Its interesting that one of your points was based on gender. I've been a logistician for almost 12 years and I've worked with plenty of excellent female logisticians and transporters. The ones that move up are the ones that want to move up. I worked with one woman who had been in the industry for over 30 years, but she refused any sort of supervisory position. She was happy with her workload and with how much she was making, and I see nothing wrong with that. I worked with another woman, though, that took a demotion to secure a different position that would ensure long term upward mobility. I'm sure your demographic statistics are correct, but just wanted to share my experience.

They somehow entirely failed to acknowledge the MASSIVE railroad industry, save for a few stock video clips in the background. I realized not all parts of the world rely heavily on freight rail, but here in North America it's the reason that our highways aren't just a continuous traffic jam of semi trucks, and Europe would benefit MASSIVELY if the different countries would actually work together to build a cargo rail network that isn't an embarrassing afterthought. All in all though, this is just click-bait fluff that anyone could have found in 15 minutes on Google.

UPS and FedEx have major contracts with USPS. Second: there isnt discrimination against women in this industry. They prefer to be in offices. Truck driving is not a glamorous field at all. You're hauling product that you are responsible for. You drive for hours. (11 hours driving and 14 hours on duty regulated by the FMCSA). Its very physical. Dropping trailers, adjusting axles to be at legal weight limits. Securement. Driving in dangerous and tight areas with height and length restrictions. This is a skill. A few autonomous developers stopped pursuing autonomization with trucks because of the liability You forgot to mention trains also transport goods as well. They are limited to what they can carry. Mostly dry goods. No produce, hazardous or specialized. Only specialized equipment can carry overheight/over weight/oversize. As well as, temperature controlled. Freight Brokers do not lease. They are freight forwarders that need a bond of $75K to broker freight. They are like telemarketers. They cold call manufacturers, buyers and warehouses to locate trucks to move their freight. Brokers and Agents are the middleman. The broker tells the agent what to sell the freight for (i.e. $5,000 broker tells agent to sell for 40% profit ($2,000 net)). Warehouses are big money. Especially temperature control and frozen storage(food/drugs). You can charge per square foot per day/week/month/year. I networked with a person who has a 100,000 sq foot warehouse and charges $5 per sq foot per day. And to avoid no payment, he has a factoring company to back him. If they dont pay, the factoring company pays it and he wholesales the product and splits it with the factoring company. There are billions to be made, but you'll need more than data to learn this industry. Cheers.

this is really a dangerous article as it is so flawed and wrong as to be dangerous to anyone looking at this industry, where to start and finish. The comment that amazon and ali baba have 'perfected' shipping, is so flawed, the new technologies and change in documentary requirements mean that this is constantly changing and they make a lot of mistakes, but these are generally hidden and/or blamed on others. The best advise they should give is to speak to experts in shipping, consultants, and not build this themselves. This is true macro economics and not for the faint hearted.

In an industry that requires actual entry lvl experience, any chick can join but very few want to work the foundational work. Most men dont either, that's y we get paid well. We would love more women, they smell better.
