I first discovered Belleria Pizzeria on Albert St. around 1965. The pizzette was the perfect pizza for one. I’ve lived in four states across the country since leaving Youngstown in 1975. Mr. Napier is right that there is no place better for having a choice of great pizza than Youngstown.

The wedding soup at Uptown is one of the best in the Valley. I was weaned on Elmton and Tangier's pizza. Elmton is still one of my favorites, along with Avalon Downtown. One thing that makes many of the Youngstown pizza's so good, is the inclusion of green peppers (And sweet red peppers too) in the sauce. Elmton, Tangier, Cornersburg, and others all have green peppers in the basic sauce. Newer places like Cocca's do not put peppers in the sauce, they have a good pizza, but their sauce is a little boring as a result. Sane goes for the chain pizza's sauce.

Little Jimmy's by YSU (now closed), The Elmton in Struthers, and the Powers Way place. The best of the best.

Nice Video! 🤗. I remember going to Belleria on Logan and Uptown Pizza with my granddad back in the 80s. In the 90s me and my mother discovered Wedgewood pizza. They hadn't yet built on South Ave so we had to go all the way out to the Austintown from the South side of Youngstown to get a pizza. There was also pizza they sold in the basement of St. Patrick's church back in the day. What memories. Now I want some pizza!

Joseph, the first and only Belleria was located on Albert Street. I think I'm going with the Elmton, just a great pie. I like Uptown, too.

Great video! Thank you. It is hard to pick a favorite. Uptown Pizza's Little Joe and a cup of wedding soup is wonderful. Their sauce...amazing. Pizza Joe's veggie pizza is another excellent choice. I know the Elmton only from my younger years when a former boyfriend took me there on a date. It was great pizza. The chain pizzas just do not compare to the independently owned shops. We have an amazing food heritage in the valley.

Ha, that's my picture of the pizza at the Elmton that I ordered in 2015. Those are my Mom's hands as she was sitting across from me. She ordered the broasted chicken.

Wedgewood is my favorite. Briar Hill was home to the Welsh first before the Italians moved in. Just a common misconception.

THE BRIER HILL COMMUNITY WAS NAMED AFTER THE BRIER HILL AGRICULTURAL GARDENS WHICH COVERED THE HILL SIDE WHICH WAS OWNED BY IRON AND COAL INDUSTRIALIST GEORGE TOD , THE BRIER HILL PLANT WAS NAMED BY STEEL INDUSTRIALIST GEORGE DENNICK WICK WHO WAS THE PRESIDENT OF THE YOUNGSTOWN SHEET AND TUBE COMPANY . I've lived alot of places and still havent found better pizza than Home. Wedgewood or uptown are our 1st stops when we come. Belleria hasn't been the same since it was on the bottom of the Northside. Still pretty good tho just a lil pricey now.
