  • The Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV 350 4Matic is a large, luxurious cruiser, but this big German car has a tiny flaw, according to Gav. But considering his weird taste in cars, perhaps he's completely wrong? Tell him in the comments!
    If you're thinking about upgrading to an electric car, get yourself a wall-mounted charger in your garage like the one featured in the video: • Evnex E2 wall charger ...

    Can you imagine how many real buttons could fit on that screen? Screens are gee wizz thing that become a royal pain in the A very quickly.
    Another great review Gavin, thanks.
    I suggest you put another category in the spudscore - dealers. Here in Australia, our MB dealers would score 0/10. Proper privileged twats.

    Interesting, in Norway the EQE suv is a lot more expensive than the BMW iX, in NZ it’s the other way around. I went with the iX, it’s quieter, can tow more and has a bigger back seat.
    The hyper screen is a giant rip off, the standard screen is much nicer IMO. I don’t even think it looks good.
    If I was buying a new large SUV EV I’d buy an Xpeng G9, it looks good, the interior is world class, and the charging speed blows just about everyone else in the weeds, and it has a decent price advantage over its competition.

    • @jasoncatt
      @jasoncatt 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Plus the iX here has a much smaller battery, significantly lower range, fast charging is slower, AC charging at 11kW is half the speed of the Merc's 22kW, and costs almost $10k more. $17k more if you want the glass roof.
      And then there's the looks.... now I know that the Merc isn't exactly a looker, but at least its inoffensive, unlike the BMW, at least to my eyes.
      Xpeng isn't available here in NZ, not sure if or when that will change.

    • @MasterChief37
      @MasterChief37 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@jasoncatt there’s two different battery sizes for the iX. I have the 40. iX is more efficient than the EQE SUV, Gavin beat WLTP in his test. I’ve bettered it on road trips, the first I did I managed 468km.
      iX can charge it 22kWh, like the EQE you can only do this if you have 400v 3 phase power supply and a 32amp fuse. How many kiwi homes have 400v supply? Most new homes in NZ are still connected with single phase 240v supply. I’ve used mine with 22kWh at several destination chargers, unfortunately my home is old it has 240v single phase, I home charge at 7.7kWh maximum.
      I don’t see any different in the styling, neither will win a beauty contest, that said I see significantly more iXs then EQE’s in Norway. The iX interior is nicer, and for 3 kids has a much larger rear seat, the 4 USB ports are really useful. Being able to tow 2500km is also better than EQE. The other plus is I’ve never been in a quieter car than the iX.
      I looked at EQE, Q8 Etron, iX & Model X. In the end the iX was more bang for the NOK than the other 3 choices. The iX replaced an A6 Avant Quattro. We also have a Mini Cooper SE. Once you go EV it’s hard to go back.
      If the XPeng G9 was available when I was looking I would have bought it and saved a boat load of money, it’s that good.

    • @jasoncatt
      @jasoncatt 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MasterChief37 If the iX had been priced here as it was in Norway I would have considered it. The price difference for me just wasn't worth it though, for a car that was (subjectively) worse for my needs. I did seriously consider it, but couldn't justify it. Plus.... those looks....
      Does the XPeng come with all the annoying ding dongs that Nio seems to have?

    • @MasterChief37
      @MasterChief37 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jasoncatt not as bad, the issue I had when I drove it was the typical Chinese slow down for corners when using autopilot. The dealer said that will be sorted in a software update. If it was wearing a European badge it would be a best seller. 800v electrics 320kWh charging it’s a monster, it beats Taycan, Iconic 5, Etron GT.

    EV's are basically computers on wheels, there is a plethora of tech packed into them. My fear is that companies are going to lock features behind monthly subscriptions, Mercedes and BMW are guilty of this already

      A mate of mine bought the E-Tron. I got this one. For the money, the Merc is a much better car. It's a bespoke BEV rather than being based on an ice platform. It wasn't available when he ordered his Audi, but he says he wishes he waited now.

    • @jasoncatt

      That's my car in the video. We also own a Tesla Model 3 RWD. There's little to compare the two. The Tesla is a fantastic car, but there's a world of difference between the two. Somewhat akin to a Toyota Corolla vs a BMW X5. Yes, the Merc is double the price, but it's also a much nicer car.

      Same answer as the question: How can you justify that for one Tesla you can buy three Dacias?

    • @jasoncatt
      @jasoncatt 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@shaonian Definitely the Mercedes. The Tesla has zero "give" in the steering line chosen by the autopilot. If you try to assist it in any way to keep the line you want, it simply disengages. Sometimes it holds a line that's a little close to traffic on either side, but it won't let you hint by moving the wheel a little.
      The Mercedes seems to keep its position in the lane better, but if you feel like you need to adjust it, you can add a little pressure to the steering wheel to bring it to the line you want, without it complaining. Overall, its a more relaxing experience in the Merc.
      That said, the Tesla will handle a twisty road better than the Merc, but I rarely use the autopilot on either car on these type of roads.
