For me he was like the Jimi Hendrix of the football world. Passionate, wild, vibrant, and done things that nobody did and still can't do. He sparked a flame in me so deep when I was a small child watching the 1986 World Cup on live TV from my parents lounge room. He was my childhood hero and inspiration. I spent countless hours watching and studying his every move on the pitch. I wanted to be like him on the pitch when I played. He was poetry in motion. He was mind, body and spirit in perfect coordination when he had the ball at his feet. A commander. A general. A leader. A player with unparalleled vision as well. He got kicked and got back up, often times stumbling on his short legs and keeping balance. He was cheeky. He was a cheat. He was deeply flawed and pained. He was like a small boy who refused to grow up. Playful. He suffered and we all suffered with him when he got banned from the World Cup in 1994. He represented the roller coaster ride of life and we all went along for the ride. It has been a beautiful ride. Thank you Diego Armando Maradona. Seeing your creative genius is what makes life worthwhile to me. On a deeper level it reminds me of the miracle of life and the beauty in it and in all of us. I will never forget how much joy you brought to my life. You represent what should never be eradicated in this world. In us. Our humanity. Our vulnerability and genius, whatever that is. Hard work is a prerequisite but not enough. I am sure there are millions more who had the same story, worked equally hard or even harder but still didn't make it. We all like the grass to grace story and happy to jump on the band wagon. As my late cousin once sad, "failure has no relative, success is related to everyone"! Once you succeed, with an element of luck or timing, everyone tells your story. But there are many more who work hard but just miss that element of luck to breakthrough!

He really cared for people, for the others. Nobody is perfect, but he was genuine, in good and bad. He moved so many, always, and that's not by chance.
