The Best Pastelon/Puerto Rican Lasagna

Try this sensational Pastelon/Puerto Rican Lasagna recipe. We do not use pasta for the layers. Check out the video to see how it's made!!!

Pastelon Ingredients:
1. (8) ripe plantains
2. (3) eggs
3. (3) pounds of ground beef chuck (you can use less meat or any type of protein)
4. (24) ounces of shredded mozzarella cheese
5. (8) ounces of cheddar pepper jack cheese.
6. (8) ounces of tomato sauce
7. (3) tablespoons of salad olives with pimentos
8. (2) tablespoons of minced garlic
9. (4) tablespoons of sofrito
10. (1) chopped onion
11. (1) chopped green bell pepper
12. (3) tablespoons of chopped cilantro
13. (1) tablespoon of adobo
14. (1) tablespoon of garlic powder
15. (1) tablespoon of onion powder
16. (1) envelope of sazon
17. (1/2) tablespoon of black pepper
18. (1) teaspoon of salt
19. (6) ounces of water
20. non stick spray
21. oil for frying ( i used vegetable oil)
22. 9x13 baking dish
23. aluminum foil
This pastelon looks so good it makes me want to cry for nostalgia reasons alone....Some people just don't know how wonderful
puerto rican food really is.....This is one of those dishes that screams Puerto Rico to me....Wonderful video!....

I love Pastelon! I'm making it for the first time on Saturday for an International Dinner my Church is having and I like your recipe better than the other videos I've seen. It looks simple and very similar to making lasagna (which I'm great at) I'm mixed with Puerto Rican and Italian so, I got this. Thanks to you and your video I feel more confident about making it. Yes - my friend’s husband was from Puerto Rico & he made this dish for me with string beans!! And it continues to be a very special dish for me me!! The taste is fantastic!! I’m from Guatemala & I love Guatemalan food but this dish is right up there!!

Wow pard', that looks absolutely DELISH! And a BIG thanks for a little trip down memory lane for me as well. I grew up back in the 60's in the rather colourful neighbourhood of Newark, N.J. And one of the advantages (IMHO) was the absolute diversity of the nationalities represented. Especially in an area referred to as 'Down Neck'. I as a young kid got to spend time at many of my friends houses playing and naturally staying for dinner (families back then would insist). I had many Puerto Rican friends and Pastelon' was served fairly often. I enjoyed the HECK out of it then, and to be honest, had forgotten all about it till I stumbled across your video! Being as I'm now retired I have embraced and become my own 'chef' of sorts and will now add Pastelon' to my menu! TY. As an aside, the recipe is quite alike the recipe for Picadillo, only substituting the 'sweet' of the raisins in Picadillo with the 'sweet' of the plantains in the Pastelon'...a perfect union. : - )

Well, my pastelon was a hit in my home today. Checking my blood level the next day wasn't too bad. However, for me, it's a one-time meal for the week. But yummy 😋.

I have never heard of this dish and I have been cooking since I was 12 years old. I started cooking Professionally when I was 17 at a BBQ restaurant in Atlanta GA. And I got tired of eating BBQ after a few years, so I became interested in trying different Cuisines. Mexican, Indian ( One of my personal Favorites.) , Jamaican, Thai, Ethiopian. What Excites me the most about this dish is that I have Never Heard of it until about 10 minutes ago, and Now I Must try it. But I would Probably make it Spicier, Hahahahahahahaha 😂!!!

Yes is very tasty I have cook it spicy and is awesome, i have serve it in my caterings and people love it , believe me is totally different cooked with fried plantains, which is the real piñon , boiled is stuffed plantains

I would put Garlic paste. Instead of garlic powder it brings out the flavor so much better I love to put tomatoes paste

Cutting plantain hack… lay peeled plantain on its side, lay large knife flat on surface, from one tip of plantain to the other SLIDE knife through, the distance difference between the Cabo / handle of the knife & the blade (varies depending on type of knife you have) will determine the thickness of the slices, you’ll get 4to 6 slices which will be the same thickness, assuring they cook evenly.

Look up Goya sazon and Goya sofrito. Those will get you started. Then you can learn to make your own fresh sofrito but the Goya will do just fine

Hola, con todo respeto, eso es un piñon porque el plátano es frito , pastelòn cuando el plátano es sancochado, lo de la lazagna es un disparate, la lazagna es un plato italiano a base de un fideo largo y plano del cual deriva el nombre. Igual no hay lazagna de pana ni de berenjena, ni de papa con excepción de berenjena que se llama berenjena parmesana, los otros son pastelones.. Chef Arturo, he servido este plato en sus dos versiones, tenía un. “Catering” y la gente prefería piñon a pastelòn, los dos son deliciosos.
