractor pays a new driver $2000 of their CDL cost 👌🏼

@@aaron-damonkassner4715 You have to go to and graduate from an approved accredited trucking school to be hired by a FedEx contractor. You can try to find a company that will pay you to go to a trucking school but most will just pay you back or pay you a portion back after you graduate.
Really is.. anyone that says otherwise has either never done it, doesn’t sleep well in a moving vehicle, or just likes to feel like what they do is hard.. because 90% of the time it’s just cruising down the road enjoying the scenery✌🏻😎

So, it took about 4 weeks total but that’s only because of scheduling my drive test. Should be able to complete it in 3 weeks if you go full time to an approved CDL school.👌🏼
Search for a route/company that has more home deliveries.. most true Ground routes have been blended into hybrid home/ground routes.. but you can still find routes that are primary home deliveries👌🏼
First thing to do is go to an approved CDL school. Each state has their own lists, I’d send you the list I have but it’s only for Arizona. After that I could help you get a job if you’re still looking👌🏼

Why not just drive for FedEx rather than a contractor? Daycab life is where it’s at. Home everyday. I’m sure they pay more as well. That OTR gets old fast. I personally could never do team driving.
Tons of reasons. Starting pay for one. Availability of jobs. The ability to start making top pay my first week. The ability to become an operations manager rather than a driver within a short time. Working for a company that’s becoming employee owned. Working for a business where I speak to the CEO on a regular basis and he knows who I am and wants me here for the long run and is making it worth my while. Hard to explain it all via a text but FedEx freight is a good option for sure. And I only plan to do OTR for a year or less so it’s a great fit for me. 😊

No, all FedEx Ground work is done by individual contractors so I work for a contractor that pays $2000 toward your CDL. $200 on each paycheck for the first 10 weeks and it’s a reimbursement so you don’t get taxed on it.👌🏼
@@FreeHat if you enjoy being an hourly employee, Freight is definitely better. I can create my own schedule, run as many or as few miles as I want, take as many or as few breaks as I like, stop and take a reset in any city I’d like without asking permission.. and starting pay puts me at an average of $2k a week ($2500+ on the high end) without needing prior experience. But I’m not planning on working for a company for the rest of my life, so that’s also where Freight is better. Being an employee has never been my end goal.
What a cool video! I noticed that sometimes you have your uniform on, and sometimes not, are there rules for when you have to be in uniform at FedEx? I don't work at FedEx, but I'm jealous you get to wear such a nice uniform!
Technically you can wear whatever you want. Some contractors have policies about what you wear, but most don’t. I just happened to have these uniforms because I was a delivery driver for six years before I start driving semi.

I have full benefits, matching 401k and the opportunity to become an operations manager and make $120k/year and not be over the road. If I wanted to be in a truck for 20+ years I’d definitely go to Freight or UPS. *and my company is working on being employee owned so it will only be more beneficial in the near future 🙏🏻

I’ve done a few really good dedicated lanes but I was just covering for a teams that were taking vacation.. my favorite was 5800 miles running 5 days a week. I really enjoy wild currently but could see the appeal of dedicated once you’re over the newness of it all. Appreciate that, trying to find interesting content to post without it being super repetitive. Just added a Dji drone to my video arsenal so excited to see how the videos progressively get better🙌🏻
@Salesman it really depends. Employers know that there is tax or there isn’t so they try to/have to make it competitive. I would look into Fedex delivery jobs on craigslist/indeed and see what you come up with.
I'm a shutter driver for a food company. I drive doubles 95% of the time. I'm the 2nd female for the company I work for. Yes out of all the men it's just 2 women & we are shuttle drivers!! I have so many men say I neva seen a woman pull doubles b4🤣😂🤣😂 good luck on ur new job
Awesome! I tend to prefer double because of how easy they are to navigate but I will say, when it’s super windy I’d rather stick with a 53😬 I feel like more women would really enjoy the job as it’s good pay without being super stressful.. sales and marketing type jobs tends to go home with you😐
I luv it wouldn't trade it fornthe world. I work Sunday-Thursday at nite of course off major holidays. No complaints at all🙂 my hubby is a shuttle driver also he's been driving for almost 30 years. I like being home everyday & going to the same place to pick up my trailers

They all say they require a year of experience but if they have a “lead driver” (someone with 3 years of experience) FedEx will allow them to put you through driver training for 3 months. (basically just them sitting with you for the first 2 hours of your shift) After the 3 months you have to go through a series of tasks to show that you’re fully capable of driving solo and then submit that paper work to FedEx to file and then you’re fully qualified to drive solo or team without a lead driver.
@@freddyfreddy42 lately I’ve been staying out 2-3 weeks at a time but that’s been my choice. I’d say you could make it home every weekend and still average very close to the same money. Just depends on what station you work out of and where they dispatch to. I dispatch out of Vegas but live in Dallas so I choose to stay out longer and then take a 3 day weekend home.
When Covid first hit I tried taking a job at the airport working for Prospect airlines after the PSA oh my gosh I don’t want to do a federal work ever flipping again until I have college degrees because first of all I can’t drive second because I have epilepsy which is a neurological disability and third, I can’t do overtime ever because working somebody like me overtime can trigger a seizure for me I keep prescription medication for my seizures thank you very much because until they find different care for Seizures my doctors have told me if I do another kind of job I’m supposed to do a job where I’m at distance and I’m not handling toxic chemicals and I’m not lifting like three hundred or more pounds. I’m not supposed to lift heavy things at all I mean I can hold my baby niece easily. I can hold my five-year-old niece who’s all grown? She is a little bit heavy but she’s not heavy heavy like a wheelchair heavy
@@mutchler87 I can’t even do warehouse jobs anymore and I have worked in a warehouse before when I was a young adult. I also worked for McDonald’s and a movie theater when I was younger and even for the Food Court, Stan add an ice rink I cannot lift a whole package of Powerade to bring inside the ice rink to load the fridge up. I would have to get a cart and put it on there. Roll the cart to the fridge open the fridge and put the Gatorade and Powerade in there especially bread bowl. My doctors told me I’m supposed to work at an office job or distancing job like I could be a personal trainer like my current boyfriend and work for a gym I could work for a law firm I could work for a bank or something where I’m doing typing and I’m still making a difference with peoples health and fitness goals. I’ve even work for sharks music Company as an intern, temp receiving warehouse worker where the stuff comes in and they have a ticket slip with it. It has a number you type a number and computer to print the official ticket and then you take the item to the table you dump it out you sort the item you check to see if there are any damages you put it to a side you take the ticket to computer after you count the total number of items and once at me and be fixed to computer you type the numbers in and how many stickers do you need to print out of the item you go back to the table but there’s stickers on the items I’ve done that and then you have to put them back in box and write on box the product number and the quantity number and then somebody puts it on the shelf. It was an interesting job. I learned a lot, but at the same time I was just about to do college stuff I was going through a young adult transition program. I was doing several different types of programs, activity wise. I even got some of my coworkers together and started working at softball team for our company for the summer and just to get some exercise and to have fun and I didn’t think anybody would wanna join the team but they did no worries. Professional softball team like the Tigers the 49ers it was just a community recognition program coed and I figure since I don’t play for my community college a more and I’m working at Shars let’s try to start a team shirts and we did we came up with T-shirts and we did pretty good we don’t do anything like championship or anything like that but I would even want to be a professional athlete to be honest

I know it’s not quite the same niche but my goal is they’ll be enjoyable to watch even for viewers not particularly interested in “bus life” and that it will develop into much more for us. I really do enjoy the process of filming and telling a story/creating a video.

@thomaswilson8634 absolutely no desire to buy a motorcoach. Half of the reason I’m doing it is for the conversion process. Not really worried, I have just about the best engine and transmission combo out there.
My dad was a long haul truck driver - and this reminded me of my summers as a kid when I'd go with him and spend 5 days at a time on the road. My dad and I haven't spoken in years - Just remembering these times brought a smile to my face.

Love the video, man! I worked for FedEx freight for 14 years as a jockey and almost entered the driver program if it weren't for a huge loss in seniority. The drivers at my terminal in PA were legends with dealing with bad PA winters and 14 hour days. The pay was off the charts though. Talking $125K easy for the higher seniority drivers. Not a bad career all things considered. Keep up the great content!

Luckily I’ve only had a bit of snow so far.. not looking forward to much more😆 But yea, the money is pretty good and I enjoy it for now! Losing seniority is a bummer, I feel like companies should have more fair ways to allow transfers but I guess it’s only fair to the guy who’s been in that department longer.
Good job on the upgrade! I, too, am a linehaul driver, but for a contractor in the Philly area. I've been doing it for 3 years now. I've been driving trucks for almost 18 years. The contractor I work for is one of those golden unicorns. Turnover isn't a thing at this one and pay is pretty damn good compared to the companies around the area, and my work-life balance is second to none. Don't be afraid to drive slow in inclement weather. There are too many out there who are in a hurry to drive through it. You'll get there when you do. It's better than becoming a spectacle for everybody else. Develop solid fundamentals and stick to them, and you'll be golden for the rest of your career wherever you decide to take your experience in the future.
When it comes to sticking the dolly underneath the rear trailer. I always make sure to lower the trailer enough to the point where the dolly won't lodge itself underneath. I like making sure the dolly is at least a few inches or half a foot off the ground. That way, I know when I hook to the trailer, it's a solid one and leaves no lingering doubts in the back of my mind. I also ALWAYS get under and check to see if the jaw is locked. A simple tug test isn't going to cut it. I've seen way too many drivers dump a trailer in the yard, at the exit gates, and sometimes on the freeway on-ramp. Why? Because they were either in a hurry, don't care enough to do their job properly, or sadly weren't trained properly. Don't become one of those ones. Always take pride in what you're doing.
Anyway, hope you're still out there somewhere. Maybe we'll run into one another at 219 (Hagerstown, MD) one of these nights or early mornings.
Been to Hagerstown quite a few times! One of the better tan stations for sure! Plus it’s so large they have a lot of good freight and miles🙌🏻
I feel like I also work for one of those companies. Top pay even coming on board with no experience. 401k matching and healthcare, life insurance, etc. and working to make the company employee owned in the next few years.
I’m actually in my last 2 weeks of employment in the linehaul profession though. Getting ready to get married and settle down so I just accepted a position in the real estate industry with a base pay of more than I’d ever make driving for a company and with potential to make a lot more throughout the year with bonuses. Loved my time driving and seeing the country. Always found it to be somewhat exciting waking up in new cities with different views, but I want to have kids and build a life with my fiancé and spending most nights away from her was never a long term solution❤️

I think I saw a truck from your contractor at 219 a couple weeks ago. I remember mistaking it for Hillsborough, OR and had to do a double take to make sure I saw CA right. It was an older guy in the driver seat. Looked just like your co-driver.
I'm actually working on getting on with one the Teamsters outfits back home (Phoenix). I've gotten callbacks on all the places I've applied. The two I'm eying are Sysco and US Foods. Did food service for some years in WA. I miss that side of trucking. I miss the customer interactions and physical work. It's damn great money, too! Besides, AZ is where the vast majority of my people are. I'm sick of the non-riding weather this time of the year and I'm simply ready to finally come home.
Knowing you served, I hope you didn't get exposed to the burn pits. My cousin, who lives in PV, has terminal cancer due to the exposure while serving in Iraq. If you were, please get checked on at least once a month. Not only for your sake but your future wife and kids y'all may have.

Sysco and US Foods are great options. Thought about them as well since I enjoy having some physical work and like working a route like that, but didn’t want to work a night shift since that’s when my girl is home. But they’re great for working local and still making good money!🙌🏻

Night time is what I prefer. I don't care if I have to work weekends or act as a cover driver for those who are off or on vacation. As long as I get at least 48hrs off, consecutively, I don't care. 34hrs doesn't cut it.

Got my CDL in 2003. Drove OTR for 6 years, then done with that. Still have my CDL it alway has priority over someone who doesn't have one. Good driving record and CDL, you'll always have employment.

When you make the switch from otr to linehaul its a smooth transition. Linehaul is the closest thing to otr except you come home every morning.
Not sure I’ll make that switch, but I imagine it would be. As of now the plan is becoming an operations manager.. home every day and no driving. (Except the occasional covering for a driver)

I do tankers and man I love it lol it can be stressful at times but overall pulling a tanker trailer is awesome 👍🏿
Pretty new to the industry myself so not really sure of how different of an industry it is.. my last co driver previously drove tanker for a few years but it’s was a concrete truck so I imagine it would be less stress than hauling something explosive/hazardous!

Yea, I know most don’t. My contractor does as well as one of the highest per mile rates in the industry.

Try getting on with fedex freight. We’re making 33 an hour, and home every night. Off the weekends and 2 bonuses a year plus all kinds of other benefits and they do safety cookouts and all

I’ve considered it and it’s still an option but my current company has plans for me to be an operations manager.. it’s $104k a year salary plus benefits and they’re in the process of becoming employee owned and said the ops managers would be closer to $120k a year in the next 2 years. Most of the work can be done from home over the phone with the occasional trip to the station to get trucks scheduled for maintenance. If that doesn’t pan out it would be at the top of my list!🙌🏻

How hard is it driving the semis? Considered doing it for YEARS, but i always liked being active and moving around a lot so i stayed delivering with fedex express...
I definitely enjoyed my days of delivering for keeping active but the money is quite a bit better with driving semi. It’s like anything, can take some getting use to but then you get so use to it you forget you’re driving a big truck.
Not sure what Express pays, but I make $1875 a week with FedEx linehaul. Now that’s 11 hours a day for 5 days.. so it works out to $34/hr.. the hourly isn’t crazy but it way less exhausting than delivering and since it’s flat pay and not overtime it doesn’t get overly taxed like it would at an hourly job.

Gotta say, I don’t know how people do team driving, especially with people you barely know.
I’ve been really lucky to be with really good teammates so far. But I think it helps that:
1. I was in the military and slept in the same room as 50+ people while in basic training.
2. I’ve always been a really good sleeper.
3. My company CEO vets drivers and hires competent individuals, but realistically you get to know them pretty quick while still having plenty of time to yourself while they sleep or vice versa🙏🏻

You’ll need to go to your local Craigslist or Indeed (I prefer Craigslist as you typically get in contact faster) and search FedEx. Craigslist will pop up driver and Linehaul positions.👌🏼

It kind of depends..if you know someone with a CDL you can absolutely team with them as long as they’re able to be hired by FedEx. Otherwise you just get paired with whoever and if the match isn’t working they’ll do their best to change your driver. You get use to working with just about anyone though.. only thing I can’t do is work in a truck with a heavy smoker.😵💫

Hey bud, I know you probably won't even see this message to respond to it BUT nonetheless figured I'd try anyway, sometime next week I'll be starting with FedEx ground, and I'm just wondering like exactly how do they train you? Like would I be riding around with a delivery driver for the first few days or something?
Totally depends on the contractor. Typically you’ll ride along with another driver for a day or 2, and then you’ll have someone go with you for at least a day but every company does things a bit different when it comes to training.
If you do go along with a driver, don’t let them abuse your help. Some drivers will sit in the truck and point to the door and make you take every stop. Let them know you’re there to help and to learn but you’re not doing their job. (Use your own best judgement) If you’re enjoying yourself or don’t feel like they’re being a jerk, then do what works best for you. Just a thought👌🏼

How do you get into FedEx CDL school? Do you have to work as a delivery driver for 1-2 years, prove that you're a reliable employee, and then ask your manager for that opportunity? Or how does it work?
You just go to an approved CDL school and once you graduate and get your CDL you can apply to work for a FedEx Linehaul contractor. I’ve heard FedEx Freight will put your through school but I’m not confident on that.

Can you get a CDL license through FedEx. I just started with FedEx ground 2 weeks ago and I’m already thinking of doing this but I’m not sure if they can help you if the company is contracted.
No, you have to go to an approved CDL school and then get hired by a contractor after the fact. Some contractors will pay for your school but I’ve found most pay way less to make their money back. My contractor pays a new driver $2000 of their CDL cost 👌🏼

So, it took about 4 weeks total but that’s only because of scheduling my drive test. Should be able to complete it in 3 weeks if you go full time to an approved CDL school.👌🏼

Search for a route/company that has more home deliveries.. most true Ground routes have been blended into hybrid home/ground routes.. but you can still find routes that are primary home deliveries👌🏼

Why not just drive for FedEx rather than a contractor? Daycab life is where it’s at. Home everyday. I’m sure they pay more as well. That OTR gets old fast. I personally could never do team driving.
Tons of reasons. Starting pay for one. Availability of jobs. The ability to start making top pay my first week. The ability to become an operations manager rather than a driver within a short time. Working for a company that’s becoming employee owned. Working for a business where I speak to the CEO on a regular basis and he knows who I am and wants me here for the long run and is making it worth my while. Hard to explain it all via a text but FedEx freight is a good option for sure. And I only plan to do OTR for a year or less so it’s a great fit for me. 😊

I can see the toll it could take on someone for sure! Already having to make the gym a priority and working on my diet to keep from getting too fluffy😆 I would switch to day cab relatively soon if I didn’t see a future with this company. They’re growing super fast and my boss has already had several talks with me about becoming one of the next operations managers. Salary starts at $104k a year plus benefits and it’s going up in the next year or 2. 🙏🏻

No, all FedEx Ground work is done by individual contractors so I work for a contractor that pays $2000 toward your CDL. $200 on each paycheck for the first 10 weeks and it’s a reimbursement so you don’t get taxed on it.👌🏼
FedEx freight will pay for it if you get hired as a driver apprentice. Way better than working for a contractor.

@@FreeHat if you enjoy being an hourly employee, Freight is definitely better. I can create my own schedule, run as many or as few miles as I want, take as many or as few breaks as I like, stop and take a reset in any city I’d like without asking permission.. and starting pay puts me at an average of $2k a week ($2500+ on the high end) without needing prior experience. But I’m not planning on working for a company for the rest of my life, so that’s also where Freight is better. Being an employee has never been my end goal.
What a cool video! I noticed that sometimes you have your uniform on, and sometimes not, are there rules for when you have to be in uniform at FedEx? I don't work at FedEx, but I'm jealous you get to wear such a nice uniform!
Technically you can wear whatever you want. Some contractors have policies about what you wear, but most don’t. I just happened to have these uniforms because I was a delivery driver for six years before I start driving semi.

I have full benefits, matching 401k and the opportunity to become an operations manager and make $120k/year and not be over the road. If I wanted to be in a truck for 20+ years I’d definitely go to Freight or UPS.

He’s doing team meaning he drives his hours then his co driver drives his hours so the truck keeps moving well that’s the idea of team driving

@@newskiee very cool! Wish I would’ve switched over earlier for the pay increase, but I can’t complain because I was really enjoying my off time. I’ve done a few really good dedicated lanes but I was just covering for a teams that were taking vacation.. my favorite was 5800 miles running 5 days a week. I really enjoy wild currently but could see the appeal of dedicated once you’re over the newness of it all.

Is it possible to average $1k after taxes weekly at FedEx Ground?
It’s possible, but not super likely. My average was between el$800 and $850 weekly but that was also in Vegas with no income tax.
@@mutchler87 geez if that's the case, knowing how my state of NY is, I'd probably would be averaging only $600 a week since they tax everything here.
@Salesman it really depends. Employers know that there is tax or there isn’t so they try to/have to make it competitive. I would look into Fedex delivery jobs on craigslist/indeed and see what you come up with.
I'm a shutter driver for a food company. I drive doubles 95% of the time. I'm the 2nd female for the company I work for. Yes out of all the men it's just 2 women & we are shuttle drivers!! I have so many men say I neva seen a woman pull doubles b4🤣😂🤣😂 good luck on ur new job
Awesome! I tend to prefer double because of how easy they are to navigate but I will say, when it’s super windy I’d rather stick with a 53😬
I feel like more women would really enjoy the job as it’s good pay without being super stressful.. sales and marketing type jobs tends to go home with you😐
Also, you should consider making videos.. so few women truckers and even fewer who document the process.. the videos most always do really well🙌🏻
I luv it wouldn't trade it fornthe world. I work Sunday-Thursday at nite of course off major holidays. No complaints at all🙂 my hubby is a shuttle driver also he's been driving for almost 30 years. I like being home everyday & going to the same place to pick up my trailers

So they hired you with no experience? All the locations by me require a year..
They all say they require a year of experience but if they have a “lead driver” (someone with 3 years of experience) FedEx will allow them to put you through driver training for 3 months. (basically just them sitting with you for the first 2 hours of your shift)
After the 3 months you have to go through a series of tasks to show that you’re fully capable of driving solo and then submit that paper work to FedEx to file and then you’re fully qualified to drive solo or team without a lead driver.

@@freddyfreddy42 lately I’ve been staying out 2-3 weeks at a time but that’s been my choice. I’d say you could make it home every weekend and still average very close to the same money. Just depends on what station you work out of and where they dispatch to. I dispatch out of Vegas but live in Dallas so I choose to stay out longer and then take a 3 day weekend home.

When Covid first hit I tried taking a job at the airport working for Prospect airlines after the PSA oh my gosh I don’t want to do a federal work ever flipping again until I have college degrees because first of all I can’t drive second because I have epilepsy which is a neurological disability and third, I can’t do overtime ever because working somebody like me overtime can trigger a seizure for me I keep prescription medication for my seizures thank you very much because until they find different care for Seizures my doctors have told me if I do another kind of job I’m supposed to do a job where I’m at distance and I’m not handling toxic chemicals and I’m not lifting like three hundred or more pounds. I’m not supposed to lift heavy things at all I mean I can hold my baby niece easily. I can hold my five-year-old niece who’s all grown? She is a little bit heavy but she’s not heavy heavy like a wheelchair heavy

@@mutchler87 I can’t even do warehouse jobs anymore and I have worked in a warehouse before when I was a young adult. I also worked for McDonald’s and a movie theater when I was younger and even for the Food Court, Stan add an ice rink I cannot lift a whole package of Powerade to bring inside the ice rink to load the fridge up. I would have to get a cart and put it on there. Roll the cart to the fridge open the fridge and put the Gatorade and Powerade in there especially bread bowl. My doctors told me I’m supposed to work at an office job or distancing job like I could be a personal trainer like my current boyfriend and work for a gym I could work for a law firm I could work for a bank or something where I’m doing typing and I’m still making a difference with peoples health and fitness goals. I’ve even work for sharks music Company as an intern, temp receiving warehouse worker where the stuff comes in and they have a ticket slip with it. It has a number you type a number and computer to print the official ticket and then you take the item to the table you dump it out you sort the item you check to see if there are any damages you put it to a side you take the ticket to computer after you count the total number of items and once at me and be fixed to computer you type the numbers in and how many stickers do you need to print out of the item you go back to the table but there’s stickers on the items I’ve done that and then you have to put them back in box and write on box the product number and the quantity number and then somebody puts it on the shelf. It was an interesting job. I learned a lot, but at the same time I was just about to do college stuff I was going through a young adult transition program. I was doing several different types of programs, activity wise. I even got some of my coworkers together and started working at softball team for our company for the summer and just to get some exercise and to have fun and I didn’t think anybody would wanna join the team but they did no worries. Professional softball team like the Tigers the 49ers it was just a community recognition program coed and I figure since I don’t play for my community college a more and I’m working at Shars let’s try to start a team shirts and we did we came up with T-shirts and we did pretty good we don’t do anything like championship or anything like that but I would even want to be a professional athlete to be honest
I could probably even do massage therapy maybe work in barbershop or hairstylist shop for a start

Yes! You just have to verify you’ve driven for work before.. can be pizza delivery, Uber etc. 👌🏼
