Could we start seeing more people getting Amazon deliveries straight to their door in Jamaica? Amazon has started rolling out one stop shop and delivery for Jamaicans!
Everything can be done right in the app, even customs fees and your delivery is done by DHL, without the need for a freight forwarding company.
Do you think people will use this service instead of the freight forwarders?

I was trying to convince them a while back to join with me on that venture of operating one of their fulfillment hub here in Jamaica but it will take time to get to that decision as I told them that I would need their marked vehicles to support delivery. I'm still waiting with a listing ear

Even if they build warehouses; they use robots instead of humans (job losses) to do the work. I work for a construction company and Amazon is one of our customers. Imagine 700 robots instead of humans.

    • @tevinking8931

@mikelee9516 You're right about Amazon hiring a robot to do the label work as I live in California, and they are laying off people from last year and even now. It's up to the government to lay down the ground work and impose a maximum human work force of 300-500 people depending on the size of the facility.

I've gotten the option several times & I'm not in Kingston. But I've always declined it because I wasn't sure about the shipping cost. It will become a threat where I'm concerned because the local shipping companies are taking longer & longer to deliver & now that I've heard Amazon's local delivery time I'll have to seriously consider them now.

Amazon has been delivering items straight to Jamaica for sometime now. This is old news. The only difference is that they do not deliver all items but you will see a note on each item showing delivery to Jamaica and the item choices are many. If you see an item that cannot be shipped straight, then you can use a Courier.

  • @HyggeJourney

Amazon don't shout loud about what they do. They just do.
It's not about where in Jamaica you are... DHL don't care. They deliver islandwide.
However, it's more likely to be depending on what warehouse it's coming from.. Lets say they have no other parcels that day, they might send it directly. If you order an expensive item, this might also be a reason.
But nice to see the speed is picking up :)

I'm in Trinidad and our problem isn't the courier service. It's customs. The service I use, CSF, they have updates to where your package is whether it is in Miami, in transit or otherwise. For most of the time, delivery was fast. Faster that some local deliveries here. lol. But at some point things began to stick in customs. I suppose the business is too big and it isn't like the government is going to increase overhead (and overtime) to cope with the demand. So long as my stuff doesn't get lost and I can see where it is I have no problem. And I don't see how shipping with DHL will make it faster since items going through them has to go through customs too.
And this isn't really competing against Amazon. More like competing with DHL. We have to remember that not everyone in the world has courier services set up like we do. So international shipping via DHL has in fact existed for some time on Amazon. It is possible that DHL is trying to get more of the market share. We don't know if there are any agreements with Amazon to push their services. So there's that.
btw - aren't there Jamaicans working at the local offices of DHL?

If they can cut down the shipping time then this will be an issue for Jamaican couriers, most couriers will get your goods to you in a week and little.
