People say AC/DC only uses a few chords - but try and play theyre songs right - they are the absolute masters at what they do - dont just think you strum an A chord - and you are playing AC/DC.

100%! There’s nuances there in his playing that are very difficult to replicate! That’s one of the great things about guitar, you can never learn it all!
Same with the drums. Any dickhead can play a 4/4 beat on a drum kit, but no one does it with the feel and groove of Phil Rudd. AC/DC is absolutely not the same without him and i refuse to see them live if Phil is not on the skins
Angus and Malcolm (RIP MALCOLM) was the gods of easy chords and songs. I learn a lot of the AC/DC songs and after 25 years of my guitar experience i still don't know how they made those magic. Playing guitar for over 30+ years I always find it great to find channels like this that give great tips to beginners, but it's also the concise knowledge you have -- it's about having an ear for it. some of these songs you mentioned i'd played years ago in cover bands and would often opt for the power chord version by either being sloppy or just doing my own versions, it's good you do a great thorough take on some of these chords. The E chord does include a g#, certainly as Mal played it, use the old fashioned 1st position open E and strum strings 6 through 3, as evidenced in Jailbreak and lots of other songs with that chord in there. Angus might play the E as presented here but Angus and Mal often had different parts.
Been learning for a year struggling not to mute notes whilst forming chords this is far easier I’ve gone from terrible to not so terrible thanks for the lesson.
Great video! The G chord reminded me of when I had a handful of lessons with Gizz Butt in the mid 90s, I'd been pretty much taught loads of punk songs from the early 80s, and had a guitar case chord book with the fingerings for 'open chords' and the G was obviously the 'traditional ' fingering, Gizz showed me your "AC/DC" version and it sounded so much better! !! I loved AC/DC from my early teens (1980 onwards) up to For Those About To Rock...after that I kinda lost interest in the newer stuff...in 1979 I totally fell in love with the Pretenders, James Honeyman -Scott was a phenomenal guitar melody beast! I'm now going to watch more of your AC/DC videos....thank you for uploading this!

I don't play much metal, so I wouldn't be able to give you an honest opinion about that, but it sure does ACDC well! For V's, the Epiphone flying V is a great one!
I learned in another video that AC/DC don't play full chords, they only play the power chords and leave the major 3rd to Cliff on bass. It's one of the reasons their songs sound so cool. To see what I mean search up "the bass player of AC/DC was a genius" here on youtube
Less is more wen it comes to acdc....but there are a few tuffer ones like beating around the bush,riff raff,landslide,and i like playing the hony roll alot too!!

Thank you for excellent video lesson. It's a shame there is no consistency amongst different teachers. Everyone has it's own definition of different Chords. As a beginner I have learnt that A chord is Pointing finger on the D string 2nd fret, only to find out today that it also must have Middle finger on G string on the 2nd fret....
You mean power chord? I'm not a guitarist but I guess you could play A-E or A-E-A. Musically it's the same notes just the harmonics might be a tad different because there's additional A sitting in another octave. G string 2nd fret is just another way of playing A and D string 2nd fret is just another way of playing E.
I've been playing guitar for a loooong time, but I still can't get a grip on the exact A chord in "Fly on the wall"!?? Not that A chord in the beginning, but the one after " Da , da, da, da" .. If that made any sense! 😂Anyone know the right way to play it?
@@Studio33guitar I’m a extreme AC/DC FAN. I made t-shirts with their songs on them in the early 80s. I worked swing shift. And hung out with friend late at night. They called The Night Prowler.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. It is fun to play their music. Like the day I learned to do the lead on Thunderstruck.
Thanks for the comment! AC/DC is well known for playing straight into the amp without pedals. However a little reverb is definitely added in the studio on the recordings.
Good video but your using the wrong fingers when playing the G chord so going from a G to a C your fingers wont move as smoothly and fast You should play the G chord using the 2end 3rd and pinky as that's the correct method , if your going to add a D you can bar the 2nd and 1st string with your pinky , It dose take more time to learn to do it correctly but once you do you will play faster and less slopy as all your fingers are lined up perfectly without having to reposition Plus if you play a G incorrectly you wont be able to go from a G to a G7 or a G with an added C

Unfortunately, for health reasons, I can no longer pursue my lifelong passion as a brass player: that was the trombone during my youth and my secret love for the flugelhorn in my older years. So I decided to learn a practical little plucked instrument. After my covid-19 infection, I'm just starting to learn the ukulele. I won't play in a band like I used to. As a 61-year-old complete beginner, I will be content with playing a few accords on "the lute" on social occasions. If, hopefully, the first "successes" or, to put it better, skills in strumming will appear soon, I'll try to loop a little.
In order to play guitar like Ac/Dc, you have to be 4 feet 6 inches "tall", with Scottish DNA & an Australian upbringing. Pete Townshend wrote an awful lot of songs featuring the same chords Ac/Dc use all the time, A/G/D, but his stuff sounds very different because he's 6 feet tall & English. I'm bloody well not going to tell you what you have to do in order to sing like Bon Scott (rutting weasels are involved). "I'm sick and tired of hearing people say we made 17 albums that all sound the same. That's bullshit. We made 18 albums that all sound the same."---Angus Young.
Thanks for the comment! Yes, you’re right, the theory is the same as a power chord (Root and 5th) but it’s different than a traditional power chord which is often played more like a barre chord. Also the doubling of some of the notes in the high end gives it the clarity you need for this sound! Thanks for watching!
@@Studio33guitar I am pretty experienced but just pointing out that removing the 3rd gives the chord a more powerful sound. Also the third creates some overtones and harmonics. Depends on where you play it on the neck too.
A lot of this is good...but it's not exactly how Angus plays these. Particularly the C and sometimes he uses that full G for a rounder sound and then goes to the G with the 3rd removed (Shook me). Some nuances there. Watch it up close. th-cam.com/video/RZk39K5T-5M/w-d-xo.html

Lowered power pickups coupled with high output amplifier will clear up and define that muddiness. Great video 👍🏻

One thing is to back off the overdrive or distortion. The rhythm guitar sound is almost clean, only a little breakup

You're not clear on the C5. Are you muting the b string? Is it an C5+9?
The D chord is often played with the low a tone.

Thanks for the comment! AC/DC is well known for playing straight into the amp without pedals. However a little reverb is definitely added in the studio on the recordings.

On that G chord you can also mute the A string with your index finger. That's how I was taught to play a G.

Good video but your using the wrong fingers when playing the G chord so going from a G to a C your fingers wont move as smoothly and fast You should play the G chord using the 2end 3rd and pinky as that's the correct method , if your going to add a D you can bar the 2nd and 1st string with your pinky , It dose take more time to learn to do it correctly but once you do you will play faster and less slopy as all your fingers are lined up perfectly without having to reposition Plus if you play a G incorrectly you wont be able to go from a G to a G7 or a G with an added C

Unfortunately, for health reasons, I can no longer pursue my lifelong passion as a brass player: that was the trombone during my youth and my secret love for the flugelhorn in my older years.
So I decided to learn a practical little plucked instrument.
After my covid-19 infection, I'm just starting to learn the ukulele. I won't play in a band like I used to. As a 61-year-old complete beginner, I will be content with playing a few accords on "the lute" on social occasions.
If, hopefully, the first "successes" or, to put it better, skills in strumming will appear soon, I'll try to loop a little.

In order to play guitar like Ac/Dc, you have to be 4 feet 6 inches "tall", with Scottish DNA & an Australian upbringing. Pete Townshend wrote an awful lot of songs featuring the same chords Ac/Dc use all the time, A/G/D, but his stuff sounds very different because he's 6 feet tall & English. I'm bloody well not going to tell you what you have to do in order to sing like Bon Scott (rutting weasels are involved). Thanks for the comment! Yes, you’re right, the theory is the same as a power chord (Root and 5th) but it’s different than a traditional power chord which is often played more like a barre chord. Also the doubling of some of the notes in the high end gives it the clarity you need for this sound! Thanks for watching!
@@Studio33guitar I am pretty experienced but just pointing out that removing the 3rd gives the chord a more powerful sound. Also the third creates some overtones and harmonics. Depends on where you play it on the neck too.
