Template Template is actually the same model used for testing the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy! You can see it in the alpha footage for the game where he's completely orange.

You know, legitimately… I’m so intrigued. We Skylanders Fans have been so lost, that I’m hype for a leftover template character.

They say Swap Force has 16x16 = 256 "swapabilities", but that's just the toy. Considering that top & bottom each have two paths, which each play quite differently, that's really 32x32 = 1024 play combinations. Add in TT, which doesn't have any real path choices, and that increases to 33x33 or 1089 play combinations !

That’s completely false, it’s 16 parts x 16 parts, 16 legs and 16 bodies
@@bitbybrix247 Yes that's the number of physical Swap combinations. But remember each of the 16 bodies has two paths, making 16x2 = 32 play options for the top half. Same for the legs / bottom half. So it's 32x32 ways to play in Swap Force. Add in Template Template, that makes up to 33x33 ways to play in-game.

Huh, this was neat. The fact Template Template actually loaded into some of the later games is quite interesting, and you figuring out why he didn't work in Imaginator's main mode is neat. This was a pretty interesting video, and the edits were solid, the Meet the Pyro bit was excellent, nice stuff.
Technically if you were to give him a profile picture he work fine
Pretty nice guess, though he has Stink Bomb's icon when used in the main gameplay as well, so it is likely something else with the summoning sequence that breaks the game when he is used.
The Meet the Pyro bit was brilliantly edited. So many people put so little effort into edits like that.
Template Template is certainly the character ever, Coders were coding, Artists were arting and Testers were testing

So I think he was originally a tech tornado swapper but then magma charge replaced him, this is proven by his attack that makes him spin, his battle mode introduction shows the tech element behind him and then when he wins magna charge shows up, so I feel like it’s a fair enough assumption
can't wait for the "Can you beat Skylanders: Swap Force with only Template Template?" videos.
I did not know there was a still a fandom left for Skylanders, and I'm super here for it. The more videos I get in my recommended the more I keep watching and actually really enjoying, I am genuinely fascinated and cannot tear my eyes away.

I find that it if I don't add memes or edits into videos I actually might go crazy, I guess once a meme poster, always a meme poster. Also i plan on doing some more stuff like this when I get a chance. I think exploring ssa xpecs debug menu might be a video I do next

i would love to see some skylanders swap force "hard mode" challenge runs that use this guy. since he cant do any damage he basically limits you to only the top or bottom of whichever chosen swap skylander you use. I think that could be super entertaining.
This actually has me wondering, since Template Template exists and can be scanned could it theoretically be possible to mod the game into “back porting” Skylanders from newer games into Swap Force or create new characters all together?
Other than that random question this is a really great video, I am glad this was in my recommended as I honestly am kinda glad that people still care about this series.
It should be possible. New portals are compatible with older games too (minus Trap Team since you need the Gimmick there acessible). And some things such as vehicles are not really the best if not designed around that.
@@domicraft6341 Yeah that would be an issue, the only possible way to add the Trap Team gimmick would be to make them individual figures, and vehicles would be a no-go for the Vanilla game but if anyone ever wanted to mess with modded stages it could be a fun one off thing.

They haven’t added anything. Template Template was always in the game, just unusable.

I never actually knew there was a placeholder Skylander for Swap Force however this made me think if there is possibly a unused or placeholder version of the imaginators or any of the other versions of Skylanders

Gotta be honest I think Trap teams had the best gimmick, with swap force i almost never swapped because i liked having the characters as they were originally. I also just love the traps in trap team and how the villains would speak through the portal and just being able to play as the villains you fight was so cool.
16:13 I would assume they use the same naming conventions for the bones of each skylander's skeleton throughout all of the characters and games, so that they can use the same animations for all characters if needed.
My theory is that they made a rule in the game's code that said "If this character don't have a specified driving animation, then use this default animation".
Would save them a lot of time with all the older characters from before super chargers.

I'm curious about what template template would look in imaginators switch, idk if they still kept him in but if he's able to load into the switch maybe we'll get some interesting results

Looking over things, it has fire when summoned, but tech when put in PVP
So its obvious they were a template to test out swapping, and to use as reference for all new functions, but in theory that means its far easier to mod custom swap force characters, and just replace them, as their moveset is plain
Losing textures when swapping is a sign that it was still needed to check if they could swap, but likely not needing to confirm if its the correct swap, as that code already existed, leading the knowledge that it was first coded for another device
As you said for superchargers, although likely there was a template vehicle to test with him, to see if it would recognise them together even if its from an older game, as well as being the animation base for NPC racers, which means making custom characters there should be easy, but custom NPC will be easier ones
For imaginators, it does have a placeholder image, i know as sometimes when it takes too long to load, it can also show it, its just a black circle on my copy however, but otherwise its usually blank, the more likely reason is the fact in superchargers, a supercharger is as simple as a small addition to code to state it is one and which vehicle
but Imaginators has the Sensei, which he is likely also tagged as, but because he doesnt have a class or element, nor would it have a template move to assign to an imaginator class even if given one, so races default it to a sensei that is earliest in the game registery, but cant be run without getting the missing parts assigned
all of what i said is just guessing based off my skills and background in coding however, using that i can also assume hats would likely work fine, although they may sit in the wrong spot depending on the hat or game, but stats wise fine, they also probably would trigger either placeholder lines when calling for a name in other circumstances, or as with the final games race mode, Registery of matching type 1
if anyone read all of this, first off thats some serious either curiosity or boredom, i likely wont say anything more useful on this, nor am i being 100% on any of it, so dont assume im spreading false info in turn doing it yourself, if you want to test my theories, it has been stated a video was made with the NFC code and how to use it exists and you can mod the games yourself to see what other tags and such the games belive this character to have, with that, thank you

I'd actually like to see someone mod Template Template to have an icon and upgrades along with his move set dealing damage, maybe with voice lines if they're actually up to the task, I honestly want to see him get more use as an actual character and be someone to break the forth wall more frequency than any other character.
This video brought back a wave of repressed memories! I used to play skylanders with my little brother and I'd always main trigger happy, he could actually be pretty op if you did stuff right from what I remember
Fun fact I own every Skylander in every game but imagine being a young boy when the first came out and begging the parents to buy it when he was full price and nowadays you can get it on eBay for $0.10 God I love my childhood

The only reason he doesn’t deal damage is cause he too powerful and he want to spare the enemies.
I kind of want to see the Skylanders made into a Skylander like use a similar attacks who knows maybe the slapping can be like a combo hit thing, but I just think it would be cool to see given actual element an actual swap force ability

its been along time since i saw something that blew my mind from skylanders.
skylands was once my home durring my childhood. but ever since the last of imaginators, i sorta whent on and off.
sometimes i would go back playing trap team or superchargers, even giants.

I can't believe I learned something new about my favorite Skylanders game. Also, it's going to be 10th anniversary of that said game this year.
Template template looks like he was made during the time when swap force was still called shape-shifters. Then again, it could just be his body structure
this brought me back memories for the mobile version of skylanders trap team and i am sad that the app is no longer on the app store amd yet i still keep the portal thing plus the trap crystals in my closet but i bet there is gonna be a new game that should bring the franchise back to life i hope
In arena mode you could also use Ghost Roaster and have him use ectoplasm mode untill his health reaches 0.

I’d love for somebody to like go in and rewrite the code for template template, and since there is no dark or light swapper he can just be the first one or people can just make template template have all the elements and they can make him actually do damage and make him do the goofy little face

Here’s some ideas i came up with for a hypothetical “completed” Template Template:
His gimmick/gimmicks would be fire attacks and extending his limbs. Fire cuz of his placeholder element. And the limb extention from his Goofy expression and Eyebrow growth
As such the paths would be based around this. One path allowing for an emphaiss on Fire and Damage and the other gives him emphasis on Limb extention and range.
Also in this hypothetical i’d want him to have his climb ability, the funny boy deserves it
I wanna note that i’m not the most well versed in Skylanders. Im getting back into it recently after playing it as a kid years ago. So i could be wrong about certain things or speaking nonsense, sorry if thats the case

Fun idea: 3d print a thing of him, put the nfc cards in it, (possibly carfully cut them) and add it to your collection as a new figure. As a base, because he has no element, a mini portal or somethn.
Swap force was my first skylanders game and I loved it so god damn much even though I only had the base set of swap force figures I thought they were awesome

Fun fact (don’t know if this was mentioned): if you don’t know swap force on the wii u has a screen on the gamepad where the skylander you use will have a picture of that skylander on the game pad. But if you use template template on the wii u his picture will just be a white square

Been a while since a new Skylanders video came out
I actually encountered this character during my SWAP Force stream. It was after completing Sheep-Wreck Island that trigger it.
It is not playable of course, but it did appear behind the result screen upon completing a level. I do not think it ever happened on the Wii U copy before.
I'd love more long-form content about skylanders in this style
