  • These IRISES (Chris doesn't know plant names...) could never grow on this landscape, in 35 years, until adding a little structure to reduce lost water, a little rich soil, and some light mulch.
The plants shown here have never been watered. They are now in a "substrate" capable of retaining moisture (rainwater, condensation, dew, etc.) and microbiology (the rich soil), and they are benefitting from the increased transpiration across the landscape.
This is one tiny example of a dry area of landscape (literally rocks) that now contains 7 lush and growing plants, just because we added ... "a little structure to reduce lost water, a little rich soil, and some light mulch."

YES, these are IRISES (Chris doesn't know plant names),
These IRISES' remarkable growth with added soil-sponge, no water, is of course the point.
      Sincere Apologies & thanks!
