Katie P. - AA Speaker - "Living the Solution Daily"

  • One of my favorite speakers, and people in general, Katie P. shares her experience in recovery and how she became involved in the Program, and not just the fellowship. Her story really highlights the point that the cessation of our drinking is only the beginning. She has a wonderful energy and enthusiasm!
    I had the pleasure of meeting her and her husband Charlie a few years ago and they were absolutely delightful. After an incredibly long day of speaking and workshops, they were heading out of the hotel at about 10:30 or so. I stopped to thank them real quick and they talked to me for about 15 minutes even though they were tired and worn-out from a long day. They were SO warm and caring even under a great amount of fatigue! Such wonderful examples of living the program and incorporating it in to every aspect of their lives! Thank you so much Katie and Charlie!
    You can hear the workshop she refers to in the tape with Charlie P., Katie, and Chris R. here: • Chris R., Charlie and ...
    From the book Alcoholics Anonymous: "In spite of the great increase in the size and span of this Fellowship, at its core it remains simple and personal. Each day, somewhere in the world, recovery begins when one alcoholic talks with another alcoholic, sharing experience, strength, and hope."
    What is the Twelve Step Model? How is it a "treatment for alcoholism" or "alcohol abuse?"
    From Wikipedia: "A twelve-step program is a set of guiding principles (accepted by members as 'spiritual principles,' based on the approved literature) outlining a course of action for recovery from addiction, compulsion, or other behavioral problems. Originally proposed by Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) as a method of recovery from alcoholism, the Twelve Steps were first published in the book Alcoholics Anonymous: The Story of How More Than One Hundred Men Have Recovered from Alcoholism in 1939. The method was then adapted and became the foundation of other twelve-step programs. Twelve-step methods have been adopted to address a wide range of substance-abuse and dependency problems."
    You can find out more at: www.aa.org - Alcoholics Anonymous Official Site (And as should be blatantly obvious, we are in no way affiliated with them or any other 12 step program. We are just looking to provide hope to those suffering from alcoholism or addiction.)
    "Addiction treatment" WORKS! There is addiction help out there and "addiction recovery" is possible. If you are battling "alcohol addiction" there are people who know EXACTLY what it is like!
    It is important to note there are several ways for one to address his or her "alcohol abuse treatment." "Substance abuse" is a very serious condition. Many need inpatient stays or counseling. The importance and purpose of this video, and all our other videos, is to show that recovery IS possible and to give hope to those who are struggling with substance abuse issues. Help IS out there! :)
    From the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous: "Abandon yourself to God as you understand God. Admit your faults to Him and to your fellows. Clear away the wreckage of your past. Give freely of what you find and join us. We shall be with you in the Fellowship of the Spirit, and you will surely meet some of us as you trudge the Road of Happy Destiny."

    Thank you Katie!!! I did the Jesus and Church thing without AA and guess what? I am back in AA! I am still a Christian and still go to church, but without AA I am still restless, irritable and discontent! I believe God has brought me back to AA and I thank Him for it daily. God bless you and thank you again!!!

    I hope you see this Katie P! Thank you!! Thank you! I have been sober 5 years and I have worked the steps a few times and this year has been hard, very hard. One of my good friend took her life and she was an alcoholic too. Then I started wondering about other 12 step programs and I started reading self help books... everything but the freaking big book! Today god guided me to this recording. Like I dont even use youtube for AA speakers, but for some reason (cough cough, nothing happens by mistake) I went on youtube googled AA speakers and you were the first female speaker on my screen so I clicked and yea wow. Talk about a great smack in the head I needed so bad!! Thank you!!

    Thank you Katie! Oh how I can identify with your story. Being abstinent without the Fellowship is just not good. Haven't attended a meeting in a year. Picking and choosing what I want to keep me sober doesn't cut it any more. Despite my almost 15 years of sobriety, my sense of entitlement is still huge. Your message just re-awakened so many humbling thoughts. Bless you and your journey!

    "Recovered alcoholic". So important! I've been sober since October 9, 1979. I considered myself a student of the Big Book from the beginning. I missed the recovered part for over 20 years! The book says AA #3 not only recovered he "recovered immediately"!

    The reason kids have to have their own rooms now is because we realize now how much fooling around happens in the bedroom between siblings. It's absolutely crazy how often it happens, even at very young ages.. like between 5 and 8 years old. So yes.. kids need their own rooms.

    I could relate to everything she said. I just wish she would lay off the sarcastic Jesus stuff. I am a Christian and I love AA. I believe that Jesus is God and if you read the history of Alcoholics Anonymous you'll find that Bill and Dr. Bob did too. Maybe she just didn't find the real Jesus.

    If you read the history of AA, the true AA, you will see that it is founded on Christian principals and Bill and Bob were Christians. Another nickname of AA was, "The James Group," after the James book of the bible. Please do not bash Jesus Christ, who is God. I'm an AA, but first and foremost a Christian. If I could not reconcile my faith with the AA program, I wouldn't even think of AA as a solution. AA is a spiritual kindergarten, as the literature says, and not an end in itself. Let's be careful to not make AA a religion, which it is not. Let's be open minded and respectful. Meet the true Jesus, not the Religiosity image, then you will know.

      @lucass9328 ปีที่แล้ว

      AA is not bound to one religion or another, that's what makes it work, it's specifically designed to be non-religious. Going around trying to proselytize other alcoholics seems to me to be misguided and ungrounded.
