To each his own, but never a car wash like this for my car. One of the pleasures of buying your own car is that you can make the best choice for you. The last new car I bought was in 1992, I still have it. I baby what I have to make it last - little things matter because they add up over years and decades. Thank you for the time and effort to produce this!
you should know that everyone is different. Some might have a home with a garage and a garden hose they can use. Others might live in a big city with no such luxury and have to resort to automatic carwash and IMO, there's nothing wrong with it and I think it's ridiculous that people are trying to make it seem like it's a taboo. sure, tesla is nice, but it's no buggati. People are going way overboard.
A really great video, Greg! You covered so many bases, but I really like the smell of the car wash's soap. I know that it's weird, but it's something that I look forward to!
I’ve had my Tesla for almost 3weeks and I’ve had so much anxiety about taking it through a car wash because of all the horror stories I’ve heard. But, this make me feel so much better.
I have a touchless car wash near me with 2 inner side rails while the machine is on the outer side rails and my Model 3 never bumps the rails. It is a touchless system with a sign saying Water Wizard 2.0 on top of the machine.
The touchless car wash near me has a underbody water wash as well, is it OK for my tesla model 3 to get a underbody wash ? . Right now I am washing it on the driveway.
I’m in Cape Coral and I saw your video was at the gulf coast town center! Nice to see someone from around the area sharing some Tesla tips. ❤ I’ve been thinking of going to mister car wash as I do it for n my cord explorer xlt white. I’ve had no issues with it but scared to take my model y. As you said it’s a time saver and I’d be able to go more often /: thinking of trying this especially now with car wash mode
My tesla got a blown drive unit after having a hand wash! Guys that washed it used water jet pressure under the wheel arches, 2 days later drive unit failed. Replaced under warranty but took 2 weeks
Thank you so much for this video, i was really concerned automatic car wash would damage the paint. I park my car in drive way under a big tree so its gets dirty so i used to take my honda every other day for washing. Little worried about doing the same with tesla but your video gives me confidence I could
Great video, I liked it! However, NEVER use an automated car wash which isn't touchless. The Tesla Model 3 manual states on page 196: "If washing in an automatic car wash, use touchless car washes only. These car washes have no parts (brushes, etc.) that touch the surfaces of Model 3. Using any other type of car wash could cause damage that is not covered by the warranty. " Teslas are known for their soft paint. If I use an automated car wash, I only use touchless machines like LaserWash. I highly recommended it if you want the convenience of an automated car wash and while protecting the paint from swirls.
I have only taken my M3 through the car wash one time - touchless -- and it discolored (rainbowed) the black trim around the doors. Never again. The Tesla tech said it's because touchless car washes use soap that's a really high pH to get the bugs off without scrubbing and it discolors the trim. Who knew that would happen with only one wash? Ugh. I used Ethos on it and it did improve it.
Kinda pathetic that a light wash can ruin the car don’t you think? Why is it only Tesla cars you have be super careful with (and they’ll still break, chip, flake, swirl, etc. ) Pathetic excuse for a luxury(lmao) vehicle.
Have u noticed issues with sensors or cameras at all with Tesla recommending not too ? Also since it’s been a year , how many washes now and everything still going well ?
Great question. No I haven't had any issues with the sensors or cameras. I've also still been going to the car wash every couple days so I dont think it's something to worry about.
@@ThatTeslaChannel appreciate that insight man ! I was literally looking for a video like this... someone with a model 3 that’s not new that’s been doing washes for a while in a car wash with brushes
@@ThatTeslaChannel I know they aren’t well known for having great paint quality but if I get three years out of it before I turn it back into Tesla that’s fine with me.
Cool channel. You looked familiar and I remembered I took your real estate photography course on Udemy. Small world. Getting my 2021 Model 3 next month! I'm in Florida too.
Right on! Small world is right, that's awesome. Congrats on the 2021 Model 3 next month, I'd love to hear your thoughts on it once you get it. It's been hands down my favorite car to own, so I imagine you will like it too. Talk soon, thanks for the comment Karim!
Well it is now 2023 and they have a car wash mode that sets up to get the vehicle washed. They have a fold mirrors and put in free roll within the car wash mode menu. Surprised you are worried about water getting in the lights. Must not be very good in the rain either. I see no problem hand washing the Tesla during the summer, but I have no good provisions to do a good washing of the vehicle in the winter weather. So a car wash will be for me, at least for the wintertime.
I never get my Tesla washed with those dirty brushes. You should only do a touchless carwash and dry the car afterwards with a microfiber cloth. Keeps the car brand new.
Neutral is all you need for the car wash. Rumor is that you could even leave it in drive and stay in roll mode (I havent tried it but technically it should work).
From what I've heard the issue with non touchless car wash is if the water is recycled then there could be dirt on the brushes or in the spray water that could cause scratches. But great video
Some car automatic car washes want you to not ride in your car, because they fully vacuum the car first. My Model 3 will go into park once I open my door. What is the solution? Just go to a different car wash? Thank you so much, Greg
I always handwash a car no matter what to prevent the car's clear coat from getting scratched especially if the paint quality is already notoriously bad in quality on a Tesla.
The rotating brush will leave shallow scratches all over the car. You can't really see them from far away but they are visible from 6 inches from the surface.
The car will look nice and clean but the bristles that make contact with the paint will cause damage that will show up over time. The finish will become duller and fine lines can be seen in the sun. I don't recommend automatic car washes.
Are you sure about the tire thing? Another car wash just down the street from me has these instead of plastic guards images.app.goo.gl/XhnMsd17CUkSKAJN9
@@ThatTeslaChannel Those look incredible and would not damage any type or width of rim. My carwash can only take tires that are not so wide that they would get stuck between the inner and the outer plastic covered guide rails.

Never ever take your Tesla through a car wash. The rims can easily become damaged by the steel tracks. If you don't have the time to wash it on your own, find a reputable detail mobile unit to come out To your home or place of employment to clean your Tesla. Way too much of an investment to run it through a car wash.
Bad idea to recommend a car wash. For me and my Model X my goal is to never take it to a car wash shown in this video. I much prefer to wash by hand using my foam canon. But if during the winter months I needed to go to a car wash it would definitely be a hand only car wash. Enjoy!
No worries Rich. The book "Rich Dad Poor Dad" changed my perspective on this :) A youtube video summary may summarize the concept (they use cutting your own grass in the example in the book). If you get a chance to check it out, I think you may see hand washing differently :)

Given the lousy paint job on Teslas, daft to use this type of car wash.
Why not just put it in car wash mode❓
tesla require special car wash settings
Nope, the warranty recommends touchless but nothing special you need to do to the car settings wise.
if you have uni color it will destroy the paint for sure
