    Nice video thank you for sharing, in regards to commercial boats, I appreciate everyone's experiences and perspectives on this! It’s clear that tensions can run high out on the water, especially when recreational and commercial fishermen cross paths. Personally, I believe in mutual respect-whether you’re out there for a living or just for fun, we all have the SAME RIGHT to enjoy the sea.
    From my own experience, I once was at the windfarm on the SIB with my son, and there were three commercial boats already there drifting on the platform. As a beginner, I was definitely clumsy and didn’t really know what I was doing. I saw them catching two or three fish on every drift while I caught nothing. I was close to them at some points and probably very annoying, but they never said anything-maybe they were just patient or felt sorry for me!
    There was an older fisherman on one of the boats who seemed to be in charge, so I told him I was sorry if we were in the way and that we were just beginners trying to learn. To my surprise, he actually started giving us advice on how to fish with live bait and how to stay close to the bottom, even though we only had lures. He pointed us to another yellow boat and told us they were fishing with lures, so I went over and tried to anchor as they did. I struggled a lot-it was obvious I didn’t know what I was doing-but again, they were patient and even helped by pointing out where to cast my lure and how to fish.
    I didn’t end up catching anything, and they still caught fish on every cast, but it was a great learning experience for me and my son.
    My takeaway is that most of the time, a little respect and understanding can go a long way. The sea is free for everyone, and sharing it can be a positive experience if we’re all considerate of one another
    On a lighter note, I think it's important for all the experienced folks out there-or those who think they’re big enough to get angry at others-to remember that not everyone knows what they know. Instead of getting upset, try to educate and share your knowledge because there are no written rules out there "I learn from you" and we all learn by experience and from others. A little guidance and kindness go a long way. Tight lines, everyone!"

      Hello mate, thank you for the comment. How are you getting on with your endeavour? Fancy meeting up one day?
      Yeah I agree, I am friendly with a couple of them and they have been nothing but great help. I often speak to them in the Shoreham lock too before we all go out and they are friendly, however you do get a lot that aren’t which is a shame. Like you say if they were to be a bit more patient then it would go a long way.
      Have a nice day buddy

      @SouthysFishing @SouthysFishing endeavour gave me some troubles at the start, but it is running fine now, no big luck in catching fish though, but I also keep trying and learning. Certainly, I would love to meet up.

    How do you avoid snagging your baseline when there are stones?

    • @SouthysFishing
      @SouthysFishing  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You just have to be careful, we fish tight to the bottom so you will get some snags, it’s just part of fishing. If your not getting snagged your not fishing tight enough to the bottom we say!

    Personally….With the Exception of the ledges or that platform in the windfarm where it’s a big mark if I approach a wreck and there is multiple commercials on it then I just leave them alone, they’re earning a living I’m not and that particular wreck you’re on is there bread and butter in the Autumn. I prefer to go look at other wrecks and find some fish where I’m alone and learning new marks rather than fish the same ones and there’s great wrecks there in that area that all hold more than that one on there day.
    General rule of thumb if you are close enough to have a conversation going round without shouting then you’re to close to the wreck mate.
    But like I said each to their own and everyone has a right to fish a mark.

    • @SouthysFishing
      @SouthysFishing  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Each to their own, I just don't like it when they are rude, theres no need for it and I've had them be rude on a number of occasions. I get it if your nose to nose and getting in their way, but I weren't and never have been.

    • @theamputeeangler

      @@SouthysFishing The trouble that we don’t see day in day out is some don’t know how far to go around a wreck and also and I have witnessed it myself with my own fishing is there are some absolute clowns out there with zero idea or boating knowledge and that’s been both sibs and also boats of all sizes steaming all over a wreck and destroying fishing for me and if that happens to them that’s their mortgage and bills made harder to pay which is why I leave them alone.
      There is also some who are just grumpy and don’t like pleasure anglers taking from a shoal when they view it as fish lost for them and I have also had it where they get humpy watching me throw fish back after getting my limit and asked why I’m still here fishing if I have my two so it’s a two sided coin but that windfarm is only 8 miles offshore and there’s the whole channel to fish with 1000s of wrecks which is why I just move on but it’s each to their own and all have a right to fish a mark.

      Great vid Ben! Enjoyed that mate! Re the commercials, you earn your money In a different way and have invested your hard earned in a boat to get you out where you want, a sport boat has as much right to fish wherever they want, it's expensive to do so, commercials are lucky they can go out and harvest wild fish to get paid, yes, it cost them money to do so but all business requires investment, it's not like they have to upkeep pastures and feed livestock etc. I'm a builder, I don't go around Screwfix fronting everyone telling them to keep off my patch, or even worse imagine standing outside B&Q telling some poor bloke not to do his own DIY...it's just daft, the very limited amount of fish a sport boat takes shouldn't worry them, if it does they need to find a new profession.

      @@hooklinetrigger4576thank you for watching mate, short but sweet hopefully. Yeah I agree with you, I get it’s their job but not need for them to act bigger than others or be rude, I’ve had them drive at me before in the SIB.

      I've been fishing a mark and the commercial boats turn up and start gobbing off and cutting me up. Don't overthink it, a gobby prick at sea isnt worth listening to any more than if they were in the pub. Their noisy outboards with underwater exhausts even going round the wreck (sounds travels in all directions underwater) can soon mess up the bass feeding. Seen it many times. Just how it is.... I have people pissing me off at work as much as they do. Better to find your secret marks mate

  • @johnbuswell691

    I have found most commercial bass fishermen just rape the sea for as much as they can , and have bumped into me , run other the bass them self when they have finished and just a bad attitude all round. Think they own the sea. And I’m careful not to scare the fish and give them plenty of room.

    • @SouthysFishing
      @SouthysFishing  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Spot on mate, why can't we drift a wreck if they are? If we are doing exactly the same as them. And I mean exactly the same, same drift line, same method, no engine etc. Some of them are helpful and friendly but you do get a ton that aren't. I get its their job, no need to be rude though aye!

    Commercial or not that’s there choice , they have no more right than you, the only advantage they have is they can legally catch more and sell the catch THATS IT so don’t let them tell you ANYTHING the sea is free to everyone !
