Sashiko techniqué was "invented" as a mending techniqué. You can use just the stitches to reinforce a weak or thin spot in the fabric or add a patch (boro) to cover a hole. So if you are trying to mend, it's important to use a stronger sashiko thread. If you are just having fun embroidering say... a mug rug, it doesn't matter what thread you use... fun fact: there's no sashiko police! Sending lots of love 💖 from sunny 🌞 Arizona 🌵😷
Your videos are the best resource on sashiko on the internet. Please keep making videos, especially mending ones (they're becoming very popular with the zero waste movement). I've subscribed!
I have some sashiko thread on hand but wanted to change color so I used 3 strands of dmc embroidery floss and I'm happy with the look and ease of sewing.
Lauren Guevara you could use a machine thread but it won't be as strong and may twist or knot as you use it! You could also separate an embroidery skein to achieve the finer thread, but again it can twist and isn't as strong...sorry I'm not being very helpful🙈. I guess if you're working an area that doesn't need strength and is just decorative, you can but as above may get knotty...let me know how you get on 😘😘 x

Exactly what I wanted to know. I don't shop online so now I have to see if I can find it locally.
Thank you so much.

Embroidery thread is for Embroidery! Sashiko melts into mending...
Informative but there's no need for the ear splitting noise at the intro - sometimes less is more!
