I like watching these videos when I have the time. I have 60 or so original 1960’s matchbox cars in two original cases and at least 40 are in excellent condition. There are a few that need restoration and I am tempted to try your techniques.

It's what weekends are made for, a cup of tea sat in bed and watching Martys Matchbox Makeover, doesn't get much better than that. Beautiful little restoration, near perfect on the colour match too. Next up to look forward to, Martys midweek unbox in.

I used to work for Radio Rentals as a TV engineer back in the day. Dents and bumps were commonplace on the majority of the service vehicles. Nice refurb job as always.

Thanks to you, Marty, I'm now collecting these original Lesney Matchbox Series cars. I have 3 nice Bedford Evening News vans, a Rentaset van, a Mercedes Ambulance, a Snow-trac, with several more on the way like a Coca-Cola Truck, BP Explorer, a Bedford Milk Truck, and a Commer Ice Cream van. I really enjoy your restorations, and thank you for sharing your hobby interest with me. I learn a lot about these vehicles from watching.

7.40am Sunday in Rochester (the real one in the UK, for all our American 'chums'! :-D ) and just enjoyed my 'Marty-Fix' with a coffee. Marty - I wouldn't worry about the kerbside decal not being 100% - a little occasional hiccup is what a collector in years to come will find adds value to your work! Imperfect examples of all kids of things are often extremely valuable on the collectors markets... don't beat yourself up over it.

    Thanks Marty!
    Just two things.
As you said, it’s always better to add darker colours to lighter colours. Otherwise, a lot of the lighter colour is used to ‘dilute’ the saturation of the darker colour..
And adding the green is a great alternative to using black to darken a paint colour.
I would suggest that viewers learn about the ‘colour wheel’ and ‘warm’ and ‘cool’ colours.
As the paint mixing progresses, it becomes obvious if the colour needs ‘warmed up’ or ‘cooled down’.
22 years working in education with the last 7 in Art & Design taught new a lot about patience and colours (hues).

Great restoration, as always! A tip that may help though: Make a checklist of all the things going into a particular restoration beforehand and thoroughly inspect the model for damage and flaws. You may have noticed the dented front bumper before you started, and if the item was listed there is no chance of skipping that step once you get to it. You are one of the undisputed masters of diecast restoration on TH-cam, but mistakes are what makes us all distinctly human.

It's becoming quite evident that terrestrial commercial broadcast radio, is dying, in virtually every corner of the world. Maybe not in my lifetime, however, my son and daughter are in their thirties, and I'm certain that they will bear witness to the days when the last radio station on earth says "goodbye, it's been a great 130 years.

Marty, can i raise a couple of friendly points? If you are down off the roof that is! 😃
Firstly, and i think i speak for all your subscribers when i say, there is no ‘on time’! Your videos are ready when they are ready. If they are delayed because you have to restart so be it. They are your models so don’t rush them for us viewers!
Secondly. Are you 100% certain the van has been damaged, having looked i reckon its a casting defect from when it was new. So its original to that model.
    Another excellent makeover. Thanks.

I once had my ladder fall down while I was up on my roof blowing leaves out of the rain gutters.....the ladder was just resting against the edge of the roof, and it was a gusty windy day. No Koala to blame. I foresaw an ordeal of standing on the roof yelling in hopes that a neighbor or passerby would notice and come put the ladder back up. Luckily, I had used a long rope to pull the blower up to the roof after I climbed up there, and I had tied one end of the rope to the top rung of the ladder, and stuck the other end of the rope into the downspout to keep it in place. I was able to pull the ladder back up by that means, although as it was an extension ladder, there was a risk of the bottom half sliding off as I pulled it back up. Ever since then, I use two large double-sided Velcro straps, wrapped around the ladder joint, to keep the two halves locked together, and two strong spring clamps and a short bungee cord to lash the top of the ladder to the edge of the roof, or the rain gutter, to prevent recurrence.
    Nice Matchbox vid, though.....
