    As a Liverpool fan, I'm rooting so hard for him to be successful, not only for the club but for him as a professional. Since Torres and Suarez, Liverpool hasn't had a clinical striker (And thanks to the unstoppable force of Mane, Firmi and specially Salah, we didn't need one), but since he joined Liverpool I was hopeful he would become someone in the likes of those two. It's a shame is not working out.

    He’s a player that needs confidence just like Havertz and Morata. Unfortunately those type of players can be very frustrating.
    He would be at his best as a second striker besides a guy that guarantees goals and takes pressure of his shoulders

      Bad comparison. Havertz and Morota are false 9s they create space for wingers like Firmino use to for Mo and Mane. They do not have pressure to score many goals on the other hand Nunez does. He has been brought in specifically for that reason to score many goals. I do agree that he seems like a player who needs confidence and a run but the truth is he doesn't suit Liverpool. Remember Origi? Solanke? These solo traditional strikers do not work in this Liverpool system which is made for wingers to score goals. Why do you think Diaz is shining upfront this season in Nunez position because he is a dynamic forward Nunez is not.

    • @paulie-g
      @paulie-g 8 วันที่ผ่านมา +7

      @@thisisarmando8393 Origi has done better at Liverpool than he has ever done anywhere else. Solanke simply wasn't good enough at the time and needed to play consistently for several seasons to get to a level where he's OK for a team that's far below us in Spurs, we couldn't give him those minutes because we were competing for things. The fact Nunez is getting high quality chances is proof that the way Slot plays is perfectly fine for a #9. Missing them can not be tactical.

    • @thisisarmando8393
      @thisisarmando8393 8 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @paulie-g Origi done very well for the minutes he was getting mostly as a sub or when Firmino was injured yet Origi fell far below his expection when first signed. Done very well with crucial goals towards the end of his Liverpool spell but that's about it. It was clear he too was struggling in this Liverpool set up. You are correct that Nunez gets chances but have you noticed he scores when not under pressure? This is because of the set up. Having Mo and Diaz/Gakpo who all want to score puts him under pressure as they all occupy his space. He is a traditional striker he enjoys being a lone striker or with a partner as you can see he likes to run a lot, he needs space. Like I said he does not suit this Liverpool set up, a traditional striker will not work in this Liverpool set up, you need a technical payer who can both provide and score in that position hence why Diaz is thriving also Jota does well.

      He has a better g/a record than David Johnson, cost less relatively, & has a better injury record. Now go Google who Johnson was & what he achieved with Liverpool, cos I suspect you will have to lol. There is a LOT more to being an effective forward than just scoring goals; old time managers like Paisley & Clough were well aware of that. Nunez is part of the most successful Liverpool team in decades, how about just letting him keep doing whatever he's doing, eh?

      @paulie-g 8 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @@JoeyMills-y3v Well, we haven't won much while he's been at the club. We are all pulling for him to succeed, but he needs to improve. Johnson was not signed not to score. His record is roughly 1 in 3, which is very respectable, especially given a lot of those were sub appearances. His record was better than that for the two? seasons he started regularly. And most noteworthy, the player who replaced him was.. Ian Rush. The only thing Darwin has over Jota is availability. Look, we all like him, but this is his third year, we're going to need to make a decision soon on whether to sell or extend. I suggest you look at our wage bill, it's precariously close to UEFA's 70% of revenue limit, do we really want him taking up wage space at this level of performance? He's not going to take a cut on the extension, so Edwards/Hughes + Slot are going to have to make a decision and I don't think their data models include 'likability'. I sincerely hope Darwin can kick on and prove his worth before it's too late.

    Like most Liverpool fans, I want him to succeed but after 2 years and a half, we have to be realistic, he won't be the lethal striker we wanted. He'll be a great supersub that presses like his life depends on it and outruns tired opposition. But not the kind of guy massively outscoring his xG and making Liverpool go from scary team to impossible to defend against.
    As for who should be our striker, Joga and Diaz are good at this but they're not the kind to go in spaces and score at every counterattack.
    There are optionsthough: Gyökeres, Isak, Sesko, Marmoush... We haven't had a lethal striker since Suarez, 10 years ago already.

  • @stevendchu

    I'm a Liverpool supporter and the cold harsh reality is that in his 3rd season, he's actually regressed.
    He doesn't really cause as much "chaos" anymore or create massive chances for Salah.
    Maybe it's the new system put in place by Slot that emphasizes control over Klopp's.
    Take a look at his most recent start vs Southampton.
    Scores a 1v1 after the defender and keeper both made mistakes.
    Messed up two counters by not releasing the ball to Gakpo at the right time.
    Completely ignored wide open Chiesa/Elliott on the right wing to take a low percentage shot from outside the box that was predictably, blocked by a defender's shinpads.
    He will be an energy sub that causes defenders to panic and can influence games there (like winning the pen vs City), but I doubt he'll ever figure out the decision making and clinical finishing that unlocks his full potential.
    We all love watching him, but I think he'll be sold next summer.

  • @Gegota82
    @Gegota82 7 วันที่ผ่านมา +8

    Personally, Liverpool have a left winger luxury problem and has had that for years. If you watched Nunez in Portugal and for the national team, he plays on the left wing, driting inside and then shooting. I think that is his best position. the problem however, is that we have players who are far better than him playing on the left, so he is stuck up front, where he doesn't get the same out of it. Darwin Nunez is best when he can run at the goal, rather than up front with his back to the goal. He doesn't suit Slot's style of play as well as he did Klopps, which is why I want him sold next summer. we could loan him out, but I'd rather sell him and buy Omar Marmoush

So he probably gets confidence because he knows he is relied upon and the Uruguay team is (most likely) built round maximising his abilities. Anyway, I only have an issue if he misses clear chances and we drop points as a result. So, as of now, I actually don't mind him since LFC is doing so well overall. This would be useful if Darwin wasn't getting chances to score with Liverpool. He is, lots of them, he just misses them. Would he get a higher volume of chances if he was the main man and the whole team played for him? Yes, but he's not good enough to do that for at any club aiming to win league and CL. He needs to improve. Liverpool are giving him chances no other top club would, and Liverpool supporters are giving him their full backing as well whereas at other clubs he'd be whistled, waved handkerchiefs at and ostracized. We're all pulling for him, but he needs to improve and start delivering. Another way to look at it: if Liverpool had the sort of playstyle that is geared towards a single #9 shooting and scoring most, Darwin would be gone already. His erratic performances can be borderline tolerated because he's one of 5-6 forwards in a front 3 system.

(if he's not, therein lies the problem) Anyone practices something so often, there likely become really good at it no? If that's the case then, why is football any different? It's not, so why isn't Darwin improving if he is practicing, that is what is not making sense to me. Why is this rocket science?

    • @paulie-g
      @paulie-g 7 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @@Andre-hm5vo If this *were* rocket science, it would be tractable, ie given sufficient intelligence and effort, rocket science can be studied and understood. This is different. Darwin clearly *can* finish, as evidenced by the spectacular goals he's able to score. So the ability, in theory, is there. The problem is being able to execute in game situations reliably.
      This isn't a matter of understanding, it's a matter of being able to handle stress and adrenaline. It's like a fight-or-flight response - some people flee, some freeze, and some switch into beast mode, and it's not a given that any amount of training can change that in everyone.
      Yes, practice helps *some* people because it wires their brains to treat the in-game situation as a less stressful situation by analogy to the practice session, but it's not true for everyone. Ever hear players and managers say it's hard/impossible to train for penalties? Same thing. The problem isn't scoring the pen, any top level pro footballer scores them in training reliably. But you can't reproduce the stress of, say, taking a pen in a world cup shootout. This is why they all have those routines to place the ball, walk in a certain way, go through certain steps - they've trained with them and it's a neural hack to try to trick their brains into associating the moment with the training situation with no pressure, rather than a real pen with your whole country depending on you. Can't do that with a chance in open play obviously.
      My point is it's very unlikely that someone who displays so much desire and has the workrate Darwin has suddenly turns into a lazy slob who refuses to do finishing drills in training. For one, Slot wouldn't play him if he didn't see him do well in training..
      Players are human, and not all of our psychology is in our control, otherwise we wouldn't have addicts, or people with depression, or other mental health issues. Not everything can be 'fixed'. Usually, by the time players get to Liverpool, this sort of thing will already have 'clicked' for them in their heads, otherwise they wouldn't be at Liverpool. But you can often see it with players at other clubs, especially the 'late bloomers' - something changes and they're suddenly more effective, whether that's goal scoring or end product for wingers/fullbacks. It looks like a step change, rather than continuous improvement. For some, the likes of Abgnlahor or Zamora, it never happens. Incidentally, there are a number of long forgotten players who are known among pro footballers as being absolute superstars in training, but who never managed to do it in games. When they talk among themselves on podcasts this often comes up. This is true in other fields of endeavour as well. I know a concert violinist who is absolutely brilliant, but her nerves made it impossible for her to perform, and she practiced at least 6 hours each day since she was 4 years old until she was 25, that's more than any football player has ever trained.

I feal that he is such a great person and, when in form, a fantastic player. I would like to see him some day come back to Benfica, he never won much with the club and he definitely deserves it.

    Honestly, we have to start accepting players for who they are, not who we want them to be. Our expectations are literally the difference between who they are (reality) and perfection (which doesn't exist btw).
    Fans turn into that aunt/uncle mom/dad that just talk about how you could do better at school no matter how good you do lol

    Writing from Uruguay here🙋🏼 Uruguayans know nothing about discipline, and ballers are rather intuitive/instinctive than hard workers. Forlán was an exception but he does not come from an average family and had a different mentality. Suárez was exceptionally talented, being one of the best centre forwards in the history of football. Núñez is good but not as good as Suárez and doesn't have Forlán's mindset. I think he should work on his decision-making under pressure, which might not even have to be addressed entirely on the pitch but rather with the help of a neuroscientist. I hope he'll start scoring a ton of goals soon.

    In the two games vs Liverpool for Benfica, he looked like a sniper. Those finishes including the disallowed efforts were not just clinical but surgical.
    I'm my mind, after that game he was a different player to how he's turned out at Liverpool.
    If I'm ever not watching a game and I hear Liverpool have scored, I get this feeling where I'm really hoping, as I look up the scorer that the name 'Nunez' is what I'll see. Unfortunately it's becoming less and less the case.
    I'm still a little hopeful but it's beginning to look like he's not going to be what I want him to be.
    I still really, really want him to succeed.

    I think he is a Player that needs Space to properly Function and utilize his Chaotic Style of Play, under Klopp and now under Slot, he doesn't have the Tactical Nous to play on the Left and he doesn't have the Calmness to be Effective as a Number 9. I feel like he needs to totally reinvent himself, especially his understanding of the Game and that means learning to Calm Down and not rely on Overly Emotionally Tense Moments to be Effective.
    He has the tools to be very Effective as a Striker/Forward, but honestly, its all in his hands, if he badly wants to improve, he would...

      It was ridiculous. Two inch perfect shot from not easy angles running at speed. I do not think Newcastle was ever the same after that.
      For a few brief weeks, Newcastle seemed like an up and coming team. Up a goal against a 10 man Liverpool seemed to buttress that argument. Then losing to a 10 man Liverpool team made them look very midtable.

    I love Darwin and respect his overall contribution on the pitch be it coming back and defending and pressing to get the goal back.. creating attacking moves assisting Mo and Co' etc., etc. it's difficult not to love him. I've also believe and still believe he has it in him to up his game and be that lethal striker but the sad part is Liverpool will not just keep playing him until he gets it right which is pretty much what Benfica did... so his chances of clicking are much less compared to Benfica.. it's not just the opponents because the man does get through on goal... but unless Slot just insists on playing him with a no matter what type of approach then it probably won't happen for him :(

    Darwin HAS changed. 2 years ago he would lash out in the Southampton game. 2 years ago he wouldnt backtrack. He is slowly becoming more Firminho rather than Cavani. He is hothead and (in footballing terms) immature for his age. But he is getting there, I believe in him! He puts the work to earn out trust, 100%!

    What's interesting re: Darwin...fans in the stadium and in the city seem to love him.
    Fans online want him gone.
    It's indicative of a greater culture shift in football. Online fans are much more fickle and tend to give up on a player the moment he doesn't outperform expectations.
    Like, Darwin is an amazing backup striker to Jota. Different playstyle, his pace and strength are pretty much 2nd to none in the EPL, and if he had cost 10M instead of 80M I honestly think most criticism would stop (I may be naive). Divock Origi never really got serious criticism from LFC fans, even before he became a late-game GOAT.
    It isn't Darwin's fault that his price tag was high.

    50 years of supporting LFC
    And sorry to be blunt but I've waited for Nunez to start smashing in the goals
    But it's not happening any time soon
    That's his job as a striker let's not forget that .
    Last season @ the end he cost us big time I think 🤔 the last five games he missed so many chances if he'd put them away it's possible we could have won the league.
    He's a million miles away from the greats
    Rushie, Aldridge, Keegan's, Fowler's, Torres, & my fav (Suarez, ) BEAST
    If Jotta could stay match fit but hes getting more inurjed 😬
    Even Ronny Rosential from Israel had a better ratio of goals than Nunez 🤣
    And Ron wasn't a bad player .
    It's time to let him go & get someone who's an absolute beast a prolific goal.machine
    Good job we have king Salah
    Otherwise we'd be F---- .
