Thanks for reviewing the Burkin plant. I just got one too, but mine is a baby. But it came in a pot with two other plants, both peperomias. I separated them. The three cost me $25 here in Australia. Planted the Burkin in it's own little decorative pot and the peperomias I added to my bird bath planter. I plant my plants directly into the decorative pots and use chunky orchid mix. When I water I go to the sink and drench them and then hold my hand over the top of the soil and drain them thoroughly over the sink, by tilting them over and spilling as much as I can out. Never had root rot. There is one pot I can't do that with and it is a bird bath that I use as a planter for many different kinds of plants (open air terrarium style). I put in a decorative terracotta ball in it too, but you can use a very small terracotta pot, it would do the same thing and I dug it into the soil as deep down as I could. What it does is show me how wet the soil is. The wetter it appears the more moisture there is in the soil. Also the terracotta helps evaporate the water from the soil. It has live worms in the soil and last time I planted a new plant there found 5 big guys. They don't seem to harm the plants at all, if anything they help them. I have some very fine plants there too like baby tears. So you can plant directly into a decorative pot, but you have to make sure you tip it over in the sink to remove the excess water or use a way to judge how wet the soil is like I did with a terracotta ball or pot or a moisture meter. I would never plant an orchid into a decorative pot though. For them I do something completely different. Usually a clear plastic pot with holes almost to the top of the pot then put that into a decorative cement planter and then sit that cement planter in a clear deep plastic drip tray that is about an inch or so wider than the cement pot all around then fill it with Leca. Because what I do is water from inside and outside the pot to keep the humidity high. The outside Leca part I make sure is always full of water, that way I can grow java moss on the cement pot. It also looks so cool that way, as it looks very natural, but at the same time creating humidity for the orchid. I also keep planted fish tanks and a 4 foot paludarium with a grow wall. So been doing this sort of thing for some time. By the way love your channel.

I have one of these Birkins, mine is huge it lives in a 3 gallon container. I got mine at LOWE'S, I MAKE a homemade liquid fertilizer out of worm castings, and epsom salts. I use 1 gallon of water from the sink ( let it set for 24 hours ) Then add 2 tablespoons of worm castings and 1 tablespoon of epsom salts, shake well. I use this on all of my house plants and they all seem to thrive. My Birkins has put off two shoots in 2 years, so I have repotted these in separate containers. So I guess you could say I've got 3 Birkins for the price of 1 and to think I got mine on clearance for $8.00

@@theplantingbug2045 She paid $12 and change, which is crazy because the plant is listed on their website as a 6 in 1 Philodendron for $43. Probably the fact that it was not labelled had something to do with it. They didn't know what they were dealing with at the store.

I just went through the same process today. Thanks to this video , I finnally found what type of plant this is. Took me all day lol, picked it up at my local grocery store for 17.99. I'm brand new to plants so I really had no idea what it was , as there was no tag. Took it home n googled it, all that Came up was Chinese evergreen. So excited to find what type so I can learn how to take proper care of him. He's absolutely stunning. One leaf (which is what cought my eye) has one side all green and the other the white and green strippy type look (not sure what that is called) some leaves have more white than green n vise virsa. With this burgendy-ish colour comming up the stems. I'm so inlove.

I just got mine a few days ago and it was pretty cheap but way smaller than yours. Still love it though. How has yours been going in the winter months? Mine was in transit for 3 days in freezing temperatures so it showed up a bit battered. My main concern is that the tips of the leaves are curling down quite a bit, which is apparently a reaction to low humidity, so I'm just trying to let it rest in its new home and get the humidity up a bit - got it on top of a pebble tray, misting it very lightly and put a tray of water on top of my nearby radiator.

I live in Utah so for me this is a rare plant that I have been trying to find here locally for a while. It was expensive I hate to even say but it was more than $60 ugh!!! 🤦‍♀️
I wish mine was only $10. It’s actually quit sad because I am seeing the pricing on plants especially more popular ones go up in pricing quit a bit. Thanks so much for watching and commenting. 💚

You are sooo lucky so got your Birkin for only $10... its still at least $30, for a juvenile , here in the Philippines. The first Birkin I saw was priced at $50. And it was just a juvenile!!!
