Interior designer Cheryl Luckett purchased her charming bungalow in 2007 and has transformed it into a sanctuary that beautifully reflects her design journey. Initially a registered dietitian with a passion for DIY projects, Cheryl's home has served as a personal laboratory where her skills evolved, leading to the creation of her interior design business, Dwell by Cheryl.
Cheryl's design style, which she describes as "Afro-Southern," is a vibrant blend of tradition, heritage, and history. Inside her bungalow, you'll find a harmonious mix of antiques and vintage pieces, layered with textures and textiles that celebrate her African roots. This global influence is artfully juxtaposed with traditional decor, creating a space that feels deeply personal and inviting.
Throughout the tour, Cheryl's home exudes warmth and personality, showcasing her love for classic, feminine details and cherished heirlooms. Every element, from cozy corners to thoughtfully curated art pieces, tells a story. Cheryl's bungalow is not just a house but a vibrant expression of her life, heritage, and design philosophy, making it a true reflection of who she is and the place she proudly calls home.

As a seventh generation African American with a family history that predates the Amerícan Revolution with a historical line of free people, I thoroughly enjoyed this Black tour with a nod to history, culture and lineage. Thank you 🌱
U are not black❤
I hear you…love that 😊❤

maddiek - Pay it no mind.
This was a joy to watch. Not only am I Afrìcan Amerìcan but I come from a storied lineage of free people from Granville County, North Carolina which is also why this video, its history and its North Carolina location also speak to me. It was my great pleasure to watch.
Love this comment! ❤️
She’s created a sanctuary. How beautiful she is.
Agreed! Her home is so comfy and warm. That dress is gorgeous against skin that is supple and attractive. Her features are beautiful. She’s a classy, pretty woman and her house reflects her.
She has given me a new appreciation for honey colored cabinets. I’m so glad she chose to keep them and compliment them with the perfect colors. Beautiful house, but even more beautiful spirit!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Agree! One of the best treatments I have ever seen for a kitchen with honey cabinets.
So good!!! Those cabinets shine with the way she designed around them!
@@lorrilewis2178agree
Agree!
She reminds me of Patty LaBelle‼️💜💜💜 I Luv her concept of decorating with things that telll a story 💯
I thought the same thing, the hairstyle was like Ms. LaBelle
@@ariel393939likewise!! Love her personality & style. Well designed thanks for sharing.
I said the same thing! She’s lovely and her home is beautifully curated. Her humility is pleasant.
I thought so too, the Patti look!
When I first saw her, I thought she was Patti LaBell.
Women of color has a style , colorful homes , and beautiful dresses , please more of them homeworthy
A baby grand piano is the most exquisite sculpture there is, said by someone who does not play! A lovely visit.
😊😊
Since Homeworthy does long format vids it’s nice when the homeowner has a high energy and can articulate their space to maintain interest throughout the process. Cheryl’s vibe definitely was echoed in her home. It was so nice to see how she brought all her visions together. Not crowded, not boring beige not IG same ole same ole. It was personal and perfectly her. Beautiful space. TFS!
Agreed! 💯
I really like watching TV while I’m cooking and sipping a glass of wine and don’t prefer an open concept home. Refreshing to see an interior designer who feels the same.
Me too I love watching TV and cooking sipping wine or just having a glass of wine after a long day of work and people don’t know that wine is good for you especially red wine😃🍷😃
I agree. I’m not a huge fan of open concepts. I know I’m in the minority but I predict we’ll look back on open concepts as trendy and boring.
Amen!
I absolutely don't like the" open concept." Every room needs a defined space."
I agree, not a fan of open concept kitchen.
I love this woman. She knows herself and her style. She illustrates “surround yourself with what you love and it will all work out!” Her home is personal and welcoming. Thank you for inviting us in. 🇨🇦
How she reworked the kitchen around these builder's grade cabinet is nothing short of spectacular.
I am a big Homeworthy fan, but I am excited about this particular showing because Cheryl is an old schoolmate. I am so proud of her and enjoy seeing how well she is doing. Her home looks fantastic. It is clear that she is talented and I am encouraged to see how her hard work is paying off. Congratulations Cheryl, I am over here cheering and clapping for you.
I'm so happy to see Cheryl featured. I've beenfollowing her for years. I love her interior design and personal style.
I don't usually care very much for designers homes, but I must say that your small home is decorated beautifully.
"I don't have an open concept Home...nor, do I want one." Same, girl. Same. I grew up in an open concept Home and purchased a 1945 Colonial Revival architectural style Home a little over a year ago. Separate rooms are BY FAR my preference. 🖤
Same! I have separate rooms and it’s so so nice. I think open concept makes a lot of sense when your kids are little and you need to keep an eye on them while being in the kitchen, but once everyone’s a little older I really like separate spaces for separate functions.
This lady is charm incarnate and her home is beautiful, she managed to match elegant and cozy perfectly 👏🏻😍
I do aporeciate Home Worthy showing this little gem. Cheryl did an Excellent job of mixing Afro with southern style. The difference patterns/colors she chose were bold and beautiful.
The front porch is inviting. The different patterns in the living room with the animal print, just blew my mind. I wouldn't have never thought of those color combinations, so beautiful. I also love all the art.
The black china cabinet really works in the dining room, it fits perfect in that space.
The kitchen is gorgeous, the blue and white, with touches of grey, along with white appliances. Covering the doors with upholstery was genius, I really like the Color of that, the TV cabinet, island, and banquet.. I would had painted the cabinets the same color. That is such a stunning color mixed with all the blue and white. But the kitchen is still gorgeous.
Love the bathrooms, and the main bedroom, all the colors and textures you selected. And your drop off zone by the back door is lovely. The wallpaper in this home is stunning. The backyard is beautiful, restful, and peaceful.
I hope you enjoy this beautiful oasis you created.
I came back, because I forgot to mention Coco, she is beautiful. I bet you two enjoy your cuddle time on the couch. I too have a Coco she is a toy poodle. I've had her for twelve years, since she was seven weeks.
Tfs
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Awwww another Coco! We are such a community-personal homes and a poodle! My girl Lolly is a 9 pound black toy. She approves all design decisions. ☺️
She is an absolute joy to listen to during the tour.
Love this! Not only is her home beautiful, but I could sense that she's created such a beautiful life for herself with the home playing a key role. Talented, passionate, and resourceful. Just wonderful! The story of her grandmother's collection and the thought of her smiling down from heaven brought me to tears, and the joy she shared throughout the video lifted my mood. I was having a stressful day, but I feel so much better now after taking a break to watch this. I swear, Homeworthy produces the best content on the internet!
Thank you & Coco to letting us visit you in your pretty bungalow ❤. Happy home!!
From one Charlottean to another, your space seems to really define you. It's so peaceful. A peace any visitor would appreciate.
The kitchen really reminds me of the 90’s with the warm colored cabinets and white appliances. But she made the right choice color scheme wise
I adore bungalows. No wasted space, cozy and everything a family truly needs.
What an absolute delight Cheryl is. Her home is a tribute to African American heritage. From the front yard with its curb appeal to the beautiful and cozy back yard, to the interior which is a perfect example of style, grace, sophistication, and charm. This is one of the best yet. Thank you Cheryl and Homeworthy
What an elegant lady. Your dress sense is wonderful, Cheryl. Your home is beautiful too! 🌸
Love her afro/country(as she mentioned)style and her beautiful cheery smile ✨
I’ve followed Cheryl on IG for years so it’s wonderful to see her beautiful home featured here.
I would love to follow her, would you mind sharing her social media info?
@@toshistokes9277 If you look in the description, her website and IG are posted there.
I absolutely loved this home. I started smiling from the front door and was not disappointed.
Yes to the Honey Oak Cabinets in the kitchen.👏🏽 I am not for the white kitchen trend. Beautiful home, Tfs!
This home tour felt like a visit with a family member! Cheryl has created such a beautifully layered, cozy home. It feels so intentionally designed, yet attainable! Adding this to my list of favorites for all the small living inspo. ❤
I really enjoyed this episode. I love the coziness of her home and the styling of it. The back yard is so adorable.
Well, Cheryl, your home is beautiful and it certainly tells a story and you are such a wonderful storyteller. Agree with you on life telling our story. Your home tells your story of warmth, vibrancy, art, comfort and so much more . Just such a joy...
I KNOW IVE SPOKEN UP ALOT ---BUT I CANT GET OVER HOW MUCH I AGREE AND CONNECT WITH THIS DESIGNER---IM A DESIGNER WHO HAS WORKED FREE LANCE FOR YEARS AND REALLY FEEL IVE MET A FRIEND----CRAZY BUT TRUE---THANK YOU FOR INVITING US INTO YOUR HOME😊
So funny-I feel the same! She is truly a GREAT designer-so smart, personal and in touch. I want to meet her!!!!!!!!!!
"Wouldnt this be a great time to learn to play the piano"😊😂, made me smile lol
Colorful, full and consistent. She has done well to make it her own. I love the bathroom shade, ceiling to floor shower curtains…patio and backyard.
Another wonderful episode. So many great interior design tips shared. How clever (and brave to not cave into peer pressure) to keep the honey coloured cabinets. The whole kitchen is a masterpiece. So much inspiration. Thanks for sharing.
Oh my goodness, this was like a really good movie you hated to have end! So many great tips, tricks and thought processes shared, thanks so much for that! Everything so well appointed and the personal style made my heart go pitter patter! All the great finds like they were "meant to be". Loved every minute!
Wow! Cheryl really utilized her space! I really really love what she did with her back patio porch. With the motorized screens that was perfection.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I too, am happy to see Cheryl on Homeworthy. Lovely home!
That African cloth that you had framed is called Korhogo, and it’s made in my husband’s West African homeland of Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast). The tribe that famously makes Korhogo are the Senufo. It’s all hand made. I brought several back to the U.S. over 30 years ago. I may still have a couple folded up. You paid a bargain price for your piece. Enjoy 🙌🏽
Love, love, LOVE her style! I'm really into these earthy colors lately. So much inspiration!! 🙂
I love the bungalow tours. This one is fantastic. And I’m glad she didn’t let male commentary on her television size faze her. 😄 That size is perfect for a bungalow and someone who’s not addicted to television. Thanks for sharing a lovely home so close to my (part time) cottage in Greensboro NC. There’s plenty of inspiration here.
I thought the same thing with the TV. Those big ones take up too much space and at times the focus of the room. Her selection of TV's are perfect for the size of the rooms.
Beautiful style and function! This dress is gorgeous…and Ms. Cheryl reminds me of a younger Patti LaBelle!
Delightful! She really gets what home means. Thank you Cheryl and Homeworthy.
I love the fact that you left the natural wood on the cabinets in the kitchen bravo bravo! I live in 100 year-old bungalow and I love my kitchen. Oh my goodness how I love it. I love the tones. I love the natural vibe, beautiful beautiful beautiful beautiful thank you so much for sharing.
The way she made the oak kitchen cabinets work is lovely.
Why I'm not familiar with Cheryl, I think she has great taste, love her home, and LOVE her fur friend! Also, she seems like someone I would love to have as a friend.
So beautiful and functional!!! I just love what you did with the shower curtain and fixed drapery in your bathroom. Fabulous idea.
A place that feels like home without being overly staged. Really nice.
I saw Cheryl’s kitchen featured in BHG a while back. Incredibly intrigued at what the rest of her home may look like…and it did not disappoint! She, as a person, is also fantastic!
What's bhg?

I love her dress and her endearing demeanor! Kimberly
What a beautiful, warm & inviting home that perfectly reflects the homeowner. I love the piano in what I'm guessing was a formal dining area. You really must make your space work for you & your life style. I think it's a brilliant use of the space.
The porch set the mood for the entire home, just beautiful. I love International & MCM styles, so I often find traditional styles overstuffed & overwhelming, but this home is lovely. Filled with warmth & elegance, but not cluttered. Beautifully done.
Love the blue and white ginger jars over the cabinets
SHE IS THE KINDA PERSON THAT IF SHE HAD A DINNER PARTY AT HER HOUSE SHE WILL BE LIKE GIRL YOU STILL HERE 🤣 BECAUSE HER PERSONALITY YOU NEVER WANT TO LEAVE💚
‘’ I’m a girl with a lot of stuff” love that and I can relate! Cheryl is wonderful. Really enjoyed this! Thank you for sharing…
Great idea to make the runner out of a remnant rug. Smart!
What a beautiful bungalow! I love the kitchen, bedroom & bathroom! The way she made the wood cabinets work in the kitchen is so nice! Love the Schumacher bedroom fabric & the beautiful tub/shower! Love her dress & earrings too! Lovely style!!
Beautiful home & host! Homeworthy - love your content & please do better about the lighting for richly melanated skin tones.
Yesssssssss 💯 % ❤❤❤❤❤
a very cute exterior. I love her earrings!
First thing I thought was Patty Labelle. For some reason she looks like Patty to me. I absolutely loved her place and her personality. Great tour!
a lovely home for a lovely lady-cute dog, as well!
Hello Ms. Lockett, I love everything and the way she layered her furnitures, nestled to live soft, sophisticated, and comfortably. Her housework decorations is a home that whenever you visit, you just want to stay and begin to sit and relax to observe and enjoy. Thank you for taking the time to showcase your personal styles and teaches us the viewer .
I LOVED THIS BUNGALOW!🏡 MOST OF US LIVE LIKE HER, IN SMALL HOUSES. THE MIX OF PRINTS IS JUST THE RIGHT MEASURE WITHOUT OVERWHELMING THE EYES!😊 THE LADY IS ELEGANT & NICE!🍃🌹🍃 A SIMPLY WONDERFUL EPISODE, CONGRATULATIONS!✔
Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home with us. Love all the collections. Great story with the piano. You are a fabulous hostess.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Loved EVERYTHING about this stunningly, beautiful home! Love that your channel ALWAYS shows diversity where it's the homeowners, small and large homes and people that use vintage finds because many of us can't afford Large showcase houses with decorators! Thank you for sharing another BEAUTIFUL HOME OWNED BY A BEAUTIFUL WOMAN OF COLOR! ❤
Such a beautiful and special Lady. You are the epitome of the elegant, classy Southern girl. Your home reflects you totally. Warm, traditional, and graceful. You have one of the most beautiful kitchens that I've seen. All of your drapes are just gorgeous, and so perfect your home. I love your dress! Thank you so much for allowing us to tour your fabulous home🥰
Brilliant strategy in the kitchen! Proves you can make anything look elevated and elegant.
Absolutely fabulous. You used the space so well it actually seems like a larger house.
This is now one of my favorite tours. Smaller home tours are always among my favorites and this did not disappoint. I just loved her entire home. When Cheryl said decorating a home requires looking inside and not outside, I thought she hit the nail right on the head. And I absolutely love what she did with her kitchen. I have a friend who painted her cabinets over 10 years ago and they are flaking and falling apart and she said I'm older now and don't have the energy to do it again. It's an undertaking! Cheryl knocked it out of the park with working with hers and it looks fabulous. You can't say anybody else has a kitchen like hers and that's what's so special about it. ❤
Bravo!! Thank you for the tour Cheryl. This was a real treat. 😊
I absolutely loved this home! I really learned a lot about fixing parts of rooms to make them more comfortable and beautiful - like that little landing spot coming in from the garage, by the kitchen. I actually prefer smaller kitchens. My favorite was the tiniest I’ve ever had. I have a really large one now, and it’s lovely, but am going to be moving, and ironically, I want a smaller one. I loved how she gave her kitchen so much space, beauty, comfort and usefulness all together. And I love how she put the tv over the fridge! I haven’t seen that before. Also, love the upholstered laundry closet! It really goes to show you how a lot of money that’s gone in to many homes doesn’t mean they’re going to be the most creative. Really a great video - thanks Homeworthy!
I love her home and she's great. Love all her vintage and second hand finds.
Beautiful and absolutely Swoon-Worthy!
I think she is such a sweet lady who loves her space and it warmed my heart!!
Love your design philosophy and especially the design & color scheme around your honey oak cabinets!! 🥰🥰
Her home is just perfect. I really enjoyed watching. I think my favorite space was the little nook off of the garage with the fabulous black and white wall paper and the beautiful art which beautifully sparkled through the mirror. The entire home was lovely though.
You are delightful, Cheryl and your home reflects your joyful outlook! Thanks for sharing your talent and beautiful home. Hugs to Cocoa!
I am enjoying your style I see myself in you. This is my first time watching your video. Thanks looking forward to seeing your next video. Keep up the wonderful work.
I love her home, and I appreciate that so much of her furniture is vintage or repurposed.
FABULOUS, I Love Cheryl’s Home, Perfect Decor Selections With Beautiful Color & Textures.
Cheryl is quite a Creative, Sensible, Lovely & Attractive Woman.
TUFS
I totally enjoyed this episode. I was interrupted a few times, so I had to start it over 😊. I hope to see more bungalow homes this year. Thanks.❤
WOW, Cheryl has such a lovely home. She has made her home so cosy and functional. The back patio with the screened in capability is amazing. Her personality is so charming and personable. Thank you for inviting us into your elegant home. Thank you Homeworthy!
Love your taste it is very classy. Thanks for sharing your home. What a steal of deal on the bathroom wallpaper! I am a big fan of orange and blue, very nice kitchen.
This is not only a very tasteful home, but also proof that it does not take an amount of space to combine individuality and function. Her motto is function first and I like that. The kitchen furniture is in good shape, not painting it is a good decision, although I would have stained it, since stain is a real alternative to paint, which in fact flakes and becomes shabby over time due to the high load in kitchens. Nevertheless, the kitchen looks very tasteful. It makes sense to embrace circumstances instead of spending money unnecessarily and disposing of things that work.
Love that you were visionary enough to keep the kitchen cabinets...brilliant.
Love this woman! Any lady whose "house scent" is a candle from Bath & Body Works is my kinda girl. She and her home are warm, inviting, colorful, and gorgeous!
She’s awesome and so is her gorgeous home. So beautifully done.
Everything about you is beautiful, from your smile, to your sense of fashion and style. This home is stunning! I could move right in and the decor would fit me very well. AND I'm from N.C. (Greensboro to be exact).
I love this episode! Your home and personality is darling.
Afro Southern! Yes!!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽. And you kept your honey oak! Score!! ♥️♥️♥️. Bath girls rock!
I am loving this cottage! It's so perfect. So many wonderful pieces. I love the use of the space and how it was created. It has so many moments. My kinda place!! You have great energy, too!❤
I love this home!
This is one of my favorites!
I love your amazing style for making a house a home.
She is an amazing designer. The thought process in her designs are incredible. Thank you for sharing.
Let's go AFRO SOUTHERN. I love it and so enjoyed touring your lovely home. I'm now following you on Instagram. As an aside: You favor Ms. Patti LaBelle. 😊🏠
I like it that you are a self contained woman without kid stuff everywhere. Refreshing!
Beautiful home…love, love the kitchen!
Just gorgeous! Well done.
So cozy
