    My copy came in the mail - apparently originally from Germany.
    It was a fun Friday night romp and it committed to the 3D. No regrets here.

      Hey West, glad to hear you got some pleasure from this one. With the release of Mortal Kombat various people are asking the usual question of, "Could this finally be a good game-to-movie release?" The question of why they're (apparently) never any good goes all the way back to Super Mario Bros - and I think unfairly tends to usually overlook this fun little film. Cheers.

      @@3D_Blu-ray_Bunker we saw moments and choices in this film that we’d never seen before.
      It wasn’t always internally consistent and some elements were predicable while others were not at all. The production value was high, the acting was mostly good, and Michael Keaton got paid to hang out in a room on for about 30 minutes of scene chewing. What’s to hate?
      The work resignation scene made me laugh out loud.
      Oh and that shot of Keaton lair, from above, reminded me of you. Pretty funny that you’d called it out in your video.

    I was quite impressed with this title. Considering the 3D work is a decade old now, it's still impressive. The half dozen or so broken shots in 3D are a shame but don't ruin it, as you said. Great review

      I feel like I'm due a re-watch of this one. For some reason, I'm often drawn towards films that are generally disliked, and I don't think this one's particualrly well remembered - even among 3D fans, where it really shines, which is a shame. So, glad to hear you enjoyed it it too. Cheers.

      Well, I really rate it; I'm not sure everyone agrees though. Maybe I kept in mid what a afterthought/rushjob the conversion was, but I do think it's a very good one. These days Go Find Fun is my go-to guy for 3D reviews: His are by far the best I've seen, intelligent & insightful, and he puts way more effort into his images than I ever did/would and has an understanding of stereo that puts every other 3D reviewer in his shade.

    • @WaverBoy
      @WaverBoy ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Apples and oranges, my good fellow. He’s great, I do enjoy his reviews, but you’re also great, and I love the way you talk about 3D films and your particular observations. You’re at least as vital to the 3D video review scene, and very sorely missed.

      @@WaverBoy Ah, you're too kind. Also have a look at The 3D Dinosaur if you've not already seen his unorthodox method of using TH-cam to promote his reviews. He also is one of those 3D reviewers who really puts thought into how the 3D works with the film to tell the story, rather than the usual, "There are some great pop-outs!" Here's my opinion: A majority of film fans and film makers think 3D is a gimmick for kids and idiots. One of the (admittedly many) reasons it's always ended up disappearing for years/decades is because almost all discussion surrounding the format is treated like that's exactly who it's for - sadly, even among its fans. I mean, I AM a kid (in his 50s, but at *heart* a kid), and definitely an idiot, but I do passionately believe that 3D is much more than a tool to wow or "make you feel like you're there", etc. One day, the world might catch up with us...

    You never know what you're going to learn in a day. I did not know about Brian May's enthusiasm for stereography. Ashamedly so as a guitar player who admires his playing, a hobbyist stereo photographer, and as someone with a keen interest in physics (Brian May is a legitimate physicist complete with the requisite degrees). I say ashamedly so because with the other interests we have in common I feel I should have known more about the fellow.
    Another well done video. Looks I Need For this to be in my collection. Missed it upon release. Cheers.

      You are definitely in tune with old Brian on all of those fronts: If you're also an astronomer and love badgers you could stand in for him when he's on holiday! Brian's a *massive* 3D fan: Any 3D photo you've seen of Queen would have been taken by him. He's published several 3D books, all definitely worth a look, have a look on Amazon. I'd especially recommend A Village Lost And Found as I love old stereos from the 1800s, and his most recent one about the moon. I went to a lecture he gave about it last year, excellent bloke.
      All of the aforementioned is a little bit high-brow compared to Need For Speed, of course. It's dumb, but I thought fun, and certainly a 3D treat. Thanks for watching, all the best.

    When I first began collecting 3D blu-rays I listened to many reviews, including this one, looking for "essential" films to track down. I'm not sure how, but I somehow got the impression that this was a complete letdown regarding the 3D. So it wasnt until recently that I finally watched it and wow, what a treat! I'm almost glad I mistakenly slept on it as, with fewer and fewer titles left to see, it nice to have a real gem amongst all the other bottom shelf caliber 3D that seems to be remaining.
    Also, I've just started taking note of conversion companies, as many of my favorites seem to have come from Stereo D. Do you have a personal favorite amongst the conversion houses?

    • @3D_Blu-ray_Bunker
      @3D_Blu-ray_Bunker  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Zag, glad to hear you had fun with this movie. Not sure if it qualifies as a "guilty pleasure", but I really enjoy this film, and think its 3D is great. I think you're right, Stereo D seems to be the more dominant conversion house, I think there are only a couple of other big ones, DNEG and Legend 3D. And I think sometimes all three of them do work on a movie. I've always assumed that they use very similar software & techniques, and a lot of the final quality is down to how much the studio budgeted for the conversion, and how suitable the material is to work in 3D. My main hope is that the skills they've been developing and learning don't get forgotten as 3D falls away from favour.

    I’m going to have it say average 3d with a few gems made better by astonishingly good framing and awesome action. I just wish they could have give the main character a better motivation for causing / being involved in so much collateral damage - made it hard for me to root for him when the characters were those who make really bad decisions and those who make even worse ones. But thanks for the review - average is still worth while 3d especially for this one.

    • @3D_Blu-ray_Bunker
      @3D_Blu-ray_Bunker  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I mean, I'm not saying it's a "good" film as such! But I do think it's a lot better than those F&F films, especially as it uses old school real cars doing real stunts, which I love. The 3D in this film is a type that I react really well to, lovely solidity and some really creative stuff but, admittedly, I wouldn't use it as a 3D demo disc.

Along with some excellent 3D in it, this gets a definite recommendation from me. I mean, it's rubbish - but it's great fun rubbish.

    Delighted to find your positive review of this film as I ordered it last week as I am plugging in the gaps in my 3D collection and had been putting off purchasing this as I suspected it would be dire. I now wait delivery with great expectations. Regarding Brian May, I commented on his web site about lack of a 3D version of Bohemian Rhapsody. How much to do a conversion? £10m?. Nice project for Brian May and Roger Taylor to invest in - especially the 20 minute Live Aid version which is present as a Bonus on the 2D disc.
