[QUICK FIX!] Replacing a broken Baldwin door latch

- My Baldwin door latch broke and I was able to get a free replacement kit from the manufacturer - just by emailing them! Many companies offer superior levels of service - you just have to ask. Interestingly, this is the second Baldwin latch of mine that broke in the same way! Guess they had a design flaw somewhere...
This is a very straightforward process - after all, it's not that complicated of a fix. However, the parts are a little delicate and require some precision when assembling. Also, I didn't use any power tools as I didn't want to strip any screws or crack any parts of the assembly. When assembling, I had some alignment problems that required a little fine tuning. Just take your time, follow the directions, and be patient. If I can fix it, so can you!

Thanks! I bought a new set before I saw this, but I’m not upset since the outdoor finish was not great anyway. But I wouldn’t have been able to get the old one out without this.
You used the shim/washer when they told you not to. So when you tighten up the knob plate screws it caused it to bind up. If you remove the shim you’ll be able to fully tighten both screws.

They refused to provide a free kit. They charged me $49.50 plus shipping. My set was only about three years old and cost over $300. One would think this company would be responsible for their inferior mechanism.
Ugh! That really stinks! Sounds like quality has gone downhill, as mine lasted for many years longer than yours... ugh

I actually got the new latch from Baldwin themselves! I contacted their customer support and explained how the latch broke and they sent me a replacement for free!!
i dropped the set screw that holds door knob in place. Do ypu know whats the size of it so i can buy it from home depot ?

I used the support pages directly on baldwinhadware.com! I filled out their support form and even included pictures of the faulty piece and a few others - to ensure that the replacement part matched my set. Best of luck!
