Pan Am's 50th Anniversary Flight To the Orient 1985

In 1985, the China Clipper II, A Pan Am Boeing 747, went on a special journey to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Pan Am's first Pacific crossing back in 1935. Pan Am pioneered the very first transpacific voyage from America to Asia, offering an instantly speedier alternative to traveling by ship. The 50th anniversary flight retraced the original routing of the Pan Am Clippers, first departing San Francisco to Honolulu, then to the islands of Midway, Wake and Guam, and finally to Manila in the Philippines.
The 50th anniversary trip also marked a sad irony. Pan Am in 1985 gave up its entire international Pacific division to United Airlines for 750 million US dollars, which marked the beginning of a decline of the airline until its demise in December 1991.
Featured are some cameos of James Michener, Imelda Marcos, and Ed Acker (the CEO of Pan Am in 1985).
