Thank you Philip. Firstly those timbers need to be changed badly... They can do a few things Philip. They can prevent tear-out & they let you make lap joints or cut rebates (rabbets) on a miter saw. Have a look at these vids they explain it.

How do you find the Rustins wood dye? I got ebony a while ago and have no luck with it. Comes out very watery and grey. Have no problem with any other shades

I found it Ok, that was my first time to use the ebony. I applied two liberal coats with a brush with a light wipe after. I was happy with the results.
