Thank you sooooooo much. My house is from 1925 and this style of lock is similar enough that I could troubleshoot from your video. Thank you a million times

Thank you for this. You have no idea how hard it has been searching for info on how to fix mortis locks. My house was built in 1920 and I've been trying to repair all the door hardware.

So glad I found your video this morning when faced with fixing a 95 year old mortise door lock. Understanding the split rods and how to remove them was critical to opening everything up. It turned out the set screw to keep the lock cylinder in place was dislodged... Such clever mechanics! ... Thanks much for sharing!

This video is amazing. I’ve searched high and low for information on refurbishing my vintage lock, and this is the first and only video I’ve found that answered all my questions. Thank you!

Thank you!! I have one of these locks and while using the dead-bolt, it jammed and I was able to use the door. With your video as a reference, I was able to disassemble and repair it. I now have a working lock once again!

The most difficult part of refurbishing my Norwalk lock set was getting the doorknob shaft or bar out of the hub ring. The Norwalk set uses a single bar. It has a tapered end at the back of the hook. The brass in the hub ring apparently deformed ever so slightly, and kept the bar from unhooking, or caused a lot of friction when attempting to pull it out. I finally screwed the knob back on and was able to tip and pull it out. I should note that I have two of these lock sets, and the other worked fine. The one that hung up is used much less, yet shows more wear on the hub ring. I think it wasn't lubricated properly. It's important to change the "landing" point of the hook to even out the wear.
The finish on the knob and outdoor handle were originally black. I used Birchwood Casey brass black to restore the finish. I'm going to use lacquer to protect the rather delicate patina. Some people use wax or oil.

Great work! Thanks for being so methodical and easy to understand.
I’m helping my daycare switch the interior side of their front door mortise lock from a doorknob to a lever. Are there any kits that can help with that, or would we need to replace the entire lock? Thanks!

I have a customer who has an issue with her lock. When the release plunger is pressed it works fine. But whenever the deadbolt is used, the plunger also resets itself to lockout the exterior flap control. So she has to remember to press the release plunger every morning or lock herself out. Again. Is this a normal operation for this lock, or is it damaged? Thanks.

Cant get the lock cylinder to unscrew. It acts like it is seized. I have a key that I'm using to try and unscrew it but the key is on the verge of snapping off. I have the set screw unscrewd 4 turns and have tried to unscew it as I'm screwing the set screw in and out. Any idea what my options are? Thank you for the video.

What is the purpose of the stop and release buttons on the side? Are they really needed?

ENTRANCE / OFFICE (ANSI F04): Latchbolt is retracted by knob or lever from either side unless outside is locked by toggle on face of lock. In that case, the latchbolt is retracted by key outside and knob or lever inside. On some makes, dual position thumb turn replaces toggle. Auxiliary latch deadlocks latchbolt. Inside knob or lever is always free.

@@MarkAlbert HI, Asked above but you seem to know your stuff. I have an issue where using the deadbolt resets the plunger to lock the exterior lever. Causing my customer to lock herself out multiple times unless she remembers to press the plunger release every morning. Is this normal? Retracting the deadbolt does not release the exterior lever. Thanks.
