  • Not too long ago I experienced the pain that is grinding to level 99 with Sora and Riku in Chain of Memories. Since nobody has made an in-depth analysis of the best way to go about the grinding I took it upon myself to do so. This is the first half of the result of my research.
If you're in a hurry (or just simply impatient), then I've put markers to the different sections of the video, in the start of the video. To get the bare essentials I recommend watching the "Technique" and the "Result".

Just finished this, I started from level 50. I must say, this is definitely the worst trophy of the bunch by far. Grinding enemy cards without RNG manipulation took less time than this, and it was also way less repetitive considering that you were constantly jumping to new worlds so it at least changed the scenery a bit. Only way I was able to finish this was to only play an hour or so a day to prevent myself from burning out, or distract myself talking with friends on discord while I do it.
Regardless, I must thank you for this video. Not only did you probably save me 2+ hours doing it another way, but you also carefully explained the method and provided a lot of evidence to back up why this is best. I highly recommend everyone to do this method, even if you struggle to figure it out at first. You will most likely fuck up killing the last heartless on accident many times especially at the beginning, so stock up on like 10+ Strong Initiative cards just in case before beginning the grind. Once you get into the rhythm, it gets extremely mindless and you'll be able to zone out without messing up as much. If you don't plan on getting a Platinum trophy, don't even bother doing this lol. It's just not worth it. Towards the end I was starting to get extremely consistent without many fuck ups, and it still took me a MINIMUM of 8.5+ hours from level 50. You got to have some dedication. It sucks a lot, not hard at all, just extremely tedious. Good luck!

    Possibility B is actually easy:
_Stay on_ the first Shadow target in the middle (happens automatically at start of battle) and _don't_ move, then stock 3 cards - Riku will kill the first group to the right. Immediately Riku will switch to the Neoshadow to the left (again, _don't move),_ then stock 3 cards - Riku will kill the last group to the left. The next wave will appear right after, so leave as _fast_ as you can 🙂

For anyone who is curious, I calculated the EXP per second for group B using this method of eliminating the whole first wave using the formula mentioned in the video.
2 Neo, 5 Shadow, 2 Nocturne yields 1098exp, the average time to escape and enter a new encounter averaged out at 16 seconds. This makes the EXP per second for B around 68.6, making it theoretically the highest yield of the three spawns for Neoshadows. However, this isnt true every time, as this wave is the hardest to escape from, and you may end up using more time, but it's still better than than the 30 something exp/s method.
Edit: This value for B brings the overall EXP/s for Neoshadows to 67.86, and 62.02 for Red Nocturnes.

For possibility B, I found that if you run up to the middle shadow without moving left and right so you are in front of him and use a sleight you will kill the 3 shadows from the right, and both the red nocturne and neoshadow on right hand side. This leaves just 1 neoshadow, 1 red nocturne and potentially 1/2 shadows which can be killed with the second sleight if you use it at the exact time the first sleight ends without moving so you are targeting the final neoshadow alive.

I have found that doing the feeble darkness room gives about 13k per room and only has 6 enemies, took me less than 10 mins from 98 to 99 and that’s about 38k xp. Almost always the first neoshadow in the top and red nocturne on the left in the bottom to have the most waves of enemies and give around 3-4K exp per one of them but it could vary, u could do this same trick and escape so u don’t have to farm for feeble darkness cards in roulette rooms(even tho they are extremely comon in roulette rooms in castle oblivion) so getting 2-4K exp every fight. Found this way to be extremely fast. So if anyone needing to lvl give it a test and see if it helps.

I just wanna say great guide, but I don't know if you've said this in a later video, but in wave B, you can control how the fight goes, if you stock and use 3 cards at the start of the fight without moving from your starting position, you can kill 3 shadows, a nocturne, and a neo shadow all without spawning the second wave and you can leave with about 600+ exp if everything goes right. I believe the second wave is spawned you either kill two nocturnes or two neo shadows. So only killing one of each will not spawn the second wave

The biggest problem with grinding in this game is how steep the exp curve becomes the closer you get to the end. I'm almost finished with sora, I was 87 yesterday evening when I started and I stopped at 92. Just 5 levels in about 1h30m. And with Riku is obviously much worse because of no AOE attacks.

Possiblity c at 4:40 is best to go left to the red nocturne first so you leave the green requiem. Because the red nocturne can hit you while trying to escape. The green cant. This keeps your health up and escape guaranteed. If your health is low too Mickey drops at the beginning a lot so you can cast it to restock health since you can use it in a sleight without fear of killing it since it heals itself and you only have a low Mickey that he can break. I farmed 10 to 15 levels without worry of saving using this.

When I use strong initiative rooms, the spawns are lackluster in regards to exp because it tends to spawn much more normal shadows than neo shadows and with much less reinforcements.
The Lexaeus method definitely works...- when done correctly.
    So here's what I do:
I use only looming darkness rooms. These rooms provide the most neo shadows and reinforcements in battle.
There are NEVER normal shadows in any scenario in this room. If fighting hordes of neoshadows sounds tedious, keep reading.
Lexaeus card Warp break is a must for one simple reason: When in D mode, Riku's mid-air attack (the one where he spins) actually counts as a finisher.
This means you can potentially one shot anything with a single card. By sliding your thumb quickly from jump to attack, you can use the attack at an extremely low altitude and potentially wipe out the entire group in a single attack which eliminates the stress of lots of neoshadows and makes farming them more than worth it given their exp yield.
    (Darkballs, wizards, neoshadows
    = 269 exp)
You'll want to start off using lexaeus' card right off the bat. It's best to approach the group diagonally, as that is how Riku swings his sword, netting you the most hits on your first sleight.
just spam sleights to bring up your d-point meter while letting the 3rd swing potentially insta kill whoever it hits.
Once the mob is unstunned and freely moving, lure them to the corner to bunch them up real tight. This way you will hit more of them at once as well as prevent the exp gems from scattering, saving you time from having to run around fetching them.
With some skill and accuracy, you can already start wiping them out in groups before even reaching d-mode.
Keep in mind that the finisher of Riku's normal 3 hit combo actually reaches behind him so you might find it can catch more enemies than you think.
You'll want to avoid starting your combo directly in your target's face, as Riku advances a significant amount of distance with his attacks. If you're lining up enemies to warp, starting too close will cause Riku to pass the target and turn around, ruining your setup.
Come up with your own patterns for the start of each scenario.
Try to avoid starting sleights with 9's as these are your safest group killers using the d-mode spin. Most of them are near the end of the deck so that shouldnt be difficult.
Once in d-mode just go to town hitting jump-attack. The faster you attack after jumping, the closer to the ground you'll be, which will make quick work of the neoshadows.
The spin covers all around you and can be combod into additional spins assuming the neoshadows don't card break the second one (which won't happen if you use the "endless 9s" shortcut trick below.)
I often set the shortcut to the three 9 cards located at the bottom of the deck. That way, when I reach d-mode I instantly have 3 unbreakable spins at my disposal followed by the reload card.
This means I can endlessly spam 9s by pressing shortcut, using all three, reloading and pressing shortcut again.
Keep in mind that 9's are really only necessary for neoshadows.
Doing it this way, many of the battles yield well over 2500 exp, one of which yields 4515 exp.
How fast they go by depends entirely on your accuracy and the somewhat generous RNG of lexaeus' warp break.
Plus it's always satisfying when you manage to take out the entire group in an instant and watch all the exp burst out like confetti all at once. :]
That said, if you find yourself unable to reliably defeat the groups fast enough, DERIKUF's method is definitely a safer, more consistent method which leaves much less room for error.
    Hope this helps someone.
    *_Edited: removed errors._*

    • @DERIKUF
      @DERIKUF  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I've tried that method as well, and at least for me it was incomparably slow to my proposed method, but maybe I'm just not fast enough on my fingers. You talk about Rikus attack at 30 not being enough to oneshot enemies, but this video was filmed on proud mode. I'm guessing that you didn't strike them first to lower their HP maybe? You mention how Defenders will break the combo, but the whole purpose of this method is to get a very choreographed fight so that you can oneshot everything without ever having your combo broken. Anyway, thanks for sharing your thoughts :)

    • @Darkseany
      @Darkseany 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@DERIKUF well first off, I was completely wrong about one shotting them in Strong Initiative rooms. I guess I just wasnt actually striking first somehow.
However, after doing a bit more testing, I can confirm that the strong Initiative room is still not necessarily the most optimal despite it's reliability when compared to my Lexaeus method.
It's all about the room you choose.
First off, I retract my statement about teeming darkness. That room is not efficient enough. So do not use teeming darkness rooms.
Looming darkness however is a different story.
These scenarios often have 5 or more neoshadows, or a combination of darkballs and wizards, all of which yield 269 exp. Sometimes both.
The worst scenario is 2 nocturns, 1 wizard and 2 neoshadows. Which is honestly worth running from.
      But the best scenario contains
      6 nocturnes
      11 neoshadows
      2 wizards and
2 darkballs. That's 4515 exp in one battle that can be completed in around 30 seconds if done accurately and if RNG permits.
Though ~30 seconds is by no means "easy." It definitely takes some practice and a bit of luck.
Luring the entire group to the corner is very useful for this, as it increases the amount you kill at once, and keeps the exp gems from flying too far away, allowing you more time to fight rather than fetch the exp.
Sometimes even faster if you land a blow accurate enough to wipe the entire group, which is very possible. The speed is entirely relative to your ability to target the correct enemy and line up your attacks to hit as many as possible with a single blow and of course, RNG.
But let's bring it down to 4246 since we'll probably be leaving one alive in order to run away from the battle.
      For benefit of the doubt,
      At 35 seconds that's 121.3 exp/s
      At 45 seconds that's 94.4 exp/s
      At 60 seconds that's 70.7 exp/s
To be fair, this is the best and longest scenario.
But let's take a more mediocre one say, the scenario that starts with a circle of 5 neoshadows around you. Defeating those 5 as slow as 20 seconds still yields 67.3 exp/s. Though defeating those 5 neoshadows can be done much much faster.
And after defeating them, it spawns 6 nocturnes and a wizard.
But it's more efficient to just run at that point if your kill time is slow.
There are quite a few scenarios In looming rooms that yield well over 2500 and as I mentioned before, 1 or 2 that can exceed 4000.

@@DERIKUF it seems to me that while my method has the potential to be much more efficient, it relies on uncontrolled variables such as the user's ability and the RNG.
However in the hands of someone not able defeat the groups quickly enough, it would be far less efficient than yours.
Yours is a consistent, choreographed method that is far more accessible and has far less potential for stress and mistakes, making it a safer and more pleasant route for some players.
Mine on the other hand rewards well executed battles with far more exp/s, and punishes poorly executed battles with less exp/s.
Players who would prefer a more dynamic grind might prefer my method.
So really it seems to just be a matter of risk vs reward.
Cuz heck, I've had some runs where I messed up so badly that it took me a minute and a half to complete the 4246 exp scenario. And that would put it at 47.1 exp/s
Which is far slower than any of your exp rates.
I've revised my original post in light of this conversation.

I have to wonder why they even let you go up to levels past, say, level 70, since there’s no post-game or optional bosses in either Sora’s or Riku’s story. Those extra 29 levels just make it so tedious to grind for the Platinum trophy and you don’t even get any gameplay benefit from the extra HP, Dark Points, or Card Points at that point in the game.
That said, really good guide. Thank you for making it so that this can be somewhat less painful at least.

I was surpised how easy it was at such a low level.
Here is what I did. I spent a while farming cards in first world. Exp sucks there so you might hit like level 10-12 then the rest will come from boss fights. Use the cards you get to rush thru all of the rooms straight to the boss fights.
Each boss is pretty much the same, spam stock cards until you get DM, then go crazy on the boss going for dark aura if its available, duels make boss fights a cakewalk.
Riddlemaster took me a few fights to figure out but what you have to do is duel him nonstop, since your cards are terrible. His duel cards are bad so thats the way to go on him.
If you have any trouble on a boss just spam DM with Jafar from stocked cards and then Maleficient for clean up with regular attack cards once DM runs out.

Actually killing enemies in duel grants more XP, especially in D-Mode. You can get around 5000XP per encounter depending of how many enemies you manage to finish in a single duel blow. It sure takes more time to land the moves of course. So in a long term run, I believe this method still takes faster to grind Level 99.
