That's not a rat nest mate. The box does not seal properly at the back and dust comes through the backside of the air filter box. That's why the previous owner put some cotton on that end to make sure the dust collects on that side. If you don't seal it on that side, half or a 1/3 of the filter gets real dusty on that the bottom of the K&N filter. I did my service yesterday and noticed that myself. Awesome video!
Nonsense! 😅 That was, without a doubt, a rodent nest complete with remnants of the invaders' food supply. I've had mice nesting in my 950's airbox as well. They were able to enter through the snorkel before I replaced it with a foam pre-filter with stainless mesh. Now it's finally time to upgrade to this RP airbox eliminator kit.
