I just finished reading 'Montgomery Clift: A Biograph' by Patricia Bosworth. A very well written and inciteful telling of his tragic life filled so many stories from those who knew him best.
I just watched some of Red River here on youtube last night. I have seen in the past, but this time I noticed something Monty did that hadn't caught my eye before. The way he mounts a horse from the ground. He is not a tall guy, but in one motion he leaps up putting his left foot into the stirrup and swings his right leg over the saddle - and boom, he is mounted! It is like he does it all in mid air. I guarantee ye, John Wayne couldn't do that! He does it twice early in the movie, before they move out for Missouri.
it's impossible to dismiss how unbelievably , physically beautiful he was ! - he's buried in Prospect Park , in Brooklyn , in a lovely secluded place , the old Quaker Cemetery ! toward the center of the park .
dru boy : I feel the same way, he was simply perfect. I feel so sorry about his untimely ending and the sadness or lonelyness, he musta felt inside....
It’s so so sad how his sexuality wasn’t accepted and haunted and evidently it was that pain that killed him. I had a friend who’s life was ended short bc he could never come to terms with it and the pain and guilt that he felt. Love ur kime
poor, desperate guy. He had it all - talent, looks, intelligence, the right friends. Marilyn Monroe said that, while filming The Mistfits, he was the only person she knew who was in worse shape then she was. When you look at them together they were like 2 desperate children clinging onto each other.
A very sad man. It's heartbreaking to read or hear interviews that show how unbelievably shy he really was and how he cared so much of the judgement of others. He really shouldn't have.
No one could get into a part like Montgomery Clift! A place in the Sun, From Here to Eternity, and I confess. Like Tab Hunter, his sexual preference in no way took away from his popularity as one of Hollywood's most handsome leading actors.
the tortured soul who committed the slowest suicide in Hollywood. I wish there was more on here about this beautiful man!!! what a tragic tragic life. Thank you for sharing.
tonya, I think you are on top of this situation. I think you are on the money. I'm with you all the way. It does look like a slow suicide. Whatever his private life he had the decency to keep it to himself as far as I can see. I respect that.

Just remember that Liz Taylor lost another friend to a car accident on September 30th 1955 ( James Dean ). Another great talent dealing with his sexuality also. 🏳️🌈
There were a lot of handsome actors in that era but MC stood out because he could actually act. His delivery wasn't wooden unlike other actors of that time. The critics were particularly cruel and unfair towards him whilst giving praise to less talented actors.
The older I get, the less I pay attention to critics. They're generally misinformed and/or off the mark. Of course she didn't need to be present that would be ridiculous lol. Monty must've told her that he was gay. I personally think it does matter in a way, so many people try to down play his homosexuality or erase it all together and I don't think that's right at all.
