I've never had a thing for Yamaha bikes, but this one does give the tingles. Love the design, the colors, details like the brace with the clips. Never been a fan of digital displays either, but it seems to work nicely here. Sounds really 'earthy' too, those triples.

I have tested both - the standard XSR as well as GP. The problem with standard XSR are imho not the tyres, but the suspension. It was awfull. Hard, jumping and no feedback. It was difficult to recognize, whats wrong on the smooth tarmac, but on bad roads everything became clear. And the hard seat made it even worse. GP is completely different. The suspension works in a way, that I had a feeling like riding Ohlins - firm, but comfortable with lot of feedback. Softer seat. Also more weigth on the front wheel increased the feedback and confidence overall. Its perfect sport bike on the streets - not as radical as regular supersports, but sporty enough for the daily rides. And looks awesome.
Those S23 tires play a big big part in handling. Put them on 2 completely different bikes (FZ8 and SV650) coming both from Rosso 3 (which I loved) but these made the bikes even better in handling and confidence during speedy turns.
As an owner of this bike I can tell, without the under cowl isn’t making this bike bad, the real problem for her looking weird is the shape of fuel tank. It just feels out of place in person, overall I love the rest of her.

Really wish we would've gotten this bike in the U.S.A as well! I'll be waiting for the R9 instead 🥲. I feel like the CP3 is the perfect street motor once tuned and unlocked with not too much power and not too little to be boring (other than long straights). I'm just burned out of fighting wind drag on nakeds and looking forward to these bikes with my favorite motor.
Spring can't come soon enogh :) I wasn't a fan of the original XSR either but for me it was the rather stretched riding position, for a naked bike. This concept seems more fiting.

optik finde ich sehr gelungen, wenngleich mir runde doppelscheinwerfer besser gefallen hätten. hätte auch gegen eine bugverkleidung nichts gehabt. :) bin den CP3 nur einmal in der niken gefahren - könnte mir vorstellen, dass das in einem leichtern bike wunderbar performt. wäre im moment der einzige sportler für die straße, den ich für interessant hielte. und offenbar hat er ja auch ordentlich performt, wie man an deinem kommentar gemerkt hat.
Nice ride and review! Having test-ridden an MT-09 last year I sense a CP3 bike or something else in that class (Z900, Ducati V2, ...) in my future. If I'm not mistaken you once said you considered that 120-ish hp mark the sweet spot for road riding. Do you still feel that way? I find above that point bikes all start becoming too much of something (either too heavy, too expensive, too extreme, or whatever).
Can't say much about the exhaust, that "keep the EU happy" exhaust honestly doesn't sound much different from stock. Otherwise looks like a fun bike. I suspect a "someplace not the EU" spec Akrapovic exhaust would sound better.

Have you ever been in crash Schaaf? I don't mean to be rude, I ask because I feel you need to get in a crash to know the limits of your bike as well as someone like you does.
Total miss for me. Its a curiosity and nothing more. Headlight is hideous and probably useless. Fairings look like an afterthought. Cockpit view and tft works for me but its not fitting w retro style. Its very confused. Underspec’d. If you’re going to build something thats “special “, put better suspension and brakes on it. Look at the Triumph Speed 1200rr. Get w the program Yamaha. Give us this bike in USA but do it better.
The cockpit view is really good on this bike. Could say one of the best imo. Good one.

S23 are insanely good. They provide a level of stability that most other tires don't.
The headlight and the lack of side fairings ruins the whole retro look. With double round headlights it could have been a killer.

Genau so isses, in der Niken hat er ein bisserl zu wenig Dampf, in allen anderen Modellen fühlt er sich quasi perfekt an
