great rifle, i have it in .243 - highly accurate rifle-sub half moa at 100 yds rested, only issue i had was the smoothness of bolt action was initially terrible , 3 grades of diamond lapping paste soon sorted it and it is now as smooth as glass
This is an outstanding rifle that exceeded my expectations. Sub inch moa and I got 1 inch at 200 yards with 180 grain federal vital shok trophy copper and with 180 grain Remington core locks. Still working the reload powders and bullets, only managed 1 inch at 100.
The AB3 doesnt use a 'plasticky' kind of stock. Browning uses advanced structural nylon for the stock composition. Structural Nylon is far stronger than typically found with other synthetics.
Nylon is a thermoplastic. So, yeah, the AB3 has a plastic stock. Just because it has a fancy name does not mean it is not a plastic. There are many other kinds of plastics with fancy names. High Density Polyethylene and Low Density Polyethylene are two the come to mind. "Plastic" is a broad term that encompasses many different kinds of plastics. Plastics are a wide class of synthetic or semi-synthetic organic compounds.
@@acoow just depends on the alloy. Mineral filled Nylon can be hard as a rock depending on % of mineral. others like Xenoy or Noryl are lighter great impact but more flex. a matter of how much the MFG's want to spend on raw materials and tooling quality to mold them properly
I have an ab3 in 7mm rem mag and love it. the bolt is clunky at first but after the rifle being used a bit it smooth's right up. the stock is very good and the recoil pad is amazing. makes my 7mm recoil feel like a 270. great review but u cant compare the ab3 to the xbolt. $500 gun vs $1000 gun so obviously the xbolt will be more attractive to most shooters.
I have been having hell with my 7mm RemMag. The first shot throws it 5 inches high and 4 inches right or left. But after that first throw they start grouping and whenever I would change to a different bullet to find out which it liked the first 1 or 2 would be that wild throw. And I get some serious barrel jump when I fire it. I don't know if it's me since i use a lead sled and have had other guys shoot it. I've never had my 300's, 270's or 6.5's do this. So I'm in some new territory here.
Alright...looking at this and a TC Compass in .300 Win Mag. You've given me enough to think about, now I just need to hold and manipulate both. Well done.
With permission, I comment on some details of the video: 1.- The folding cover of the Browning BAR magazines isn't not a whim; responds to a solution to comply with the regulations of some countries. There are also versions with a detachable magazine. 2.- The AB3 bolt resists being closed because it has to overcome the resistance of the magazine lifting plate. When the magazine has its cartridges, the bolt closes softly. 3.- If you don't like a heavy bolt with a large cylinder diameter, you can choose the Winchester XPR... But you probably won't find it as robust. It is good that the bolt is like this; After all, it is a critical part of the rifle. I hope I haven't messed up too much with my English. Good video. Greetings from Spain
The a-bolt II is a better built gun the hinged floor plate with detachable mag is nice because then you dont have to worry about losing it because it got caught on something while walking through the woods
The problem with some of them (308 wood A-Bolt II I had) was that the button on the trigger guard had loose tolerances, so the floor plate did not sit flush and then did not feed well. It only fed well if you pushed the floor plate flush with one handle with chambering. It also had a 24” barrel for a .308, which doesn’t make much sense. It did shoot great, though.
I have to say, I do like the angle of the bolt knob and the swell in the pistol grip, ( this 'swell' reminds me of the stock on my Walther Terrus Air Rifle ). I'd like to know what you think of this AB3 as compared to the Remington 783.
@@robertboyd3863 the hinge plate broke on my 06 and cost me like 65$ for pot metal. The older version was nice for my 308 from mid 80's . Floor plate and hinge were steel
Hi I have an AB 3+ (308) how the hell do one dissambly the bolt? Beacause the only thing that turns is the firing pin then one drags the firing pin backwords as on the X-BOLT The only thing that turns is the "pin", it doesnt unscrew or screw for that matter. It just GOES AROUND........ I've searched online, but its always X-bolt and have not found any "A-bolt disassembly-video" Mickey
Some of the online info I've been reading say that the Browning AB3 is the same as the Winchester XPR but these look completely different in the trigger system. What's the relationship?
One of these in my LGS and I really was tempted to buy on the spot, but that slop in the bolt turned me away... is it a real issue, or just something that comes with the price point?
Plastickey kind of stock? That must be a technical term? Could that be "Indicative" of the quality of the rifle? Hopefully Browning screwed the barrel in to the receiver true, unlike the BLR rifles they were producing back in the 2010's.. Just saying,.. When you mount a high quality scope , base & rings on a rifle and you run out of windage adjustment on several examples tried,. I have to wonder about their QC.
If there is one thing I hate, it is a plastic trigger guard. Also, plastic mags get brittle in alaska winters, and break, much like the triggerguard. Hard pass
The Human Condition the AB3 is the smoothest bolt action out of all budget rifles I’ve handled. Nearly as smooth as the x bolt. My 30-06 ab3 is very accurate.
Yeah super similar. Compare Ruger: www.huntinggearguy.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Ruger-American-Bolt-rear.jpg to Browning: www.huntinggearguy.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/bolt-open-1.jpg
Ab3 is junk I wish they still made the a-bolt II the bolts were smoother the triggers were nicer and everything wasnt polymer.. all over the a-bolt II was a nicer gun
I wouldn't say it is complete junk, since you can just simply replace the stock and trigger with metal counterparts with ease. And from what I have heard that the bolt would get smoother after use.
The flat magazine fits perfectly on my deer stand window! Makes a steady rest and good shooting! A bolt 3 is a great rifle! No rifle is perfect especially one sub 1K. You sound like a crybaby! I would like to know what you think is the perfect rifle for less than 1k?
All of these "value" (cheap) rifle reviews convince me to build another Savage 10/110/111 etc or Rem 700. In my winter climate, plastic gets brittle and breaks. Have been through a Ruger American, Savage Axis II, and a Mossberg Patriot, and a Howa 1500 with the Ammoboost mag sytsem, just hoping one of them has a magic plastic in the mag or triggerguard. No such luck. Avoid them for really cold hunts. Or just buy a $700 rifle, and save the expense and headaches of replacing the plastic crap with aluminum or steel.
My older brother's rifle is a Mossberg Patriot. And it has synthetic stock. I wouldn't say that all synthetic stocks are bad. Although replacing the stock and trigger with the AB3 is much simpler and easier than you think.
Wow you can't even say Fantastic trigger with a straight face lol all plastic trigger centerfire rifle .. really browning? Is this a pellet gun review? Lol
People have been saying this for over 15 years. Chuck Hawks has an article from 2006 where they talk about the Tikka T3 as being "plastic junk". Fact is, new rifles are cheaper in today's dollars than rifles were in those days in their dollars. That means rifle prices have beat inflation handily. Today's rifles are 1 MOA accurate or better and they don't come with horrible lawyer-ized triggers anymore. If you want to spend more on better quality materials, you can, but now anyone can now buy an accurate rifle that'll work fine for big game hunting.
in response to plastic plastic plastic= junk--have you actually looked and held the gun and SHOT it. if not, where did you get this opinion? i think i know, and it's where a lot of opinions come from...

Have you grouped it on paper? I don't see where he mentions grouping on this video. He does mention 1" on his article.
sandoval lavodnas at 100 yards i group .68 MOA
Randy Wakeman shot a few really nice groups with 140gr accubonds
I have been having hell with my 7mm RemMag. The first shot throws it 5 inches high and 4 inches right or left. Winchester xpr same gun as the Browning ab3?

Yeah, thanks Browning for a $50 magazine instead of a hinged floor plate that doesn't get lost or cost extra. (Sarcasm) added.
The hinged one, still had a crappie detachable mag the could get lost
@@robertboyd3863 the hinge plate broke on my 06 and cost me like 65$ for pot metal. The older version was nice for my 308 from mid 80's . Floor plate and hinge were steel

It actually cost more to fix it than to replace it.
I'll still take the magazine. Thank you Browning for offering a magazine when so many don't.

How accurate are those AB3'S with factory ammo???
That's what I'm wondering to
What scope are you using?
Do you think the plastic trigger/ trigger guard would break or fail in colder environments (northern Ontario) under normal use?
Some of the online info I've been reading say that the Browning AB3 is the same as the Winchester XPR but these look completely different in the trigger system. What's the relationship?
I'm guessing this rifle is a challenge to the Ruger American?
Good gun, great review!👍🏻👍🏻

no hearing protection?
+Yeah Bee i have ear plugs in. I find them more comfortable, especially when shooting rifles.
Thanks for the video!
Hi I also have an ab3 but the one with the flip down clip just wondering if you know if your type of clip model would fit mine
After about 50 rounds the bolt becomes exceptionally smooth. Take care of it and oil it up
Could you get them customized with open iron sights??
Question witch is high end rifle A bolt or X-bolt
The x-bolt is Browning’s top end model
What kind of oil do you recommend for the bolt?
Regular gun oil should work, that’s what I put on all my guns

Loved everything but the trigger. Too stiff. Replaced with Mcarbo . Shoots like a premium rifle now.
