- Lewis, Tolkien, and Allegory | Fr. Bonaventure Chapman & Fr. Patrick Briscoe
On this episode, Fr. Bonaventure and Fr. Patrick discuss C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, what an allegory is, and how it applies to the writings of Lewis and Tolkien. What does allegory have to do with it? How can these authors' writings lead us to Christ? What do the two different writing approaches tell us?

Beautiful references to the power of hearing our Name. Thank you Fathers.
Part 2 please!
Hi, I'm a cradle Catholic and love BOTH authors. I highly recommend Michael Ward's videos on TH-cam. I'm getting his book for Christmas. :) Great authors and great Christians.
For more information, there is a book called Tolkien and CS Lewis by Colin Duriez that dives into their letters and friendship. Highly recommended ❤
For more on Lewis I recommend the podcast “Pints with Jack”!

I grew up a Protestant and was an early Tolkien and Lewis fan. I read LOTR more than once and never identified Christian themes (except of course in the creation myth in the Silmarillion). The Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe, on the other hand, just kind of slaps you in the face with the gospel message. When I was in college and went to a Protestant retreat, the chaplain even read excerpts from LWW to help explain some Christian doctrines. Then again, getting deep in Lewis, especially his non-fiction, it’s hard not to take that final faith step that he wouldn’t take. I know Tolkien was always upset that Lewis didn’t get all the way to Rome.
The Jimmy Stewart movie is not Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, its Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation!
5:24 the loo, the w.c., the Water Closet! 🚾
They are also called latrines..the toilet.." just came from the latrine!"
...but let's face it, Lewis and Tolkien are both monumental Christian authors ❤❤❤
