- Welcome to another episode of Marathon Training in Kenya with Luis Orta! This year we bring you a ton of great new content from the Home of Champions: Iten, Kenya! In this season, we meet up with some of the huge groups that train together in Iten, joining them on long runs, medium long runs, fartleks, track workouts, easy runs, and more! We have some special guests, including Olympic medalist Paul Chelimo who was born and raised in Iten.
In this episode, we join up with a large training group of about 40 Kenyan runners from around the region for a Long Run on the infamous “Boston” route. We’ll learn more about the culture of the Kenyan runners, see how the coaches support the crew, and watch the guys push a 3:25/km pace for up to 40 kilometers and still be back home in time for morning tea and chapati.
Thanks for watching!

I can't even run 1 km at this pace haha, they make it look so easy with mouth closed, truly amazing....
same, my pr for 1k is 3.59 and that was on a slight downhill aha
There is a ton of people way faster than me, that’s how this sport goes! We just have to focus on being better than yesterday! Keep it up 🙌🏻
I can easily run under 3min but it would be my full effort
@@yourstepdaddy4613 my full effort is 3.59, but I've only been running for 1 year. Hopefully will start improving soon
@@aregul12 running is all about consistency
Even i was in your place at past
Never give up
Being an ultrarunner, who normally do longer (and a lot slower) distances, this looks like heaven. Sometimes i join group runs with other people on a local track, and the energy of a group truly pushes you in a special way.
Ok?
I'm kinda jealous of them (in a good way). They make running looking so easy. Running in such a big group seems so awesome. And they all seem so humble and down to earth. Really inspiring!
Running with a group is the best, gives you a rush for sure🙏
My goal is to reach 4:00/K
You people are doing 3:30/3:25 😂
People don’t realise how insane this is! You people keep grinding, you’re the best 🔥
Good luck!! It's crazy how fast those guys are in Kenya
@@ortaluis Thank you 🙏🏽 Keep releasing for us running motivation videos. You’re by every measure doing the Lord’s work.
Haha I did 4.00 in my good days. Can't imagine that pace😅😅
@@cliffinhokisero3747 plus they’re doing it for several kilometres. Beasts.
I see my brother there, David kogei, thanks for sharing this; thanks for what you do for these athletes!🎉🎉
Amazing, they are all great 🙏
Physical specimens of intergalactic conditioning. Just awesome to observe. I can't help but feel inspired.. keep going fellas!
Every run I go on now I get inspired thinking about how these guys train!
@@mtn_techne me too, although I am what they call "a masters runner" a runner who still runs after 40. I can still put up good mileage but I marvel at these elite conditioned athletes
Beautiful and inspiring video, Luis! It's great to see you running so strong and being so comfortable at that pace, and I love the positive, supportive atmosphere of the run. Keep pushing!
Thank you means a lot!
It’s unbelievable how many talented runners there are over there to keep up with you, Luis! Love hearing about a route named after Boston too :)
I know it’s an amazing magical place!
tbh, there are more but some have to concentrate on school and others on supporting their families. That is life anyway and there are many challenges across the world. But I can confidently say there are more better runners out there. Motivation and discipline is key and that is why you have a constant crop of good athletes from there.
The energy is amazing
Thanks for watching!
Masungu you are strong my guy. Am beginning to be obsessed with my long runs too. Thanks for being a good friend🤝🏾
I'm enjoying his channel/videos now...a world beyond shitty tiktok reels...elite athletes like these are so pure by heart ❤
damn the way he described the driver that's pure respect bro!
Thank you, appreciate it! 🙏
Would love to see what recovery post run looks like!
They are coming in the next few episodes
Thank you Luis! So glad to have found your channel. It’s so motivating!

These videos are brilliantly put together. Very Unique insight on Kenyan culture

Thank you so much! We appreciate you watching!
legends say they still running.... 🎉
That's called group power 👌👌👌
I love your videos bro! You inspire so many runners out there! Keep sharing this content because it’s not only the gateway into running its also a gateway into the life of and culture of being an athlete of this calibre! 💪💪💪
Thanks for watching, means a lot!
Thank you so much for watching!
I bet it's amazing running with a bunch of other people. I don't have any friends and running alone all the time is really discouraging, it's pure self-motivation, and as we all know, you can only be self-motivated for so long.
that’s so sad to hear, same situation here buddy, i hope you”ll find some to run with.
Best wishes from Croatia💜
Same here but I have a dog, running with him is great for my pace!
I keep myself motivated with the thought of finding a group one day
You need discipline to succeed. Not motivation
@@urangkita290 You right discipline is the best way to succeed. But if you want to keep discipline, you have to find out why you want running so often.I mean find out a great motivation to keep going and never give up ! :)
I really appreciate your work, Luis. God bless you.
Incredible. They make it look so easy
I can only maintain a 6:30 over 4 miles.
Theyre running 5:30 min/mi, practically at marathon length
Just casually saying a full long intro while running faster than speedy gonzales and still catching his breath? That man is not human, he is next level
haha, thanks Luna!
😂

I run really slow compared what you are doing but you are motivating me to run and it’s possible to progress in every moment 👍
UR ALL AWESOME BROS
Thank you for watching!
Great video! What are you eating during these intense training months?
Just coffee pre-workout, then we’d have eggs, fruit, tea and some pancake sort of things for breakfast. Lunch was usually rice and lentils, fruit. Dinner was rice, some sort of meat, soup, and some veggies. The HATC camp we stayed at provided all of the delicious meals!
Luis orta best player of running
Thanks man!
Kenya looks beautiful

Excelet, you are the best
Thank you!
Amazing work Luis 👏🏾
Thank you 🙌
I like Kenyans long run 😍
Yea me too!
impressive
Thankss!!
Be really keen to know what are the HR range for all of athletes. Insane they can keep that speed for so long
wouldnt be suprised if it was 150-160 range for these guys
No idea i usually don’t check
Check out some of the Season 1 workouts, we add screenshots of Luis’s training data from his watch, I’ll bet some of those show average and peak HR
@@mtn_techne doubt it’ll be accurate unless he wore a HR strap
@@JonniChin I guess that’s why most of the pros and Kenyans don’t really monitor their HR
What watch do you use?
Coros Pace 2
Great run, really amazing. What was your average heart rate? Thanks.
Not sure I usually don’t check

thanks Luis orta
Thank you for all the help Kandi!
My first time to run the longest marathon was 26 km in india Manipur senapati district Olympic held in 2022 n I completed by ( 1hr n 7 minutes) damm exhausted soiling of my leg ... but 30 km shock me.
don't lie... 26 km in 1 hour?🤣🤣🤣🤣 might be 10 hours..
Ran 2x2km 3:30/km in training today. You are beasts 😳
Good job! haha thank you
How come you guys running in jackets? Any reasons?
My dream is one day to have a camp there but I am not sure how it works. I want to train on the red Kenyan soil.
Let’s do it I have one happening in September if you want to join me all the info is on this website www.runningmecca.com
Awesome run nice experience as well hope you achieve your goal and keep up the good energie
Thank you, means a lot!
🤙🏼❤️
Hey Luis, do you ever feel like there is a point where you no longer get faster but you are just "maintaining" what you have already?
Definitely, sometimes it gets super challenging to break your threshold once you get to a certain pace
Great video once again!! Would be nice to visit in Iten thought I'm slow runner, also I'm not 100% sure if my exemption letter will pass me at immigration but it will be soon I know 😇
Join us in our next camp, everyone all ability levels are more than welcome!
@@ortaluis how long you will stay this time? I suppose to get to Kenya at the end of June.
Proud of my father..
🙏
Gold question what do you eat before morning run ?
Bread, fruit and coffee 🙏
Olá Luís.....Is Dangerous run on the road at Kenia?
really awesome! I'm running my intervals with 4mins/km but everyone has it's own goals and level.
Thank you for watching! Very, true the race is always with ourselves. Keep it up
Hugely informative. Keep up the great work! Una cosa, 30-60 before sunrise is nearly always the coolest part of the day so that’s the best time to run, especially if you don’t have to go to an office/work 9-5 after. 👍
Pero 13-15C do you need a jacket/ long sleeve when you run 3:30min/km?
They say it’s because many East Africans feel the cold easily and they take of layers to put in the van is this right? Un abrazo.
Thank you! Yeah everyone runs with long sleeves there frequently, it gets chilly in the morning before the sun comes out for sure. We usually just finished the runs with the long sleeves tho!
@@ortaluis thanks Luis. Suerte con todo 👍
Show!!!
🙌🏻🙌🏻
Strong running 💪
Thanks man!
I live in 3500 msnm and My pace is 4min x km and finalicing in 3.20 x km, is progresive
