  • Bonjour!
    I went on a road trip to the south west of France last week and my first stop is with a dear friend in the Aveyron. Her house is hidden in a valley and it's a little piece of paradise!
    It was so good to spend some time together, chill and enjoy the sound of the river.

    Oh my gosh what an amazing episode !! Your friends home is a trip back in time ! I have a cat just like the fluffer that met you on the way in and he is equally as much a “mojito cat = hi !, come on in and have a mojito !”
    Maybe it is the depressed side of me … but every time I travel to or see parts of France I envision the German occupation and how horrible it must of been to have those dark forces invade their beautiful home . Maybe I watched too many movies . But it breaks my heart.

    I'm glad you enjoy the accent of the Midi--a reminder of France's former linguistic diversity. The regional accents and regional languages seem to be disappearing. One finds a surprising contempt among some people for these regional accents. The politician Jean-Luc Mélanchon was filmed demeaning a reporter with un accent méridional and telling him he would only answer a question if the reporter reposed it in "proper French."

    • @FrenchCountryLife
      @FrenchCountryLife  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Noooo! Did he really? 😳 It’s the langue d’oc in the south and langue d’oil in the northern parts that were historically distinguished.
      I like to respect history and historic facts and mostly local differences and traditions, I think it brings diversity to a culture!

    • @FrenchCountryLife
      @FrenchCountryLife  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think France still is very diverse linguistically. We have the basque which is a unique language and many accents and patois. It’s not always easy to understand all the nuances of the French spoken in all the regions but I appreciate the richness of the language it brings. Although it took me a while to understand some very new words (to me at least) in the patois of Burgundy where we live! Fortunately my neighbors are very patient and friendly in explaining things to me! For example here they say “les ch’tis”, which I know as a word to refer to “les gens du Nord” but here it means the kids/boys, and le “ch’tites” is the girls kids. Would have never guessed that!

    • @markclemens3409
      @markclemens3409 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@FrenchCountryLife I hope Basque is holding its own. Je m'en réjouis. The French government makes available a certain amount of funding for broadcasting and instruction in the recognized regional languages like Breton, Basque and Alsatian. One gets the impression neither Occitan nor Arpitan is doing too well. And the other sub-languages or patois of the Langue d'Oil, such as Lorrain and Gallo, are dead as a doornail from what I can tell.
