Hi Robert, I'm glad you enjoyed the Slovakian countryside. Living in the UK I think with hindsight many of the lines closed in the 60's as a result of the Beeching report would not have closed in light of today's traffic congestion around many of Britain's towns and cities. Thank you for the recommendation, I'll take a look U-Boats - November 1996. Take care, Tim from Britain's Sunny South Coast.

Hello Chuck, it is hard to believe so many rural branch lines survive in Slovakia. I'm glad you are enjoying following my Slovakian adventures, the best is yet to come, just need to find time to edit and upload everything. Now I'm working on my own project, customers keep giving me mold tools to repair, some are asking me to make new tools, I keep thinking, where was all the work when I was quiet? I'm not complaining, I think the UK will experience a bumpy ride as it leaves the EU, I just hope the gain will outweigh the pain, I think it will, but it's going to take a few years for Britain to forge new trading relations with countries around the world. Half the population are excited about the future, whilst the other half express reservations about the UK's future outside the EU. The weather has been wet and windy here, although it is not really cold yet. Take care. Tim.

Hello Tim! Oh dear, the future are unpredictable, and many people, include and me, who may be “look beyond the horizon”, in fact have very limited look for... Because too many unpredictable factors in this world... For example, -- excuse me if I again saddled my favorite skate! -- I very good known, and it's indisputable fact for me of many-many years, that the global climate are tendention to fall: so being in contrary to the opinion of the notorious “global warming” imposed by scoundrels! But I too however, even I believed that I would have time to go into another world until the climate deteriorated completely. But even I could not foresee that the solar processes would "subside" so soon: in the autumn of 2016! Which of course has dramatically accelerated the processes of extreme weather instability over the past two years, and the fall of the Earth’s climate!.. So the fact are best reflection to having many unpredictable factors of the human world.
In economics the factors, who is many unpredictable, are too much. However, dominance of stereotypes and there are all of these dogmas, really devilish ones by destructive one-sidedness and bias, further aggravates this already difficult situation.
For example, I knew an unrecognized Amerikan economist, who was in tough intellectual battle with mainstream views, and who predicted the current fall of world economies whole in 80s of the last century --- the notorious “global economic crisis” 2008+ who are hit the whole world, which is still falling. Although and he certainly could not name the exact date, but waited for onset of the crisis, and year after year constantly giving clarifying, corrective forecasts. He was considered such a “Luther” in the economy, was hated by all these bastards from the “elites”, and in every way spoiled his life! End-screw of it, he was right, not global pack of banderlogov (by clever Kipling). And so on and so forth.
As for processes that inevitably begin with the disintegration of a certain system of economic relations, a clear and very recent example is disintegration of the “Eastern bloc” at the turn of 1989/91. This disintegration process of economic relations hit Bulgaria very hard, in view of its former close economic integration into this block. Many enterprises immediately closed, people massively lost their jobs (and still unemployment in Bulgaria is quite high), so that at least young and strong people began to leave the country en masse... So in Bulgaria, too, all external economic relations after 1990 was needed urgently rebuild from orientation to the West... Of course, these processes are very little predictable. (In contrary to inevitable long ago disintegration process of that diabolical northeast “Mordor”, of course.) Although very fact of the “paradigm shift” already dictates to intelligent people the vector of necessary actions.
Sure I known't what need do it in England because I have too little knowledge about the current situation. But its sadly that you need so hard work now. It's poor situation when man in whole haven't work, but it's bad situation when the work are too much... Is not it? Take care. Chuck

Hi Chuck, so you are back on your hobby-horse and as usual it made interesting reading, especially as you live in Bulgaria and witnessed the break up of the old "Eastern Block" first hand. To an engineer the coming of the financial crisis was obvious, you can't spend more than you earn, it's still happening today because if a politician tells the truth he/she will not get voted in. Basically the electorate gets the politicians it deserves, after all the only way they can get voted in is by promising a future we can't afford, the only way to make up the shortfall is to borrow the money, eventually all lines of credit will be exhausted and there will be another financial crisis. There are non so blind as those who want to be.
I would love to bequeath a debt free United Kingdom to the the next generation, but selfish greed will make sure that doesn't happen. I live well within my means, I wish others would do the same, after all they won't die if they don't have the latest car, television or other unnecessary luxury item, but the debt burden they leave will have to be paid for by their children and their children. Why can't people see the blindingly obvious? or does greed really make them blind. I love my children and I would willingly go without to give them a better chance in life, the only trouble is, persuading everyone else to do the same, because there will always be the idiot politician who will put personal gain above common sense.
I saw many closed factories as I toured Bulgaria, some looked as though all the workers just didn't come to work one day, all the machinery was still in place, even the coffee cups were on the tables. Some of the villages were very pretty, but many of the houses were in ruins because the owners had left for new lives in Germany, England and elsewhere in Western Europe, only the elderly and less able youngsters were left behind, the EU has passed the death sentence on those villages, the freedom of movement has been disastrous for many East European Country's. To compete in a competitive world you need your best people, that won't happen if they have all left, the gap in living standards between rich and poor European country's will continue to grow. History tells us this in likely to result in civil unrest. How I wish people would look to the past to predict the future. Greed is the enemy of common sense "I want one and I want one now", translated into common sense simply means "I don't care about anyone but myself"
The world never learns, it just finds new ways to destroy itself. How I long for an honest sensible Government, it will never happen because people vote for whoever offers the best dream (inevitably a nightmare for those who have to pick up the bill).
I'm still smiling, I have lived through the hard times caused by several financial crisis and come out of the other side OK and a little wiser, I know when a politician is lying to further their own career, unfortunately the young voters actually believe the rubbish politicians spout, so history will continue to repeat itself.
Its warm for the time of year, but overcast, the lawn is covered in fallen leaves, winter is not far away now, the seasons are as predictable as economic cycles, yet every new generation thinks it knows better. My wife has already turned the heating on. Stay warm and take care. Tim.

Hi Tim! Well, we can easily arrange grand races on our love-skates, can we? 😆
I thing, the “Eastern block” falls is best sample for understanding to simple truth: neither violence, nor political spells, nor political games will save from the collapse of that system, which is fundamentally unviable: not relying on nature in whole, on nature: everything in general, and to purely personal nature too.
But I'm thinking abot such personal weaknesses, just greed -- apart from clinical, extreme cases -- cannot distort the essence of a person so much, and lead to such terrible consequences as now! After all, there were always a lot of greed people. However, they were opposed by sensible people in whom greed was blocked deliberately or not so just simple, -- for example, by believing in the Absolute: eternal and incorruptible, unlike all earthly people, especially those in power, isn’t it? So the fall in the current humanity as general disgrace is quite natural!
I have just stressed of many times how poor that morality and how high ethics in past, century and half of it, and especially in “Victorian times”, for example, as was predominantly before, or its almost complete absence it now, -- are first cause of the everything of the fall! But devilishly cunning in essence, sophistic and false constructions of the completely sinful mind of the well-known bastards, who give to the world most malicious, destructive virus was introduced into minds of the masses; by the way, which also pedalling greed for another's property there are too! /And is it not for me, -- who lived under such the diabolical political regime, and I was known it, and hate precisely such the ideology, -- and after all for me -- may nor to know root of the cases, nor to understand all of this?.. It's rhetorical question, of course./
No, such destructive greed in people is specially cultivated by those who own all, practically all real assets of this world! -- Of course, not by direct, legally enforceable title, but in a devilishly cunning way: by giving money to make purchases on credit, giving a considerable percentage of money to borrow -- they say, the money needed is literally everything that no matter what are in the world!..
The usury percentage was poison even of the natural economy -- even in the oldest times, for example in the ancient economy or medieval times. But then his authority over man was somehow held back by Christian ethics, isn’t it?
With the Christian ethics was fall, after the devilishly cunning disavowal of Christian: by slander and denial of necessity the theology princips in whole, -- is lie that science allegedly is incompatible with belief in the Absolute, and so on. And only strong connection of a person with higher aspirations are best way to prevent than greedily stuffing his wallet or strive uncontrollably for only one pleasure, moreover -- envying the mortal envy of all who are richer and is “more successful” than yourself! -- this are root of the evil and heart of the snake of this world...
So this is main question not so much an economic cases, but as moral and ethical priciples, isn't it?
The real economy is a purely “physical economy”: when real people act in this, they produce real goods that many people are willing to buy; in this certain services are provided to those who really need them, but not artificially inflate the demand to the heaven high levels -- by pressing on the far from the best sides of the human soul ... And of course, real points of the economy is not just manipulation of banking numbers of accounts percentage -- so is it inflated, purely virtual values! -- which led to the notorious just “financial crisis”, which in fact are depend of the long debt causes, so usurious world crisis! That was understood perfectly well by the American dissident economist. And I understand the same thing.
Stay warm too, and take care. 🍷 Chuck

Hello Chuck, who needs to read a book when they've got a friend like Chuck. Once again I enjoyed reading your comment, we agree on so many things, good beer, pretty bar maids and beautiful mountain landscapes, Oh yes, and did I mention those terrible politicians. Religion no longer plays the part in life it once did, whether one believes in a god or not, the ten commandments have stood the test of time, they are as relevant today as the day they were written, still forming the basis of the laws many of us live by. Moral guidance used to come from a number of sources such as parents, religion, schooling and other mentors, sadly those good influences are being eroded by poor quality, often violet, self obsessed television. Girls have to suffer endless adverts telling them to spend money on expensive clothing, makeup, shoes, perfume, handbags etc, forgetting to mention their best asset - a friendly smile. So much pressure is put on the young to spend money they don't have on looking good and trying to be something they will never be, just to boost the profits of greedy overpriced brands. Brands hate happy, confident people because they don't need all the unnecessary props to enjoy life. Victorian values were about society as a whole, unlike today when self advancement is seen as the key.
I often look a bit scruffy, many of my cloths have seen better days, but the money I don't spend on fashion can be used for travelling instead, so much more fun than trying to look like some boring fashion statement.
We are constantly being told many young people suffer with mental problems, I believe a lot of the problem should laid at the door of television and the never ending barrage of adverts telling them they will become social pariahs if they don't conform to the latest fashion statements. Ah that's enough of that old rubbish, if fashion houses had to survive on what they could sell to me, most would go to the wall. How's the weather in Sandanski? it's still overcast and a bit chilly here. Turn the heating up, enjoy a mug of hot chocolate and a good book :-) Tim.

I am not sure whether passenger trains still run on this route and if they do, the rust on the rails suggests they don't go all the way to Muráň. As can be seen in the video, freight traffic originates from a number of locations along the line. Apart from a few children and a rough sleeper, the only people we see are railway staff.
