Incredibly underrated video, no top whatever list has any right being this witty and interesting. One of very few youtube videos I have recommended to friends
Wanted to just skip to the top 10 but your commentary added so much that I ended up watching all 4 and a half hours. Definitely one of my favorite youtube videos for sure
now that i finally finished this darn thing i can say that even if i might disagree with a small number of entires on the list i thin kyou did about as good a job as is possible to do on this! your passion and enthusiasm really comes through on the games that i know you have played, and for the ones i know you haven't played, you've done a great job at truly understanding what it was that made people love those games. if i didn't know you, i wouldnt be able to tell what games you had and hadnt played. the intro alone to this video is expertly written, funny, and deeply insightful as to the philosophy that made this video. an astronomical project that you've really delivered on. well done, man
I was going to write a death threat, but CTR on the list but no Mario Kart is an opinion I respect far more than any questionable placement could possibly enrage me. Fair play Mr. Fudj.

Been working my way through this list for the past two weeks, wow what a masterclass on all fronts. Your writing was so funny and thoughtful and insightful throughout, had no idea which games you hadn’t played, and your music and editing were always on point. Can’t imagine the amount work this project must of taken, and very excited to see what’s up your sleeve next! The world needs more people being unabashedly themselves, ideally uploading it as 4.5 hour TH-cam videos
It’s gonna take me about a dozen poop breaks to get through this so I want to congratulate you on finishing this before I go into blinding rage from game placement
2:32 Fudj has truly become the absurd man. He does what he does not for its permanence but for the saje of recognizing the absurd. He seeks a quantity of experiences which bring quality to his life and not the other way around. Video essay TH-cam is his boulder: one must imagine Fudj happy. Albert Camus would be proud. Me personally, I can't wait to keep watching
Great video, thx for the huge amount of effort u put into this for us! (I am concentrating every ounce of my body to not cry about the actual top 100 ranking)
Your ability to write a script that flows so well game to game is honest chef's kiss. Awesome work here, would love to see a video of your top 100 if you haven't already made one
Would’ve been very cool if you had included some bullet hell shmups like DoDonPachi, Ketsui, Ikaruga, Radiant Silvergun, Mushihimesama and ZeroRanger. Those games are some of the most neglected, but best designed games there are. Once you realize the games are supposed to be beaten with one credit, the design starts to make a lot more sense. These games have some of the tallest skill ceilings I have ever seen. Highly recommend the channel The Electric Underground if you want to learn more about shmups and arcade game design.
I'm personally perplexed by the complete lack of RTS games (or _any_ strategy games) or sim / management games. Heck, _Minecraft_ is the closest the list comes to MMOs (aside from a brief mention of _FFXIV)._ Aside from _Tetris,_ I think all the games were first-person? Is that right? Was that intentional?
its because Fudj is a filthy late millennial/Gen Z casual whose never been in a proper arcade who would crumble at the sight of a danmaku, hence Undertale being the only thing approaching schmup consideration. Luv u Fudj
The story about your brother and gen 2 was heart wrenching. I can say I’ve had a similar experience in my life and hearing your testimony was therapeutic. It would probably make a banger of its own video since the substance and heart is certainty there.
Amazing video enjoyed every bit of it; easily couldve watched it all in one sitting if i didnt actively stop myself and watch in 4 sessions or so. Here's to more swapping palettes!!
This video was such a great blend of humor and genuine opinion pieces, which is a quality of your stuff I've always adored :) probably one of your best works to date (and I don't say that just because number 1 is in like my top 3 favorite games of all time, although I love you platonically for it Brad)
Call of Duty combined with Halo may be too powerful of a game for the world to handle. It could sink cities and destroy relationships. It could doom us all. Best not to listen to that kid...
This is an incredible video! Please keep shouting it out in your other videos as I’m kinda pissed I needed to find out via you rather than my algorithm. This shit is right up my alley
Overall impact and recognizability. Concepts from Ms Pacman are still being used in contemporary games, whilst Red Dead's legacy is only just starting to be felt (even within its own sequel). But that's, like, just my opinion, man...
I love the number of concerned folks attacking this comment who clearly: 1. Didn't watch even the first part of the video 2. Missed that PaletteSwap liked the comment
I havent played a LOT of these games, but the games ive deeply enjoyed have made this list, and for that I thank you. for this list being your own opinion, im very satisfied by the placement and mention of these games. Seeing my personal favorites like doom, hollow knight, undertale, minecraft, ff7, mass effect, and many more, makes me want to replay these games all over again. Thanks for the great video.
The clown taking over the world joke sent me 😂😂 that was so subtly laid in there that I had to rewind it and cracked up over and over again. This video has been incredible!
Brilliant list, thanks for making it. I'll be trying to check off as many of these as possible, even though I'm appalled at every game that was and was not on the list.
I was surprised at how engaged I was with this 4.5 hour list. I can understand a lot of these choices even if I haven't played half of the games listed
Okay, I know I made my memey philosophy-ish comment when I was just starting the video, but I do wanna appreciate the video in its entirety. Besides, it probably boosts engagement, so, a win's a win? Usually a top 100 list would seem uninteresting to me but the start of his video absolutely hooked me. It's my favorite part of the video. Specifically the "You're wrong and I'm wrong" moment was really engaging. I find myself appreciating this video a lot (even if for example I think Persona 3 Reload is just slightly better than Persona 5). I like that the list isn't supposed to be definitive, and that even if not definitive it's still *worth making*. I just think it's neat! And props to Fudj for the Herculean effort. I did want to also comment on the number 1 placement. I find the argument that "Resident Evil 4 is close to perfection" argument to be fascinating. For the record, I haven't played the game - but if I tried to apply that standard to decide my number 1, it'd probably be Hollow Knight. Although there's a fundamental difference in how we approach this. I agree that not giving anything a 10/10 because "it's not perfect" is counter-productive, but I don't think a "near perfect game" is necessarily what I personally prefer for a 10/10. For me, a game is a 10/10 if it compensates for its imperfections, if after playing, you can remember the imperfections but everything else still makes you want to give the game a 10 regardless. For me, this is Hollow Knight. I will forever hate Radiant Markoth, but I beat it all the same, and the rest of the game entirely makes up for design flaws like his fight. So, it's really curious to me how we can approach "perfection" and "10/10s" differently. Also, even if I haven't played Resident Evil 4, I prefer the remake because, as someone who is from Spain, I was really annoyed when I found out that the VAs in the original aren't even from Spain. I'm very glad they fixed it in the Remake, it sounds soooo much better for a setting in Spain. I feel a lot more "represented" (weird context to say it in, I know). Felt worth mentioning given that you point out the setting as unique. Overall, great video! In the end, my more memy philosophy-ish comment wasn't entirely ironic - this really fits the archetype of the absurd man in the best ways, cheers
Now that I have finished this video I have some closing thoughts before I teleport to your location. This was really well done man. Seriously this video was a delight to sit through. This may very well be the most acceptable top 100 list of games ever made. Your commentary (and the commentary from the rest of the team) was great throughout the whole video. Bravo. Anyway, Terraria isn't on this list and you know the consequences. (Edit: Did youtube delete my original comment? Gosh you can't even joke about threats anymore)
Good list. We have the same number 1. It's hard to rank 100 games, so here's my personal top 50 video games of all time: 1. Resident Evil 4 (2005) 2. Super Metroid 3. Super Mario Bros 3 4. Breath of the Wild 5. Ninja Gaiden Black 6. Metal Gear Solid 3 7. Chrono Trigger 8. Metroid Prime 9. Devil May Cry 3 10. Street Fighter 2 (Arcade) 11. A Link to the Past 12. Mario Galaxy 2 13. I honestly would love a followup examining the data from this. Who is the most common publisher? Which decade had the most games? What genre had the most games? It would be really interesting to watch
You talked about this big thing that scared you for so long I was just thinking "please dear god don't be a puppet, I do not want to witness Fudj's puppeteer arc" so glad it was this instead
Loved the list. Good variety and can tell a lot of effort went into it. A shout out for Simpsons Hit and Run that did't make the list. Hope the holiday in Germany was sehr Gut!
Even if there are some personal favorites not hear (Notably Ori and the Will of the Wisps) and some games I didn't personally like on there, considering the goal of this list I think this was the most respectable list that could have possibly come out the other end.
I personally prefer the Touhou project, but I get it- Kirby was my bread and butter for a few years between Planet Robobot and Forgotten Land's release.
Oh shit I think you're right hahaha, it was originally MvC3 on the list and then I changed it at the last minute bc everyone told me ppl preferred MvC2! -Fudj
Watched the entire video, what a phenomenal video, fantastic job, and I hope your brain and hands, and voice didnt suffer too much from such a monumental task I was really shocked that Subnautica had no mentin whatsoever as I had considered its storytelling and immersiveness the best I had ever seen in gaming, and thats not even mentioning the soundtrack, but i also realize that thats probaby my bias talking because I just have a love for sirvival crafting games
"#1........... Resident Evil 4" I may not quite agree, but I respect the hell out of that pick. Playing it for the first time on GC was an unforgettable experience. And yeah, the regenerators added so much to change up the late game dynamics. There are very few times I've ever had as much fun playing, well, anything.
This man produced over 4 hours of bangers, funny scripting and all his rationale. I'm a sado that listens/watches youtube a llot. This really stood out and despite disagreements that's the fun of games and different points of view. Gained a sub man 6 months late to this
The Super Mario Bros 3 brought back some nostalgia. I must’ve been about 10yrs old and my dad took me to see The Wizard at Star Theaters. I’m not sure if it’s true, but it’s the way I remember it, this is where they announced SMB3 as a major reveal in the movie. I recently showed the movie to my boys and it still holds up. It’s a great movie to show how important Nintendo felt back then.
Chrono Trigger didn't make #1 so your list is wrong. Sorry not sorry. Jokes aside nearly all of my personal fav games made the list and I can't wait to be listening to this in the background and adding games I have never played from this list to my backlog. Quality content 👍
its crazy you made this one video because we both know that making this 10 videos would've been so much better for the videos to sleep to crowd (thats me)
Is it very weird that, considering myself someone who plays and is interested in games, I've only played 9 of these games? Is that fucked up? Does that make me a freak? The games are Celeste, Pokemon Black 2, Mario Galaxy 2, Mario 3, Tetris, Portal 2, Mario World, Minecraft, and Breath of the Wild. You can bump it up to 12 if you include Half-Life, Fortnite, and a Link to the Past, each of which I've played
Insanely good video. I’d say ur English degree paid off…some of the jokes made me lol and that’s super rare for me. I like FF7 impale cuck, earthquake jenga Overwatch balance, happy that old people are dying for their bad opinions, and beta testers off the top of my head. And that intermission where u highlight the effort that u put into it-I could tell even before u said anything. There is a lot of low effort yet strangely successful content on YT, and it’s tragic that this vid has any less than a million views. Best of luck on ur future projects ♥️
Top 10 predictions (in no particular order): Mario 64, Sonic Adventure 2, FFVII, Ocarina of Time, Breath of the Wild, Mega Man X, Minecraft, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Space Invaders and... hmm I'm gonna throw in a pick *I* want to see and say Pizza Tower. Edit: Well I got some but I definitely see my own type of bias in comparison now lol. Also you are a coward for not putting Pizza Tower in the list
They're the best overall , not even debatable imo , they've created by far the most globally beloved classics and contributed the most iconic worlds , characters , and soundtracks. Their creativity and style Is second to none , inimitable.
I’m not gonna lie…your “didn’t make it “ list triggered the hell outta me. There were about ten I was like WTF???? 😂😂😂😂. I gotta respect your list though.
You know I actually really appreciate that someone finally had the guts to say that Super Mario Galaxy 2 is better than Odyssey. Galaxy 1 & 2 will always be my favorite games of all time. 1 because I grew up with it and 2 because I think it perfected platforming Edit: also mad respect to you for making this list I don't think I'd have it in me to do this
Fun video, your writing is really hitting a new peak imo! That said, I did want to offer some hopefully constructive criticism. I mean this with no hate, but I feel like some of the other writers didn’t come into the video with the same prompt/creative vision? Like some of them are trying to crack some simple jokes, and others are doing literally zero jokes and just wrote an abbreviated IGN review. And both kinda feel out of place next to your wittier writing and far more creative jokes. Obviously there’s only so much you can do to handle others’ creative output on a group project, but as it stands I think the bits where the other writers chime in is really jarring and I’m afraid I had to skip past some of them because they were sorta killing the Fudj comedy vibe a little bit. I feel bad for saying it because I don’t want to make them feel bad, but they really do feel out of place when the video is dominated by that classic Fudj writing. As someone new to watching Palette Swap, I didn’t come away with a clear idea of what the site is trying to achieve. Is it a comedy outlet? Is it just bog standard games journalism and you are a standout because you’re using it as a vehicle for your Fudj comedy career? What shouldn’t expect when I watch Palette Swap videos in the future? Honestly even after four hours of this video, I’m not really sure. In the future it would probably feel better if there was a more consistent tone established early on so all people participating knew what they had to deliver. That said, if I’m gonna be honest, I think your comedy writing is just leagues ahead of the rest and I only hope the other writers can catch up. Otherwise I kinda feel like they’d be holding you back.
there is no way I will ever agree to ranking 3 and 1. After this game I started to hate quick time events. But like for all game the argumentation was pretty good. god job on that

I love how the Yakuza community just sneaks into every top games list with comments like these.
As for me, Yakuza 0 is number 1
to me the yakuzas are great as single games but weak as a series if that makes sense, the tropes get way too old way too quick
no debate
Incredibly underrated video, no top whatever list has any right being this witty and interesting. One of very few youtube videos I have recommended to friends
WHAT. NO. HOW COULD YOU. (I have not watched the video yet)

An incredible top 100. I loved it. Fudj has such a unique take and style. Thanks for the premium content.
4:02:10 The timing of Cloud casting Beta, immaculate
Was very very proud of that
One of the best “top 100” style videos I’ve ever seen. Watched about 2.5h so far, very polished and well thought out. Well done guys

You CANNOT possibly think super monkey ball 2 is WORSE than Prety (2015)
"No Metroid Fusion."
HOW DARE YOU?!
"2 per franchise rule."
Understandable, have a nice day.
2 Franchises rule is kind of nonsense tbh. Sometimes a game series just has that many hits. They had 4 Fromsoft games and 3 Zelda games anyway lol

He says he got it off a dead body. The question for me is if the body was dead "when he found it," so to speak.
Wii Sports Resort but not OG Wii Sports is an unfathomably based pick. Too low tho, deserves the #1 spot if we're being objective

Gosh you can't even joke about threats anymore)
my palettes been swapped
this is a great nicely balanced ranking. you never know what these types of vids will be like but this is legit. thank you!

I honestly would love a followup examining the data from this. Who is the most common publisher? Which decade had the most games? What genre had the most games? It would be really interesting to watch
Patrolling the Mojave almost makes you wish for a nuclear winter.
it's the legend himself
Manged to sit thru the whole thing over the last couple days. Gotta say, Good list!
Oh yeah, Shovel knight came out on your birthday? Guess what, portal came out on MY birthday ... in Australia
Absolutely perfect Top 5. Loved listening to your thoughts on them as well.
As a youtube commenter I am an expert in all things The Top 100 Games Of All Time so I will have much to say to you, Mr. Palette Swap.
Another Essex boy!
Seriously brilliant video. Will give it many more hours of my life in the future.
🤣🤣 Kevin is one of my best friends and his sections are the best!
I can't believe you put Super Monkey Ball 2 at 100. It should have been 99. Whole list is void.
Even if there are some personal favorites not hear (Notably Ori and the Will of the Wisps) and some games I didn't personally like on there, considering the goal of this list I think this was the most respectable list that could have possibly come out the other end.
I wish more indie games were on this list like Hotline Miami or Binding of Isaac.
Pretend this is a vile death threat I cant bring myself to say one to you my love
Personally…
Kirby, best games, best franchise, best lore, best memes, best characters, best wholesome and best everything else.
I personally prefer the Touhou project, but I get it- Kirby was my bread and butter for a few years between Planet Robobot and Forgotten Land's release.
I swear I saw MVC2 on the list of games at the start that WON'T be included, but I'm happy to see it get in regardless. love that game
Oh shit I think you're right hahaha, it was originally MvC3 on the list and then I changed it at the last minute bc everyone told me ppl preferred MvC2!
-Fudj
@@PaletteSwapMag that's a tough call to make... I think MVC3 is the better game in pretty much every way, but I still prefer MVC2 personally.
Watched the entire video, what a phenomenal video, fantastic job, and I hope your brain and hands, and voice didnt suffer too much from such a monumental task
I was really shocked that Subnautica had no mentin whatsoever as I had considered its storytelling and immersiveness the best I had ever seen in gaming, and thats not even mentioning the soundtrack, but i also realize that thats probaby my bias talking because I just have a love for sirvival crafting games
The test results have come back and it turns out you were entirely correct here.
The biggest reveal of this video is that Brad has a fucking sick murkrow tattoo wtf.
Also murkrow is in my top 3, I know, shocking.
"#1........... Resident Evil 4"
I may not quite agree, but I respect the hell out of that pick.
Playing it for the first time on GC was an unforgettable experience. And yeah, the regenerators added so much to change up the late game dynamics. There are very few times I've ever had as much fun playing, well, anything.
Re4 original
This man produced over 4 hours of bangers, funny scripting and all his rationale. I'm a sado that listens/watches youtube a llot. This really stood out and despite disagreements that's the fun of games and different points of view. Gained a sub man 6 months late to this
Finally. Someone who understands Star Wars is for people who peaked in highschool. That’s my takeaway from this entire list. Thank you for that.
Sometimes the algorithm serves us a gem. This is one of those.
I love how the vague nature of the soulsborne series let 4 of them be in the list. Definitely seems fair, though.
great script- underrated channel!
Where do I find the written list or do I have to do it myself 😩
Deserves a million views. Great vid
How does this only have 30k 😢. We love you Fudj
Just started the video, as long as outer wilds is on it I will not send death threats
Please add timestamps for all games listed
He might not have put Xenoblade 3, the best one, but he put Xenoblade 1, so I'll let it slide lmao
Chrono Trigger didn't make #1 so your list is wrong. Sorry not sorry. Jokes aside nearly all of my personal fav games made the list and I can't wait to be listening to this in the background and adding games I have never played from this list to my backlog. Quality content 👍
Slowly working through this one and it's really damn good
I have played very few games, but now that i know Ive played (and finished) number one, I can finally call myself an epic gamer.
No World of Warcraft, Max Payne 2 and Ghost of Tsushima? 😮 Yoooo
its crazy you made this one video because we both know that making this 10 videos would've been so much better for the videos to sleep to crowd (thats me)
Is it very weird that, considering myself someone who plays and is interested in games, I've only played 9 of these games? Is that fucked up? Does that make me a freak?
The games are Celeste, Pokemon Black 2, Mario Galaxy 2, Mario 3, Tetris, Portal 2, Mario World, Minecraft, and Breath of the Wild.
You can bump it up to 12 if you include Half-Life, Fortnite, and a Link to the Past, each of which I've played
Sounds like you know what to play for the next like 20 years haha. I would start with Yakuza 0 or Dark Souls, those games are the best
This dude born funny I swear
Seeing my personal favourite game ever at number 3 on this list makes me very happy and brought forth a lot of satisfaction in me!
I hate that I have to come to terms with the fact that people actually like any of the Kingdom Hearts games
Because they're rad as hell.
intros wayyyyy too long
Top 10 predictions (in no particular order): Mario 64, Sonic Adventure 2, FFVII, Ocarina of Time, Breath of the Wild, Mega Man X, Minecraft, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Space Invaders and... hmm I'm gonna throw in a pick *I* want to see and say Pizza Tower.
Edit: Well I got some but I definitely see my own type of bias in comparison now lol. Also you are a coward for not putting Pizza Tower in the list
Am I in some bizarro world where strategy games don’t exist?
I'm at 83 and the fact I didn't see pathologic on the games that won't appear list I'm still holding out hope for it to show up.
a little disappointed it wasn't here tbh but I hope mr fudj plays pathologic 2
great video btw
Just want to point out... damn japanese really know how to make videogames!
1 because I grew up with it and 2 because I think it perfected platforming
Edit: also mad respect to you for making this list I don't think I'd have it in me to do this
5:30 RIP Super Mario Odyssey, my favorite game of all time… 🫡
My Top 2 were the top 2 here, so in my unbiased opinion, a 10/10 video
But like for all game the argumentation was pretty good. god job on that
CTR on the list over Mario Kart is truly noble of you.
