Many people in my family from Virginia and northern Georgia play the spoons it was just a normal thing for us to hear it till we didn’t... then they called us hillbillies and I said thank ya!

I play my spoons lots without using my knee and any bells . Me and my 14 year old played at tootsies in Nashville, tn. This year. She is good with her style though! Love to meet her one day.

My grandmother in Virginia use to sing this song to me whenever she would beat me. She would reign blows down upon my head and back, even whacked the hell out of me with a baseball bat a few times. She wouldn't stop beating me until she finished singing the whole song. I was usually pretty black and blue by the time the song was over. I kept Trying to run away and she would catch me and say stay still and take your medicine. If I ran she beat me even harder. This song brings back a lot of memories.

In the 70s, my uncles would get the spoons out, some pots and pans, and the 'comb and paper!' To keep me amused when I visit my nan, they still lived at home. They weren't very good, but it was fun. Nobody had any money, my nan kept all her old xmas cards for me to draw on the plain piece inside or on the back (its quality drawing paper as it happens, better than cheap kids drawing paper, and I developed a life long love of drawing). But my musical ability is about the same now as it was back then. I havent seen the comb and paper played since the 70s!
