Hi guys and thanks for stopping by! My name is Melissa and I have been a police officer for just about 15 years now! I am currently a lieutenant in a large metropolitan police department and I created this video to share with you five things I would do differently as a rookie police officer. **These are just my personal thoughts and opinions. They may not be the same as you! And that's ok!** I hope you find some value in this video.

I graduated the academy early 2019. I have discovered that since then I have let the job just pull me along. I have worked the crazy hours, slammed arrests, and took on the world. However, I forgot to look out for myself. I woke up one night sleep deprived, unhealthy, and with no home life. My goal for 2023 is to take control of the job before it eats me alive. I love being a cop but it is a sacrifice and demands an intentional approach.
I know how that feels and I hope you are able to do what you need to prioritize yourself. And I hope your superiors with your agency are understanding of that. Keep me updated on how you are doing and feel free to DM me over on Instagram 💙!

How would you like to apply for a Police Department in Long Island, New York,? Called the Suffolk County P.D, its the 2nd or 3rd highest paying Police job in the country, they hire the majority time, ex Officers from other Police Departments .
I’m 51 and about thinking entering as a correctional Trainee, do you have any recommendations or advice for me?
That would depend on the whatever the standard is for the training. Do you mean from a PT standpoint? The only correctional position I considered had a very regulated set of physical standards. Even a younger person would need to be preparing physically to meet the requirements. I would suggest being aware of what they are and what will be expected and training for that regularly.
@@copmom911 yes, I was looking at it from a PT standpoint. I’ve been training in the gym for over a year but I feel that 1.5 mile run might be difficult for me. I’m not a runner. Overall, I would say I’m in pretty good shape. I did some research the other night on different professions of law-enforcement. Researching what the requirements were as you said so this was helpful.. thank you for responding. 😀
