#CriticalRole #ExandriaUnlimited #Episode1
dude, i love when i watch someone reacting to CR content and they start taking notes. like, they got so invested they need to figure out the plot and the lore of it. fuck yeah
"What the fuck is Draconic?"
The language of Dragons. I love answering questions like these!! please, feel free to ask ANYTHING!!
I'm honestly so impressed you remembered the calamity flashback in TLOVM, good job
Thank you! I don't have the best memory but I do try. I think I'll make the note taking a regular thing to help with that
Luis is an actor. He has TV and indie movies credits. He also played a lot of D&D as well as DM home games. However, this is the first time he and Brennan played together. And Brennan just open the campaign with him. 😂
Brennan is also an improv comedian by trade for a while. But when he want make you cry? You would be powerless to resist.
Luis actually had home games Matt Tal and Marisha before the Critical Role cast all trickled into Matt's social circle and started a game together
Brennan is a fantastic GM. He's done a lot of comedy stuff with College Humour and Dropout TV. He's also run several shorter D&D campaigns for Dimension 20
I knew I recognized Brennan from somewhere and it's college humor. Yeah he appears to be great at it
Just to clarify: Brennan hasn’t just run games for Dimension 20, he is the creator and GM of the show, with other guest GMs coming in for shorter campaigns.
aaaah i love this series so much!!
fantastic reaction, you are so clearly engaged in everything that is going on. makes me feel like i'm watching it again for the first time :D
The Dawnfather is the one who planted the Sun Tree. I think that's about all you need to know.
Oh sweet! Ok I'll run with that
You are correct, you have seen the Dawnfather before. And you may remember when the before that vision started for Vax, him saying “Is this the-Calamity?”
Ah yes I do! Nice!
brennan is an amazing dm, one of the best in the world. I don't think we've seen him dm a long campaign like matt, but he does a lot of short story and character driven campaigns, most in dimension 20 a dropout (formerly college humor) show. You can actually watch a lot of his campaigns on youtube. I would recommend fantasy high or the unsleeping city if you wanted to see more of him
World's Beyond Number, podcast only, but it is a long form campaign lead by Brennan with Lou, Aabrya, and Erica... So good and well worth a listen
Fantasy high seasons 1-3 adds up to a fairly lengthy campaign
Escape from the bloodkeep is the shortest one. And it's based on lord of 5he rings but all the players are evil charachters
Escape from blood keep is also available on YT in full
aw fun. as a travis willingham fan, i know you're gonna love this one
Oh yeah? Let's go!
Brennan is the host and creator of dimension 20.
Excited to see you react to the rest of this! I second the folks suggesting Candela Obscura to you (as long as you can stomach horror ) Candela doesn’t take place in Exandria so spoilers arnt a concern, it’s a whole different world based off of one of CR’s original ttrpg systems so it’s not DND either
I've never seen someone do a react series of something like this just because it's so long. Keep it up dude. I'm sure some comments will be a little bugged by your questions, but for the most part CR's fans tend to be pretty welcoming of people exploring the series for the first time. I hope you enjoy this one. IMO, it's some of the best actual play out there. Calamity is exploring something so interesting, and it's presented in a fantastic and beautiful fashion. I can't wait for you to see things really go off, or see the longest 1 second of game time ever. It's awesome.
I love that the first thing you say about Brennan is that he's a very good storyteller, without knowing anything else but the first minute of this. I can describe him in a lot of very different all positive ways, but I think he was born to be a storyteller. It's what he seems most comfortable in
Yeah I noticed it right away. The atmosphere and tension was immediately set and it was effortless
@@DiggityBippityDnD It's truly masterful. If you enjoy those aspects of it, I would highly recommend Dimension 20 (his own DnD series), specifically A Crown of Candy and Neverafter for their tone and story
I love watching reactions to Calamity from people who don't know wtf is going on. It's like walking into the theater hand in hand with someone who lives under a rock to go see the Titanic lmfao. Oh cool, they're going on an adventure! ...AAAAH!
Yeah, Matt and Brennan have different DMing styles but I think they are the same caliber of DM... They're both absolutely amazing at what they do and they always produce extremely high quality stuff... Brennan has a little bit more of a improv background but they both do pretty great voiceover work. I would say that Matt has stronger voice work than Brennan. Mainly just because Matt is a professional voice actor ...whereas Brennan is not he is mainly an improv comedian. So yeah, they both have their strengths and weaknesses as DMs... But they're both very VERY good DMS that have decades of experience!
OH THE ALGORITHM WORKED!!! I've been rewatching Calamity recently so TH-cam knew what was on my mind.
Once you watch all of the campaigns in full, or at least 1 and 2, you should really come back and watch this again, it's so damn cool to see the payoff from nearly a decade of lore drops and scarred landscapes and history and Matt's little hints. It's just magnificent. (Whether you do it on camera or not, it's really just a cool thing experience that I think you'll enjoy.)
So clarification, Ghor Dranas is actually not the name of the horned god, you’ll find out what it means later :]
Yo, Joe! Let's gooooo! Yeah. This little series is... fire.
Very impressed you remembered the Dawnfather from that brief scene in TLOVM considering you have almost 0 context lol. That's impressive. I suppose having a big glowing sun for a head is memorable, but still!
Oooh I just re-watched EXU: Calamity... An incredible, emotional ride! Very cool to discover your reaction. Glad you're enjoying Brennan and the show so far--- it's SOOO good. Brennan DMs for Dimension 20 on Dropout-- Fantasy High, The Unsleeping City, and Escape from the Bloodkeep are all AMAZING places to start with D20.
Awesome reaction, can´t wait for you to see the rest!
I really like how invested you are... as much as I am 😜
Oh yeah, this is one of the best contents out there. Enjoy!!
So far, you ain't lyin!
I love Calamity so much. You are in for an amazing ride.
Oh, man. This is gonna be a great one.
So a fun thing to pay attention to/ think about, is all of the tech in this world. TLOVM is set in 800-ish Post Divergence. This take place around 200 years before that, so about 1,000 before Vox.
.
The world that VM live in is in fact a post-apocalyptic society that still hasn't gotten anywhere near where they once were (for a vast number of reasons, some of which youll probably be able to figure out here)
Can't wait to see the rest of your reaction to this miniseries! Its so so good!! It's honestly one of my favorite things that critical role has produced... Of their short form content, of course.
Found your content through this. Really glad you're giving this a try. Will be going through your backlog.
I'm so excited for you to watch this!
I love what I've seen so far!
""Is the horned one benevolant?""
He is beyond redemption...
53:40 Not to be that annoying "The books are better that the movies" person that I 100% am. But honestly, I'd consider TLOVM as a spoiler for the campaign rather than the opposite lol. I know you have a reaction channel so that's a consideration for you. TLOVM is great, but it's just not as good as the campaign. (And how could it be?!?!?! They are compressing hundreds of hours of material into a teeny tiny space OF COURSE cool stuff is missing!!! That's NOT a diss on the show, TLOVM is awesome! But I do consider it a cool addition to the campaign and an alternate universe, you can't really rely on it 100% for lore or plot if you're going to try to get into the campaigns properly, it just won't match up).
49:40 Speaking of differences with the budget, boy oh boy are you going to have to suck it up and deal with some dubious tech when you go back and watch C1 lol. (That's another reason I advocate for people to watch them in order so it's not quite such a tech shock to the system, and you can watch it gradually improve rather than getting punched in the face by bad tech lol. But oh well. 😂 It's worth it!)
Hearts will be broken...
These four episodes are some of the best quality entertainment you can find ❤❤❤
Always so happy to see people reacting to Calamity. Love hearing your predictions too! This is one of the best things Critical Role has put out in my opinion.
If you want to watch more critical role you should also watch the candela obscura chapters. They have no spoilers from the campaigns and there just very good!!!! Each chapter is 3 episodes long so not too long and there confined stories
Also Abria is another GM as well.
you can also look for Misfits and Magic where Brennan is a player and Aabria is DM
Or "Escape from the Bloodkeep" with Bennan as DM and *Matt* as a player!
I second "Escape from the Bloodkeep!" As a Lord of the Rings fan, I loved the shift to the villain's point of view, but in a goofy way. A 6 episode romp, and it's one of the rare times you get to see Matt play a PC.
30:31 technically paladins gain their powers from their oaths and while it is often to a God it doesn't need to be for example a paladin that has sworn to protect the innocent or sworn to exact vengeance will still have the same abilities as those who do that in service to a god
Ahhh I thought it was strictly from an allegiance to a deity. Thanks for sharing!
I've missed ya man, u haven't appeared in my feed for a while. But now that u have i am locked it! 🎉
Yes!
