Welcome back to JuiceLabs! The boys are back with a movie suggested by our patron Meagan! Become a Patron! / juicelabs (TWITCH LINK) / belugasteel fabajuice peppah_jack
Fun fact: the El Royale was based on a real place called the Cal Neva Lodge and Casino - the story involves the mob, Frank Sinatra, Marilyn Monroe, and a prostitution ring. Fun (?) stuff.
The hotel is based off of the IRL Cal Neva lodge, which was owned by Frank Sinatra in the early to mid 60s. Because he was friends with the Kennedy family, JFK and RFK both stayed there, so it's probably one of them on the negatives. I know that you guys were saying that you thought it was JFK, but the timeline doesn't work. The film takes place during Nixon's presidency (early 1969, based off of the Nixon footage that dates to 1/27/1969) and after Myles was in Vietnam. Miles therefore couldn't have met JFK at the El Royale, so he probably met RFK in 1967 or 1968. This means that it's probably RFK on the tape.
It's interesting, but I personally actually like this film more than OUATIH. Something about how all the plots thread into each other, and the almost dreamlike/surreal quality to how the final act unfolds. To each their own, of course.
The priest's name is Donald O'Kelly, but his friends call him Doc. In the room four flashback scene, his brother Felix refers to him as Doc, as does his cellmate. The judge addresses him as Donald O'Kelly.
Drew Goddard has directed 2 films and they are 2 of my alltime favs..shame that this one flew so far under the radar that nobody has even heard of it despite the star studded cast

If you ain't seen it yet, this movie is a good appetizer for Once Upon A Time in Hollywood.
