I think that would be really interesting to know about the history of card collecting and why some cards are expensive and others are inexpensive. Do people still collect these cards? Thanks! Ps. Baseball cards first started to be used as advertising for cigarettes in the early 1900s. They would put a small piece of paper w a player and their name inside the pack of cigarettes. I may be wrong about the year, but a (maybe 1915?) Ty Cobb Card is the most expensive card and the only known one that was on the market is now owned by the Owner of the Arizona Cardinals football team.
I have no idea about baseball, but I still found this very relaxing. I really like your videos where you are going through old collections. Thanks was perfect for my Fathers Day lunchtime snooze!

I love your baseball cards videos. Very relaxing and nostalgic. I also have this set as a hand collared set. It’s still sitting in a box in my closet. I still semi-actively collect Jose Canseco. I have tons of his stuff from cards to game used baseballs and bats. Usually takes me a couple tries to get all the way through these videos due to me falling asleep. Thank you !

Unfortunately, the companies that printed baseball cards became so greedy around 1988-1994 that they mass produced cards to the point where they aren't worth the cardboard they're printed on. Monetary value anyway. I have this exact same complete set that my deceased grandfather bought me when I was kid so for me its priceless.
Side note...Jeff Conine hit a late inning go-ahead home run in the 1995 All-star game to give the American League the win. He was also named the 1995 All-star game MVP. He was a member of the Florida Marlins at the time.
The best way to determine the value of the cards is to look up the ebay completed sales for each card. Most of these are $.50 - $2.00. Griffey and Frank Thomas are probably your best cards. If you want more money for them then you can submit them to a grading company (PSA, BGS, SGC). However, submitting cards like this is a gamble because the only way you'll make money is if they get a 10 which is very tough to come by. The graders use a 10x magnifier. So if you closely inspect the cards for imperfections and dont see any then you can make a calculated gamble to get a 10. A griffey 10 can go for $100
My only goal at the moment is to thin down the collection to almost nothing. Had thought about keeping some worthless cards of favorite players but am now rethinking that position and may only keep the so called best of the best from each set/series. After that will probably do very little with them other than put them in single sleeves and get them out once in a while to look at. Oh, I also intend to database them to make it easier to follow their value.
Hope you do this with your other cards. This was so nice to watch and listen to. I know you have some Star Trek TNG ones and I saw you have hundreds of NBA ones.
Frank Thomas, Rickey Henderson, Roberto Alomar, Jeff Bagwell, Gary Carter, Jack Morris, Robin Yount, Tim Raines (Rock nickname) and Tom Glavine are also Hall of Famers. Deion Sanders however is not a baseball Hall of Famer.

If Deen's list is correct and most of those cards go for around 40 cents, and you have 600 (probably more like 900 cards counting all the extras), that's 240-360 bucks for that binder of "worthless" cards. That being said, you'd have to find someone willing to buy them all, which I have to admit probably wouldn't be worth it.
It's also that if someone wanted a complete set of these cards, it would only be about 14 dollars, so nobody would want to pay 200 dollars when they could get the same thing for much less.
Kinda breaks my heart that baseball cards are virtually worthless now...but at least it gives me a reason to never get rid of them lol no point anymore
If you haven't already, you certainly shouldn't throw the remaining cards away. I'm sure there are some subscribers here who would happily take them off your hands

I'd keep the Ken Griffy Sr cards just cause it was his last year playing ball and its one of the years father and son played on the same team.

Canseco was my favorite player...had around 300 different cards of him, most were off set prints. ( Can't remember the term for them)...good times
